00:00Caught in United Kingdom, UK has sent four Nigerian nationals to 13 years imprisonment
00:06for establishing a fake Nigeria customary court where they issued over 2,000 fake marriage
00:11certificates to people to facilitate immigration processes in the United Kingdom.
00:17The Woolwich Crown Court passed the sentences during the week after the four Nigerians were
00:22found guilty over their involvement in the operation of issuing a large-scale fake marriage
00:27certificates to facilitate illegal immigration in the United Kingdom.
00:32Emrahang Alade Olarutimi Onifade, Abayowi Aderiswe Shodipo, Nosimot Mojisola Gadamosi,
00:39and Adekunde Kabi were found guilty of conspiracy to facilitate illegal entry into the UK and
00:45providing false documentation. They were sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court in London.
00:51An investigation by the Home Office and Lagos authorities revealed that the group had created
00:57false Nigerian customary marriage certificates and other documents to support fraudulent EU
01:02settlement scheme applications between 2019 and 2023, according to local media reports.
01:09Home Office Chief Immigration Officer Paul Moran held the convictions as a warning to gangs
01:15exploiting vulnerable individuals for financial gain. He emphasized the agency's commitment to
01:22securing borders and combating immigration fraud. According to a UK news platform,
01:28Evening Standard, Emrahang Alade Olarutimi Onifade, 41, Abayowi Aderiswe Shodipo, 38,
01:37Nosimot Mojisola Gadamosi, 31, and Adekunde Kabi, 54, meant fraudulent EU settlement scheme
01:46applications for Nigerian nationals between March 2019 and May last year, the Home Office said.
01:53The organized crime group provided false Nigerian customary marriage certificates and
01:58other fraudulent documentation to support the applications of the nationals to help them remain
02:03in the country. A Home Office investigation both domestically and with its international
02:09operations based in Lagos, Nigeria uncovered more than 2,000 false marriage documents.
02:16Onifade and Shodipo were both found guilty of conspiracy to facilitate illegal entry into the
02:22UK and conspiracy to provide articles used in fraud following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court,
02:28the Home Office said. Gadamosi was convicted of obtaining leave to remain by deception and
02:34fraud by false representation, while Kabi was found guilty of possession of an identity document
02:40with improper intention but was cleared of obtaining leave to remain by deception.
02:45Onifade, from Gravesend, was sentenced to six years imprisonment and Shodipo,
02:51from Manchester, was jailed for five years at the same court on Tuesday.
02:57Gadamosi, from Bolton, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment while Kabi, from London,
03:04was jailed for nine months. Home Office Chief Immigration Officer Paul Moran said,
03:10this group was absolutely prolific in their desire to abuse our borders and have rightly
03:16been brought to justice. As with many gangs we encounter, their sole priority was financial gain.
03:23I am delighted that my team was able to intercept their operation, and I hope these convictions
03:29will serve as a warning to unscrupulous gangs who exploit people's desperation to remain in
03:35the UK. We will continue to work tirelessly to secure our borders and clamp down on the
03:41gangs who prey on vulnerable people to make money.
