Project UFO - 1x03 - The Fremont Incident

A police officer is ridiculed after claiming to see a strange alien craft and two astronaut-type figures. Based on the real-life Lonnie Zamora incident. Gatlin and Fitz investigate sightings by Robert Lee Armstrong and Henry Marsden. Marsden reports that the air force tried to shoot down a UFO and he has evidence that fell through the roof of his barn.

00:00Ezekiel saw the wheel. This is the wheel he said he saw. These are unidentified flying
00:25objects that people say they are seeing now. Are they proof that we are being visited
00:31by civilizations from other stars? Or just what are they? The United States Air Force
00:39began an investigation of this high strangeness in a search for the truth. What you are about
00:45to see is part of that 20 year search.
01:45I hear him! I'll check it out! Right!
02:15What do you make of it? I've never seen anything like that!
02:45I hear him!
03:15I hear him!
03:37When I was interviewed for this job, I was told it would be interesting and exciting.
03:42Something new happening all the time. What they didn't tell me was that it would always
03:46happen in the middle of the night.
03:48Libby, if it weren't for this job, you'd just be home asleep in a nice warm bed.
03:54When did this come in?
03:562240, from the FBI field office in Reno.
04:01Fremont, Nevada, 70 miles southeast of Reno.
04:04Any confirms?
04:05Yes and no.
04:07The original sighting was 10 miles southwest of Fremont.
04:11The only confirm, if that's what it is, was in Fremont 20 minutes later.
04:16A gas station attendant named Frank Marco reported that he saw three large
04:20circular objects moving across the sky towards the northeast.
04:25But we can't be sure if there's any connection.
04:27Right.
04:28This may have some connection though. The phone call I received right before you got here?
04:32The police chief in Carson City. A citizen reported a piece of a flying saucer
04:36crashed through his roof. The man said he saw three objects moving
04:40through the sky right before the thing crashed through his roof.
04:44Carson City's in a direct line with the other two sightings.
04:46All right, let's take the first one. Who was the witness?
04:48Robert Lee Armstrong, 36 years old, married, two children.
04:52Member of the Fremont Police Department for seven years.
04:55An excellent record. A reliable, no-nonsense policeman.
04:59He saw some kind of alien beings? That's what the man said.
05:03I tried to get a T-39 for the morning, but they were all scheduled.
05:06So I got you two tickets to Reno and Mid-America Airlines,
05:09and ordered transportation out of Stitt.
05:11If we leave tonight, we can get there, catch a few hours sleep,
05:13and be at the site first thing tomorrow morning.
05:15Libby, get three tickets for tonight.
05:18Three?
05:19Yeah, you're going with us.
05:20I have a feeling we're going to need all the help we can get on this one.
05:22You want to go home and put some things in a bag?
05:24Well, who's going to feed my kitty? He's too small to feed himself.
05:28Hire a cat sitter.
05:30Is this in my contract?
05:32I didn't know you had one, sugar.
05:33I don't. Maybe that's my problem.
05:46I don't know why you guys don't take this suite and let me take a single room.
05:49We can use this as an office.
05:53What is that?
05:56That is hungry. I better get him some milk.
05:59You mean you smuggled him on the plane?
06:01You smuggle contraband. That, he's not.
06:05All right, Harry.
06:06Let's head to the police station and see if we can find Robert Lee Armstrong.
06:09At this time of the morning?
06:11He either be at home asleep or on duty.
06:13Right. But we're not going to find that out sitting around here, are we?
06:17What happened to that few hours sleep we were going to get?
06:19You still get that in. It's only 2 a.m.
06:21That's local time. My eyelids are still on Eastern time.
06:24I'm surprised for you, Sergeant.
06:25Don't you know that too much sleep dulls the senses?
06:27I reckon it does.
06:28Just on this job, I've never been in a position to find out.
06:42Can I help you, gentlemen?
06:43This is Harry Fitz. I'm Gatlin, Project Blue Boat.
06:46Oh, you're here about the flying saucer.
06:48Yes, sir.
06:50Robert Lee sure put his foot in it this time.
06:53How's that?
06:54Those little green men from Mars.
06:56If you ask me, Robert Lee's been pulling on the bottle a little bit.
06:59Armstrong have a drinking problem?
07:01I'm Chief Gaffey.
07:02Anything you want to know about Armstrong, you ask me, Major.
07:06Fair enough.
07:07Let's start with the question I just asked.
