Alleged manslaughter victim died after intervening in 'altercation' in Parafield Gardens street, police say

A 65-year-old man has been killed when he allegedly became involved in a dispute between two people in Adelaide's northern suburbs. Police have charged a 29-year-old man with manslaughter over the death. He's been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance.

00:08Two guys were running from here to there, towards the home and then we saw shouting
00:16out there, someone was screaming and all that stuff.
00:21The incident took place on Chester Street around 10pm on Thursday.
00:25Paramedics arrived to find a 65-year-old man collapsed on the street.
00:29A neighbour had rushed to his aid.
00:31The lady was giving CPR to him as well and then an ambulance guy came, the nurses and
00:36all that, they were also giving CPR as well, but the person was not saying anything.
00:43I thought this was quite a quiet sort of neighbourhood, but there you go.
00:47The victim died at the scene.
00:49A 29-year-old Gilberton man was taken to hospital and later charged with manslaughter.
00:54I understand there were several parties involved in terms of breaking up the disturbance and
00:59that is still subject to the investigation, we're still putting that together, it's quite
01:02complex at the moment.
01:04Police believe the victim and the accused were not known to each other.
01:08The initial incident involved the accused and another person.
01:13There are charges that will arise from that and the gentleman who has deceased was involved
01:20in terms of being a third party to the incident.
01:23The accused appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court.
01:26He didn't apply for bail and has been remanded in custody to face court again in a week's
01:30time.
01:31Witnesses to the incident are being urged to come forward.
