The police confirmed that a former deputy minister in the prime minister's department went to Myanmar for real-estate investment matters.

However, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police are still investigating Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim in connection with alleged human trafficking activities.

00:10However, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department CID Director-Commissioner Datuk
00:16Seri Mohamad Shuhaili Mohamad Zain said Datuk Dr Mashita Ibrahim remains under police investigation
00:23in connection with alleged human trafficking in Myanmar involving Malaysians.
00:29He added that the CID is still collecting information to complete the investigation
00:34and also managed to record the statement of an individual with a Datuk Seri title for
00:39the same case.
00:41He said the police have so far recorded the statements of five individuals, including
00:46Dr Mashita, and will also be recording the statement of an Indonesian blogger.
00:52The CID chief said the investigation also involved identifying other individuals involved
00:58in the case.
01:00It was reported on August 28 that the former deputy minister was accused of being the mastermind
01:06of an international human trafficking syndicate operating in Myanmar.
01:11It was alleged that the woman, along with her husband, held key positions as senior
01:16security officials in a company and were believed to be involved since early 2020.
01:21Dr Mashita has since denied the allegations.