07:09The answer is no, emphatically.
07:11Armstrong doesn't drink.
07:13And let's get something else straight, Major.
07:15I don't want anyone coming in here.
07:17The FBI, the Air Force, the press.
07:19Anyone.
07:20Trying to make Robert Lee into some kind of fool.
07:22Sir, we came out here to investigate a report of a UFO.
07:25We're not here to build up or tear down anybody's character.
07:30Want some coffee?
07:33Yes, sir.
07:34You sure could use it.
07:38You work this late all the time, Chief?
07:40Oh, this place has been a madhouse tonight.
07:42Haven't got any work done.
07:44Those newspaper men have been all over me like a case of hives.
07:47We know you're tired, but there are a couple of questions we'd like to ask you.
07:51Has the sighting area been secured?
07:54Has the sighting area been secured?
07:56The FBI and the National Guard has the whole area roped off.
07:59They told us to keep it secured until you boys got here.
08:01Just one more thing.
08:02Tell us about Robert Lee Armstrong.
08:04Well, Robert Lee joined the department seven years ago.
08:08First black man on the force.
08:10Matter of fact, he's still the only one.
08:13We both had to overcome a lot of small-town bigotry.
08:16I don't mind telling you I took a lot of heat when I hired him.
08:19I'll tell you something else.
08:20I've never regretted it.
08:21He's a good man, Major.
08:22One of the best we've got.
08:23He's honest, dedicated, good family man.
08:26Total professional.
08:27Can you tell us where he lives?
08:29Well, he's out on patrol in the North Sector.
08:31Jacob called in sick tonight and Robert Lee took a double shift.
08:35McGrath, write down Robert Lee's address for the Major.
08:39That'll be all in about eight.
08:40We hurry, Major.
08:41We sneak in about four hours sleep.
08:44Thank you very much for your time, sir.
08:46One more thing.
08:48How does Armstrong get along with the townspeople?
08:50You mean, was someone playing a practical joke on him?
08:53Something like that.
08:54Well, it's possible, Major.
08:55But if that's true, I'll tell you this.
08:57Someone went to an awful lot of trouble.
08:59Thank you very much.
09:00Well, it's possible, Major.
09:01But if that's true, I'll tell you this.
09:03Someone went to an awful lot of trouble.
09:05Thank you very much.
09:30Come on.
09:31You're not still tired?
09:32No, sir.
09:33Three hours of uninterrupted sleep?
09:35How could I be, sir?
09:38Mrs. Armstrong?
09:39Yes?
09:40This is Sergeant Harry Fitz.
09:41I'm Jake Gatlin.
09:42We're with Project Blue Book.
09:44Is your husband home?
09:45This is about the UFO he reported?
09:47Yes, ma'am.
09:49He should be back any minute.
09:51Would you like to come in?
10:00Would you like some coffee?
10:02Yes, ma'am.
10:03I sure appreciate it.
10:04Major?
10:05Yes, please.
10:07I wonder...
10:09Would you like some grits, Sergeant?
10:11Grits?
10:12My mother sends them to me from Alabama.
10:14Ma'am, I haven't had any real grits since I was back home.
10:17Where's that, Sergeant?
10:18Six miles South Carolina, ma'am.
10:20Northern part of the state.
10:21It'll only take a minute.
10:22Please, sit down.
10:24Uh, ma'am?
10:25Yes?
10:26Would it be asking too much to drop a boiled egg in them?
10:29I had that in mind.
10:33If you'd have gotten up a half hour earlier, you could have had breakfast with me.
10:37No offense, Major, but the way it turned out, I'm glad I waited.
10:43Mama! Mama!
10:45David, what happened?
10:47I had to fight Mama.
10:49They said Daddy was crazy.
10:51That he's seeing things.
10:53That's all right, David.
10:55Come on, let's get cleaned up.
10:57Is that what you think too?
10:59No.
11:03I'm crazy?
11:04Seeing things?
11:06Maybe I was just plain drunk?
11:09No, Mr. Armstrong, we don't think any of those things.
11:12Harry Fitz, I'm Jake Gatlin.
11:16You reported seeing a UFO.
11:18We're here to investigate the sighting.
11:20You read the report?
11:22Stranger, huh?
11:24I've heard stranger.
11:25I don't think anybody believes me.
11:26People are starting to look at me like I'm crazy.
11:29Our job is to determine exactly what it was you did see.
