00:25The Devil Is A Part-Timer
00:27Writing a child character is a very delicate art.
00:31Do it right, and you've got a beloved personality like Anya from Spy Family.
00:35Do it wrong, and you've got Alice Ramers.
00:41Yep, for seemingly no reason, the Mausama writer decided to sabotage the series by introducing
00:51this character and adding a baby-raising storyline to the show.
01:01Not only was Alice annoying as hell, but her inclusion kind of derailed the whole devil-working-in-McDonalds
01:07storyline to the point that the show really suffered.
01:10Look, there's a lot of reasons why this anime fell off, but this is perhaps the most
01:16obvious one.
01:25Number 19.
01:26I Don't Wanna Kill Demons
01:28The Promised Neverland
01:30Promised Neverland already raised a few eyebrows when it started rushing through the plot and
01:36skipping entire arcs.
01:38But this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
01:44Despite the fact that these children's lives were being terrorised by monsters that preyed
01:48upon their flesh, the author decided to do the whole killing-is-wrong thing.
01:53Emma went full moral preacher right at the eleventh hour, proclaiming she didn't want
01:58to kill demons after all.
02:04This just didn't make sense after we witnessed the depravity of these utterly irredeemable
02:10creatures.
02:11When it was clear to viewers that they wouldn't get the satisfaction of seeing Emma mowing
02:15down legions of monsters to make a grand escape from the demon world, they just switched off.
02:25Number 18.
02:27New Frontiers
02:28Digimon Frontier
02:30As a child, we all wanted our very own partner Digimon.
02:34It was the concept that fuelled the show's narrative, with each DigiDestined's partner
02:39complementing their own personalities and insecurities, essentially leading them to
02:44grow and mature as people.
02:52When the fourth generation came around, they decided to scrap that entirely by cutting
02:57out the middleman.
02:58No more Digimon partners, now humans turn into Digimon.
03:08It was essentially a tokusatsu now, which a large chunk of the fanbase really wasn't
03:13vibing with, especially in the West.
03:16It is a shame, though, because the Frontier season is genuinely good and takes some risks
03:21that really pay off.
03:27Number 17.
03:28Meliodas vs. Escanor
03:31The Seven Deadly Sins
03:33Imagine you're reading your favourite manga series, and the most hype thing imaginable
03:38just happened.
03:39A clash between the two strongest leads in the show, and you know that someday it'll
03:45be brought to life in animated form.
03:48Now imagine that prophecy comes true, but the animation budget for said show was a piece
03:52of string and a paperclip.
04:01That is the unfortunate fate that Nanatsu no Taizai fans suffered when the Dragon Sin
04:05of Wrath and the Lion Sin of Pride came head-to-head.
04:18What was supposed to be the absolute peak of the series looked like it was hastily put
04:22together the night before it was supposed to air.
04:25It was practically a PowerPoint presentation.
04:29And still haven't forgiven Studio Deen for this one.
04:39Number 16.
04:40Kaiju Conundrum
04:42Godzilla – Singular Point
04:49The King of Monsters hasn't really had knockout success in the anime department yet, but Singular
04:55Point was still pretty darn solid.
04:58One thing that really rubbed Goji fans the wrong way, however, was its portrayal of some
05:02of the most beloved kaiju in the series.
05:05While their redesigns were decent enough, they opted to make favourites like Anguirus
05:10and Rodan pint-sized rather than colossal.
05:17In the case of Rodan, there wasn't just one, there were thousands.
05:22These portrayals kind of devalued the two iconic monsters' stock, and longtime fans
05:27of the series weren't happy.
05:36Number 15.
05:37Touka – The Apparent Homewrecker
05:40Tokyo Ghoul Re – Boy Meets Girl
05:43Boy gets with girl, boy and girl have a happy ending.
05:47If you ignore all the chaos it took them to get there, sounds like an ending everyone
05:52would want, right?
05:53Well unfortunately for a large subset of fans, this was the worst thing ever.
06:02After finally reuniting with each other, Kaneki and Touka reveal their true feelings for one
06:07another and do the deed.
06:15This was an absolutely crushing blow to the fujoshi community that desperately wanted
06:20Kaneki to get with his longtime friend Hide, and thus a lot of them swore off the series.
06:33Number 14.
06:34Recap Fest – Wolf's Reign
06:36Don't you just hate it when things are getting juicy, and you have to wait for the next episode
06:42to air?
