00:00Ineffective, archaic and destructive, that's how anti-sharknet campaigners describe them.
00:09There's no science that says sharknets and killing sharks make beaches safer.
00:15They argue the nets do more harm than good, killing unintended targets.
00:20It's dolphins, it's turtles, it's rays, it's harmless species of shark.
00:26Parks know that the sharknets don't work, councils know that the sharknets don't work,
00:31the public knows that the sharknets don't work.
00:33It's the government that needs to catch up.
00:36The government says it's prioritizing beachgoers' safety, and promises to work with local councils
00:41over summer to explore the issue.
00:43The Minister for Agriculture, Tara Moriarty, says the nets will be removed at the end of
00:48March next year, a month earlier than usual, in response to increased turtle activity in
00:54April.

01:06community is at.
01:07I know that there are a lot of Liberal MPs that want to see the nets come out, I know
01:11that there are also a lot of Labor MPs that want to see the nets come out.
01:14It just takes one of the major parties to really make that move and do what's right.
01:20An invitation for policy makers to find other ways to live with sharks.