11:32What you mean is I didn't see a flying saucer?
11:34You were there, we weren't.
11:36And we're not here to pin a tail on you.
11:38We're not here to prove you didn't see something.
11:40We're here to prove you did.
11:42But we're going to need some hard evidence.
11:44Okay.
11:46What do you need?
11:48Can we take a little walk, Mr. Armstrong?
11:50Bob.
11:56What did you see?
11:58Well, when I first saw what looked like an explosion...
12:07I was sure it was the dynamite shack.
12:10But when I got there, everything was okay.
12:13And for some reason, my bike motor quit.
12:20And then I saw a greenish-blue light coming from down in the gutter.
12:26I couldn't get my bike motor to kick over, so I...
12:29I took off on foot.
12:56Oh, my God.
13:26Oh, my God.
13:28Oh, my God.
13:30Oh, my God.
13:32Oh, my God.
13:34Oh, my God.
13:36Oh, my God.
13:38Oh, my God.
13:40Oh, my God.
13:42Oh, my God.
13:44Oh, my God.
13:46Oh, my God.
13:48Oh, my God.
13:50Oh, my God.
13:52Oh, my God.
13:54Oh, my God.
13:56What did you do then?
13:58I guess I just laid there behind that bush for a few minutes.
14:03Dear God, I...
14:05I just never saw anything like that.
14:07I was still scared.
14:09I thought maybe that thing would come back.
14:11I didn't want to be there alone if it did.
14:13I didn't know if my radio would work or not.
14:16But I tried.
14:19Sam.
14:21This is Robert Lee, Sam. Do you read me?
14:23Come in, Sam. I need help.
14:24Yeah, go ahead, Robert Lee.
14:26Sam.
14:28Get over here by the dynamite shed.
14:30Quick.
14:31What is it? What's the problem?
14:32Just get here quick, Sam.
14:34I'm on my way.
14:43Here's your driver's license.
14:44Here's your driver's license.
14:52No ticket.
15:02We notified Stead Air Force Base and the FBI.
15:05They told us they'd be out to secure the area as soon as possible.
15:09The location was some 48 miles out in the desert.
15:12It got dark.
15:14Sam and I took one last look at the site.
15:17Look at this, Sam.
15:20How many of those things do you make out?
15:24Three of them, I think.
15:31Look at the snakeweed.
15:33Do you know how hot a fire has to be to burn green snakeweed?
15:39Something was here, Robert Lee.
15:40That's for sure.
15:42Aside from the burning snakeweed and the imprints, did you see anything else?
15:49We didn't go any closer than we had to.
15:52We didn't want to backtrack over any other possible physical evidence.
15:55Now, what I've told you is the truth, I swear it.
15:57You can check with my partner, Sam.
15:59All right, Bob.
16:01We're gonna go out to the site now.
16:03We'll let you know what we find.
16:05I'm going with you.
16:07But in a long night, Bob.
16:08You gotta be bushed.
16:10You don't think I can risk with this hanging over my head, do you?
16:38Okay, Major, it's all yours.
17:08Hey, Armstrong.
17:10What did the little Marshals tell you?
17:12They're probably looking for a gas station.
17:15They give you a ride in your flying saucer, Robert Lee?
17:19I don't think so.
17:21I don't think so.
17:23I don't think so.
17:25I don't think so.
17:27I don't think so.
17:29I don't think so.
17:31I don't think so.
17:32I don't think so.
17:34I don't think so.
17:36I don't think so.
17:38I don't think so.
17:40Let's finish this up and get him out of here.
17:42Right.
17:43Armstrong with a black or white?
17:45Are you kidding?
17:46They were green.
17:50Let's go.
17:52Bob, you reckon your wife kept those grits warm?
17:55I don't mind telling you.
17:56I'm starving.
18:01You know, she said she'd drop a boiled egg in them.
18:04She's from Alabama.
18:05Only thought they did that in South Carolina.
18:15Good morning.
18:17Morning.
18:18Hi, Libby.
18:20You look like you slept good.
18:22I did.
18:23Here's something that should wake you up.
18:25Mr. Henry Marsden.
18:27The gentleman whose house was hit by a piece of flying saucer.
18:30It seems his lawyer has called General Danville at Wright-Patterson Demand.
18:33Demanding to know what action the Air Force is going to take.
18:36Like who's going to pay for the damages.
18:38Naturally, the General called here and...