06:45Well, imagine if you had to wait an extra week, and then another, and another, and another.
06:55That was unfortunately the case for Wolf's Reign which, for reasons, paused right at
07:00a pivotal point in the narrative to give fans four recap episodes in a row.
07:08They're told from different characters' perspectives, but they're essentially the
07:13same thing.
07:14After things returned to normal an entire month later, far less people were tuning in.
07:19Look, I'm just as shocked and frustrated as the rest of you.
07:23Number 13.
07:24Kuroneko Dumped – Ore Mo
07:27Despite the show's title, we'd been holding out hope that this story wasn't going to
07:32go down the dreaded sister route.
07:34So when Kyousuke earned the affections of Best Girl Ruri, we breathed a sigh of relief.
07:52Their romance was genuinely touching, and felt really natural after the arc they spent
07:57together in school.
07:58But of course, we can't have nice things, and for seemingly innocuous reasons, Kyousuke
08:04sort of fell out of love and split.
08:14There was no denying it at this point.
08:16Viewers were locked into the worst possible route, and so many decided to abandon ship
08:21before it reached its disturbing conclusion.
08:32Number 12.
08:33Killing Off The Wrong Brother – Nier Automata Version 1.1a
08:39Sometimes it's good to make some minor changes here and there to freshen up an adaptation,
08:44but unfortunately the adjustments made to Nier Automata were for the worse.
08:49In the original game, Adam is killed, leading to an excellent final showdown with Eve against
08:552B and 9S at the end of Route A. However, in the anime version, Eve is killed instead,
09:02with Adam turning into a gigantic, hulking robotic monster.
09:10This essentially leads to a much less interesting final showdown, where the Resistance takes
09:15down Adam, while 2B mostly stands there doing nothing.
09:23Unfortunately, this would stop a lot of people continuing with the second series, which has
09:30been incredibly faithful so far.
09:36Number 11.
09:38Rudy's Polygamy – Mashoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation
09:42The first half of Mashoku Tensei's second season concluded with Rudeus and Sylphieds
09:48finally reuniting after many years and getting engaged.
09:56Unfortunately, this heartwarming moment was ruined for some following the death of Rudeus'
10:02father, Paul, while in a state of mourning, Roxy makes a move on him in order to get him
10:07through it, which he accepts.
10:14Now this has upset a lot of people, as not only was it seen as Roxy taking advantage,
10:19but also the fact that Rudeus was being unfaithful to his pregnant wife.
10:25For people greatly bothered by this, it got even worse, as Rudey would go on to ask Sylphie
10:30if he could take in Roxy as his second wife, which she surprisingly accepted.
10:39Huh.
10:42Number 10.
10:43Season 2 – Aldernoa Zero
10:46We were on the edge of our seats by the time the first series of this unorthodox mecha
10:51had concluded.
10:55With the show's original concept by the Urobucha himself, we witnessed a bloody love
11:00triangle reach its apex as both Inaho and Princess Asalem were gunned down.
11:10How would they follow up such a spectacle?
11:12Oh, you know, by having the pair of them miraculously survive, all the while best boy Slane is now
11:18a warmonger with almost zero likeability.
11:30It's a colossal shame that the sequel season did all it could to mess up what was great
11:36about the first.
11:45Number 9.
11:46Kite's reincarnation – Hunter x Hunter
11:52While it was certainly upsetting to see Gon and Killua's teacher meet his bloody end,
11:57it was still a pivotal moment for the series.
12:07The young Hunters may have been thrilled to learn that Kite was given a second chance
12:11at life, but some fans certainly weren't.
12:14Why?
12:16Two reasons, really.
12:17First, it totally undercuts the emotional poignancy of Gon's retribution against Pitou.
12:22The second?
12:23Why was Kite brought back as a little girl?
12:25We're still scratching our heads on that one.
12:36Number 8.
12:37Ainscow's full villain – Overlord 3
12:40Granted, the undead ruler of Nazarick has never had a problem with killing, nor with
12:45pulling the wool over the eyes of innocent people in order to achieve his goals.
13:03That being said, fans were still convinced that deep down, he was more of an anti-hero.
13:09Well, those fans were in for a rude awakening when Ains ended up setting a trap for adventurers
13:17and leading them to some truly horrible ends.
13:28No matter what you thought about the extra characters, watching the fates of all four
13:32Foresight members unfold was incredibly unsettling, and Ains didn't even flinch.
