01:13That's because those stars are millions and millions of miles away.

01:33Why is the sun called a star and the earth a planet?
01:39Every star is a huge ball of burning gases giving off heat and light.
01:47Planets are round ball shaped bodies but they do not have any light of their own.

05:43When seen from the earth, there are certain groups of stars forming recognizable patterns or figures called constellations.
05:57If you look towards the north sky on a clear night,
06:02you can see seven stars making a pattern called the Big Dipper or Ursa Major, Latin Great Bear.
06:16This is also called the Saptarishi.
06:23The brightest star in the northern sky, the Polaris or Dhruvtara,
06:31is a part of the constellation Ursa Minor, Latin Little Bear.
06:39Some other constellations are Leo, Orion and Centaurus.
06:52THE SOLAR SYSTEM
06:55A solar system comprises planets, satellites, dwarf planets or planetoids, asteroids, comets and meteors.
07:11The Milky Way galaxy contains our solar system.
07:20The sun with all the heavenly bodies that revolve around it form the solar system.
07:32Eight planets namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune revolve around the sun.

08:05Planets are heavenly bodies that revolve around a star,
08:11for example, sun in their own particular path called the orbit.

08:41Of the eight planets that revolve around the sun, Mercury is the closest to the sun.

13:58Sometimes we see a burning object falling from the sky.
14:05These are called meteors.
14:10They are smaller parts of asteroids and comets that enter the Earth's atmosphere and burn.
14:22They are known as shooting stars.
14:27Sometimes meteors do not burn up completely and are called meteorites.
14:37These meteorites strike the surface of the Earth, creating craters.