18:40And we're to proceed to Carson City as soon as possible.
18:43Right.
18:44Here's the address.
18:46Libby, your efficiency is underwhelming.
18:48Here are the interviews with Armstrong and his partner, Sam Carver.
18:50Can you type them up, please?
18:51Sure.
18:53Come on, Sergeant.
18:54We're on our way.
18:56I'm going to stop off at that gas station and interview that attendant first.
18:58Then we'll drive over to Carson City.
19:00Didn't slavery end in 1863?
19:01It did for me.
19:03Sort of.
19:04Tell you what I'll do.
19:06After we leave the gas station, I'll drive and you can sleep.
19:08Hey, John, I think I forgot how.
19:10Ah, most excitement we've had around here since the gasoline truck blew up over on the interstate.
19:15Could you describe exactly what you saw last night, Mr. Marco?
19:18Well, there were two big round lights going through the sky right up there.
19:22Did he say three?
19:24You said he, Mr. Marco.
19:26Oh, yeah, the salesman.
19:28Well, he was the one who actually saw it.
19:29I was inside writing up the ticket.
19:31But he told me all about it.
19:33Do you know the name of this salesman?
19:35No, I never saw him before, but I remember he had an out-of-state license.
19:39Utah, I think.
19:41Did he pay by cash or credit card?
19:43Credit card.
19:44That's what I was writing.
19:46Do you mind going through your tickets for yesterday?
19:48It's really important we find this man.
19:50Yeah, sure.
19:51Why don't you take a minute?
19:52Come on.
19:59Yeah, here it is.
20:01Utah, I told you.
20:03Albert Parker, license number V-U-C-5-3-2.
20:07Could I use your phone, please?
20:09That's against company rules.
20:11Payphone's right around the corner.
20:13Government telephone credit card.
20:15Is that a fact?
20:17Well, I guess in that case it'd be okay.
20:19I'll call Libby and have her check this out.
20:21Telephone credit card.
20:24No wonder our taxes keep going up.
20:25No wonder our taxes keep going up.
20:45Mr. Marsden?
20:46That's right.
20:47Your Air Force, Blue Book.
20:49See the damage it did?
20:51Yes, sir.
20:53Come on in.
20:59In the den, gentlemen.
21:05This is Mrs. Marsden and my attorney, Milton Short.
21:08I'm Gatlin. This is Sergeant Fitz.
21:10How do you do?
21:11Well, Major, the Air Force seems to have a problem.
21:13Mr. Marsden, do you think you could tell us what happened here last night?
21:18I was coming home from work.
21:20It was about 6.30, I think.
21:21I looked in the garden for the evening paper.
21:24The boy hasn't hit the porch in six months.
21:43I ran into the house and found my wife lying on the floor in terrible pain.
21:48Yeah, Major, it's our contention.
21:51That the Air Force, without provocation, attacked a UFO, blew it up.
21:56Thereby causing a fragment to crash into the Marsden house.
21:59Now, at the time,
22:01Mrs. Marsden was standing on a stool hanging a picture.
22:05Shocked by the noise, she fell off.
22:07Severely injuring the third cervical vertebrae in her neck.
22:10Now, we hold that the Air Force,
22:13acting in an irresponsible manner,
22:15with complete disregard for the safety of its citizens,
22:18is solely responsible for this tragedy.
22:19Therefore,
22:21we intend to bring suit in federal court
22:24against the United States Air Force
22:26for $1 million for personal injury,
22:28mental anguish and property damage.
22:30That's a very interesting hypothesis, Mr. Short.
22:33Well, we're aware of the Air Force's efforts
22:35to cover up all UFO incidents.
22:37We feel a lawsuit can serve the purpose
22:39of casting some very bright light
22:41into some very dark corners.
22:43Sir, I wonder if we could have a look
22:45at that object that fell through your roof.
22:47Henry, why don't you show it to them?
22:49Sure.
22:55Well, as you can see, Major,
22:57an object of this size and weight
22:59falling from such a great height
23:01could easily have killed someone.
23:03Tell them about the writing.
23:05Oh, yes, yes.
23:07There on the polished side,
23:09those hieroglyphics,
23:11they're either an alien language
23:13or a map of the universe.
23:15Either way, unquestionably from another world.
23:17Can we take this with us?
23:19We would like to have it back
23:21and we would like a signed receipt.
23:23Yes, sir, you've got it.
23:32Anything on that salesman
23:34that guy at the gas station told us about?