13:38It was official – Bone Daddy was playing for the dark side.
13:46Number 7.
13:47Endless 8 – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
13:53We've talked about this particular controversy to death, so here's the basic rundown for
13:57those still wondering what all the fuss was about.
14:01Eight episodes of more or less the exact same thing, until the cast finally realise
14:06that they've been caught inside of a time loop.
14:09Unfortunately for us, there's no way to fast-forward this little paradox.
14:26The idea might have been solid, but the execution ended up draining what little promise it had.
14:32Next time, try trimming the fat and going for temporary three.
14:45Number 6.
14:46CGI Dragon – Fate Stay Night
14:49After experiencing everything from Fate Zero all the way to Unlimited Blade Works and beyond,
14:56looking back, the original is a little underwhelming in comparison.
15:00However, if there was one thing that kept us crawling back, it was the hope that Saber
15:11and Shiro's ship was going to make ports.
15:19Just when we thought Master and Servant were going to recreate the Sword in the Stone in
15:24the Bedroom, the show decided to swap the canonical love scene with a moment with the
15:29worst-looking dragon you've ever seen in an anime.
15:33I mean, what the hell even is that?
15:41Number 5.
15:42Yusuke's Lineage – Yu Yu Hakusho
15:46There was certainly a lot to love about the whole Chapter Black arc, namely how Shinobu
15:50Sensui was a complicated villain who put our favourite foursome through a lot.
15:56So when did fans jump ship?
15:58When it was revealed that Yusuke's ancestral father was Raizen, one of the most powerful
16:03demons of all time.
16:06Don't get us wrong, the whole philosophical aspect on how both humans and demons are capable
16:20of tremendous cruelty was a good angle to go on.
16:23But this is Yusuke we're talking about here.
16:28The guy whose humanity has allowed him to best each foe he's come across, making him
16:33part demon just puts a damper on his awesomeness.
16:36We really didn't need a sort of chosen one aspect.
16:46Number 4.
16:47Kamina's Death – Gurren Lagann
16:50The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long, as was the case with Team Daiguren's
16:57former leader.
16:58For a meagre eight episodes, Kamina lit up the screen with every appearance, all thanks
17:03to a mixture of light-heartedness and unrivalled manliness.
17:18Just when we had gotten used to his testosterone-fuelled motivational speeches, he was suddenly killed
17:24off right before the series really got to the meat of its story.
17:30Sure, his death served as the driving force to push Simon forward, but for some fans,
17:36they just couldn't continue watching without him.
17:42Number 3.
17:43Kid Goku – Dragon Ball GT
17:46Out of all the ways to handle a sequel to Dragon Ball Z, this most certainly was not
17:52the way to go about it.
18:00The train pretty much fell off the rails as soon as our favourite Super Saiyan was reverted
18:05back to his kid form, as per the original Dragon Ball.
18:12Unfortunately, the transformation didn't bring back that prequel's charm.
18:18Instead, it signalled the start of a poorly animated, boring and underwhelming venture
18:23that was even more forgotten in the wake of Dragon Ball Super.
18:28Fingers crossed that Daima tackles this same concept much better.
18:36Number 2.
18:40The End of L – Death Note
18:43It would be wrong to say that this anime fell flat following the demise of this now-iconic
18:49detective, but you can bet your backsides that millions of L fans were none too happy
18:54that Light's nemesis had been shafted at the show's halfway point.
19:05There were still plenty of epic moments in store, but there was definitely a dip now
19:09that the rivalry between the two geniuses had now become one-sided.
19:13Can't have a great cat and mouse plot without the cat, especially one that's addicted
19:28to sweets and has an overwhelming hatred for shoes.
19:53Number 1.
19:54Ash Loses the Kalos League Finals – Pokemon
19:58You would have thought by this point fans would have learned that Ash – and victory
20:02at tournament finals – did not mix.
20:05And yet, they still hoped against hope that he would pull out a miracle win.
20:20He didn't.
20:21Despite having the type advantage with his Greninja against Alain's Mega Charizard,
20:26Ash was unable to go all the way and become the Kalos League champion.
20:39Coming from the guy who has managed to overcome death, conquered countless gym battles, and
20:45has been known to be a part-time messiah, you would have thought he would have known
20:49how to spam water attacks against a damn Charizard.
20:52Thankfully, years later he would go on to win the Manalo Conference and later become
20:57world champion in the Sword and Shield series.
21:01The writers definitely learned from this mishap.