23:36What was his name?
23:38Albert Harker?
23:39Right here.
23:40DMV came through for us.
23:42He lives in Salt Lake City.
23:44Here's his address.
23:45We'll fly up there tonight.
23:47You sure you wouldn't rather go
23:48and finish up there tonight
23:49and sleep in in the morning?
23:51Well, on that basis, I'll go with you.
23:53Actually, I would anyway.
23:55Let me check with local base operations
23:57and get a rundown on all military air traffic
23:59that was in this vicinity last night.
24:01Okay.
24:02I'll check with you in the morning.
24:04Cap's got the right idea.
24:18I'd like to help you, gentlemen,
24:20but I've never been to Fremont, Nevada.
24:22I haven't even been out of town
24:23this whole week.
24:25Then how do you explain
24:26your car being in Fremont last night?
24:28It was simple.
24:29It was stolen.
24:31Along with my wallet
24:32and all my credit cards.
24:33I notified the police yesterday.
24:35I see.
24:36That's only the downside.
24:38The upside is they caught the guy.
24:40He's in the county jail right now.
24:42Name's Maynard Timmons.
24:43Name's Maynard Timmons.
24:53Evening, gents.
24:54I don't think you're gonna find
24:55many recruits in here.
24:57We'd like to talk to you
24:58about what you saw last night
24:59in Fremont, Mr. Timmons.
25:01Police. Maynard.
25:03Somebody starts calling me mister,
25:04I think I'm in front of the judge.
25:06Can you tell us what you saw
25:07at that gas station?
25:09Ah, the gas station.
25:11That's why you fellas are here, huh?
25:13You want to know
25:14about the flying saucers?
25:15Just tell us what you saw,
25:17if you will, Maynard.
25:19Sure.
25:20Sure, I'll be glad to.
25:22See, I was on my way back
25:23to Salt Lake
25:24after a little business trip.
25:25I stopped for gas in Fremont.
25:27While I was waiting
25:28for the attendant,
25:29I looked up
25:30and that's when I saw
25:31those three lights in the sky.
25:32One of them started
25:33to blink Morris code.
26:02And it went straight up
26:03just like that.
26:04Still blinking out
26:05Morris code.
26:06How did you know
26:07that it was Morris code?
26:08Well, I was a signalman
26:09in the army.
26:10WW2.
26:11You know, the big one.
26:12And they were
26:13sending me a message.
26:14Can you tell us
26:15what the message said?
26:17Well, I could.
26:19But I won't.
26:21See, it's something
26:22I learned a long time ago.
26:23Never give anything away
26:24if you can sell it.
26:26Never give anything away
26:27if you can sell it.
26:29Never give anything away
26:30if you can sell it.
26:31If you can sell it.
26:42You read me?
26:44Loud and clear.
26:46No sale.
26:48Guard.
26:49Did you read
26:50what he tapped out?
26:51$10,000.
26:53Maynard's gonna play
26:54the game for all it's worth.
26:56He gets enough publicity.
26:58He may up Danny.
27:00Have enough for bail money.
27:02Check square one.
27:03Unreliable witness.
27:04You know,
27:05when you're quiet that long,
27:07you're usually
27:08cutting travel orders.
27:09I'm just thinking
27:10about that motorcycle cop,
27:11Armstrong.
27:13May be a long shot,
27:14but we better check it out.
27:15Head for the airport.
27:16I knew it.
27:17Where to?
27:18Houston.
27:19Tonight?
27:20What about tonight?
27:21I'll be there.
27:22I'll be there.
27:23I'll be there.
27:24I'll be there.
27:25I'll be there.
27:26I'll be there.
27:27I'll be there.
27:28I'll be there.
27:29I'll be there.
27:30I'll be there.
27:31I'll be there.
27:32I'll be there.
27:34What about that motel
27:35and sleeping in
27:36and all that?
27:37They've got motels in Houston.
27:38That's what you said
27:39about here in Salt Lake City.
27:40I know,
27:41but they got more in Houston
27:42and bigger.
27:46Ten minutes out of Houston.
27:47Want coffee, Major?
27:48Thanks.
27:50Thank you, miss.
27:51Appreciate it.
27:53Here you are, sir.
28:04Got a headache?
28:05All the time.
28:08These are sugar nose.
28:10Want some, sir?
28:12No, thanks.
28:18Five.
28:19This is my fifth cup today.
28:21Add the other four black.
28:23Makes sense.
28:24I forgot I brought them along.
28:27I've been meaning to ask you, sir.
28:29You've worked this UFO detail
28:30for over five years now.
28:31You ever seen one?
28:33Yes, I have.
28:34You never told me.
28:36You never asked.
28:38I won't reach
28:39for the tape recorder
28:40to take notes.
28:41It's on the record.
28:43It was about a year
28:44before I signed on
28:45with Blue Book.
28:46I was ferrying
28:47a rebuilt B-25
28:48out of Tinker AFB,
28:49Oklahoma City
28:50to March Air Force Base
28:51in California.
28:52It was part
28:53of the I-RAN program.
28:54Inspection and repair
28:55is necessary.
28:56Right.
28:58I'm not sure
28:59I've ever seen
29:00one like it.
29:01It was one
29:02of the old war birds.
29:03Still camouflaged
29:04from service in Korea.
29:12The purpose of the flight
29:13was to check out
29:14the modified right radios.
29:16They had installed
29:17some new design
29:18collector exhaust rings.
29:25Frank Beam
29:26and the factory engine rep
29:27was aboard
29:28along with my co-pilot
29:29Lt. Bob King
29:30and the flight engineer
29:31Carl Kramer.
29:42It was 1400 hours.
29:43We were about
29:4415 minutes west
29:45of Albuquerque,
29:46New Mexico.
29:47The factory rep
29:48was happy
29:49with the way
29:50his new exhaust rings
29:51were behaving.
29:52The co-pilot Bob King
29:53was flying the aircraft.
29:54I had my seat
29:55all the way back
29:56on the rails.
29:57That's when
29:58I realized
29:59I was going to die.
30:06Two o'clock high.
30:08See it?
30:12Ah, yes sir.
30:13I see it now.
30:17Looks like a craze
30:18on the windshield
30:19to me, sir.
30:20I've got it.
30:21I'm going to start
30:22a turn to the right.
30:23If it's a craze
30:24it'll disappear
30:25on the turn.
30:26If it's a target
30:27it'll cross the windshield
30:28right to left
30:29at the same rate
30:30of the turn.
30:38Well, you're right, sir.
30:39That's no craze.
30:40It's an aircraft.
30:41Negative.
30:42We're gaining on it.
30:44We're at 12-5.
30:45That target has to be
30:46at 30,000 feet.
30:48I make it speed
30:49150 knots.
30:50What aircraft
30:51do you know
30:52that can operate
30:53that slowly
30:54at that altitude?
30:55It's about to cross
30:56the windshield.
31:02It's dead ahead, Captain.
31:05Increasing pitch and power.
31:12Closing at the same rate, sir.
31:1350-knot differential.
31:19What do you make of it?
31:20I've never seen
31:21anything like that.
31:22Get the line.
31:23It's got to be
31:24a weather balloon.
31:25Negative.
31:26Jet streams don't
31:27flow east to west
31:28and that's the course
31:29we're on.
31:34Damn thing's
31:35going for the deck.
31:36That's moving
31:37down to treetop level.
31:55Hop down to
31:56bombardier's compartment.
31:57Get hooked up
31:58and talk to me.
31:59Yes, sir.
32:01Does anyone
32:02have a camera?
32:09Bombardier's compartment.
32:10I'm on, sir.
32:11Do you read me?
32:12Yes, sir.
32:13I'm on.
32:14Do you read me?
32:15Yes, sir.
32:16Do you read me?
32:17Yes, sir.
32:18Do you read me?
32:19Yes, sir.
32:20Do you read me?
32:21Yes, sir.
32:22Do you read me?
32:23Yes, sir.
32:24I'm on, sir.
32:25Do you read?
32:26Very good.
32:27Do you have a camera?
32:28No, sir.
32:29Sorry, sir.
32:30So am I.
32:35Kramer.
32:36Yes, sir.
32:37Listen up.
32:38All right, everybody.
32:39I make that object
32:40as perfectly circular.
32:42I estimate its diameter
32:43at approximately
32:4460 feet.
32:45Agree?
32:46I'd say the maximum depth
32:47at the center of the object
32:48is roughly 10 feet.
32:54I make no wings
32:55or empennage on the bogey?
32:56Correct.
32:57One more thing, sir.
32:58The ground shadow.
32:59I read it clear, sir.
33:00It's making a shadow.
33:02It's perfectly round.
33:04Like a big black silver dollar.
33:06Whatever that is,
33:07it's solid mass.
33:08If it throws a shadow,
33:09it's gotta be solid.
33:24The rate of close
33:25is now 100 feet per second, sir.
33:26Going full power.
33:28Mixture full reach.
33:41That thing's not
33:42operating on its own.
33:43Must have some kind
33:44of intelligent control.
33:54I don't see it, sir.
33:55It's gone.
33:56Kramer.
33:57No, sir.
33:58I don't see a thing.
33:59All right, Kramer.
34:00Take one last
34:01good look around.
34:02Keep your eyes peeled.
34:03Roger, sir.
34:24Well, we've lost it.
34:27Kramer?
34:28Nothing, sir.
34:30All right.
34:31Come on upstairs.
34:32Roger.
34:33Get us back
34:34on the proper heading.
34:35Trim for straight and level.
34:36All right.
34:37Here's what I propose.
34:39We'll be sitting down
34:40at March in about two hours.
34:41I suggest we
34:42do not discuss
34:43this incident
34:44among ourselves
34:45in the meeting.
34:46Otherwise,
34:47we'll be wasting
34:48our time and the budget.
34:50I know.
34:51Yes, sir.
34:52All right.
34:53We'll go down
34:54in the direction
34:55of the intersection
34:56at the end of the corridor.
34:57Keep an eye
34:58on both sides
34:59and keep the distance
35:00between the two.
35:01Roger.
35:02All right, sir.
35:03Let's get going.
35:04All right, Roger.
35:05among ourselves in the meantime I would like you not to talk it over with anyone
35:10on the ground don't make any telephone calls just don't talk about it I'd like
35:15all of you to write it up in your own words describe exactly what you saw
35:21today agreed
35:25sir I don't know what we saw but we sure as hell saw something
35:48the next morning at 0800 hours I had all three of their reports on my desk I
35:53compared them with mine had they read like I wrote them all myself exactly the
36:00same you said you weren't with blue book at the time was it ever investigated
36:06further as soon as I read those reports I turned everything over to the project
36:10and they ran it through the grinder weather reflections the whole enchilada
36:15nothing and with all that they assigned you to blue book probably because I had
36:20that signing that's the fact they figured at the very least I'd have an
36:25open mind that you got made I must have I put up with you as my partner very
36:32good sir I enjoy the way you come up with those zingers you're a good man
36:37Harry Fitz be tough going with anybody else thank you sir
36:44sir these UFOs the flying saucers the unknowns the hoaxes what do you think
36:49it's all taking us funny thing Harry you know most people are spooked by the
36:54idea of an alien intelligence dropping in on us at the same time they're
36:59excited by the idea even jealous when I think it's happened to somebody else
37:04it's a paradox isn't afraid of what we don't know and that hasn't changed since
37:12the first caveman looked up and saw the first shooting star
37:25from the description Armstrong gave us it seemed like the only logical thing
37:34all right I'll take your two-word major yes we have used some Nevada desert
37:41areas for classified testing of the lamb LT8 however the closest test area
37:46to Fremont was over 150 miles away but the kicker major we haven't tested an
37:51LT8 in the last five years what about new hardware something that might
37:57approximate to limb have you seen our budget lately no almost every dollar
38:03that's been allocated is going in the space shuttle would it be possible to
38:06get a reel of limb footage including the LTA sure if you want don't know what
38:10good it'd do you that footage is over five years old maybe none but it's a
38:14shot you guys from blue book you really have a tough job don't you most of the
38:19cases probably 70% are explainable misreading of a natural phenomenon or
38:25some man-made object and there are the outright hoaxes and there's a goodly
38:30number of those what about the other 30% they're the tougher ones those are the
39:05what do you think Bob did either of those vehicles look like what you saw
39:15not the same thing are you sure no similarities well yeah some but they
39:22aren't what I saw neither one of them I did notice that one of the machines had
39:27four legs the one I saw had three it's true one of the machines could move
39:33horizontally vertically and could hover just like the one I saw or in the
39:36spacesuits look somewhat alike but that's all the thing I saw was round or
39:43smoother almost like a big round ball neither of those is what I saw we'll be
39:53in touch with you as soon as the lab reports get back from the samples we
39:56send him hey Jim how do you explain it we can't all we can do is to continue to
40:03dig for evidence and try to come to some kind of logical conclusion and if there
40:08is no logical conclusion
40:19and now it's operations confirmed the night refueling exercise time and
40:24location check out with the Carson City sighting three tankers three flood
40:29lights that could account for the strange lights in the sky we also got a
40:32report from Allen Observatory a bow light exploded in that area about the
40:36same time all the pilots flying the mission confirmed it thank you that was
40:42the University lab on the phone what we already knew it wasn't me you're right
40:47what about those lab reports those brush and sand samples from the Armstrong
40:51sighting they should be here any minute hey where's your cat I don't know I
40:56think you found a girlfriend well I'm glad somebody's having a good time mr.
41:03Marsden did see lights in the sky they belong to three Air Force jet tankers
41:07engaged in a night refueling exercise the fourth light entered our atmosphere
41:12and exploded the same vicinity as the refueling tankers was a bow light a
41:17meteor and the object that crashed through your roof was this piece of
41:22that meteor media what are you talking about you see these markings those are
41:28alien to our earth no sir what you see there are striations caused when this
41:32meteor made its way through our atmosphere I assume you can
41:36substantiate all this yes sir fully we have documentation from your own Allen
41:41Observatory confirmation by the pilots and the analysis of the meteorite of the
41:45University of Nevada well Henry I guess we can pack it in you mean we're not
41:53going to sue not much profit in suing a meteor I have a suggestion for you mr.
42:00Marsden yeah what's that why don't you donate the meteorite to the observatory
42:05why should I do that maybe you can take it off your income tax as a deduction
42:09yeah that's not a bad idea Ethel take that dumb thing off your neck
42:40I don't want to talk about it anymore not to you or anybody just give us a
42:50moment of your time there's nothing more to discuss I think there is and we don't
42:54need this door between us Bob
42:57I quit the department today we're getting away from this town and
43:13everybody in it the way I see it the minute I opened my big mouth I jumped in
43:17it with both feet we made a mistake but it's a mistake this town will never let
43:22us forget what are you saying Bob that you shouldn't have reported something
43:26that you saw that's right oh what happened to where I said and no amount
43:30of abuse or derision gonna make me change my mind not about what I saw the
43:34thing that really sticks in my craw is the fact that nobody not my neighbors my
43:39friends not even the people that I worked with believe me Bob we have no
43:43extra ground blue book was organized to check out the possible existence of UFOs
43:48but in order to prove that existence we have to have more than hearsay we have
43:53to have hard incontrovertible facts now you say you saw an object something
43:58you've never seen before something totally unknown you saw two figures
44:04that's the way it happened isn't it okay now let's discuss the lab reports
44:31item 1 report indicates no radiation found that in itself may not be too
44:39significant but it does indicate whatever propulsion system was used it
44:43wasn't atomic item 2 no fuel residue was found item 3 burning was due to
44:50exceptionally high temperatures which could have effectively burned off any
44:53residue item 4 the penetrometer showed weight distribution at each point of
44:59contact approximately 24,000 pounds which would give the object a weight
45:06factor of about 47 tons and you know it would be impossible for Sam and me to
45:12have made those marks yes sir we do and what's the answer we don't know well
45:17damn it there was something there but we can't prove what then we write back
45:21what we started from leaving this sounds the only thing we can do a famous being
45:26harassed my kids beaten up I can't even do my job right anymore
45:29yesterday I stopped a guy for speeding he said what are you chasing me for I
45:33know flying saucer you sound funny but it sure ain't to me staying around here
45:38wouldn't be fair to my family the department aren't to me where are you
45:42going Reno I got a job there night watchman in a
45:46factory a much but we'll make out okay yeah I'm sure you will Bob is there
45:57anything we can do to help thanks major but I think we're gonna have to find our
46:02own way on this one
46:06look
46:16officer Armstrong we'd like to talk to you for a minute we heard you quit the
46:30force Bob and we know we're the cause of it and we don't like ourselves very much
46:35for that this national news magazine there's a survey been taken it says that
46:4254% of the people in this country believe in flying saucers well I guess
46:48that leaves some of us in a 46% group that don't but then we've never seen one
46:53what he's trying to say officer Armstrong is we've never doubted you as
46:58a policeman doing your duty so why should we doubt you now we all want you
47:03to stay Bob and if you say you saw something then damn it you saw something
47:08and that's the truth of it
47:16our house is a mess why don't you invite him in
47:23well how should we write it up major unsolved not all together sergeant
48:23Oh
