London Fire Brigade's Response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report
Transcript
00:00The publication of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report marks another important moment
00:06in the process of learning lessons from this terrible tragedy.
00:09It is our duty to those who lost their lives, their loved ones and to those who survived
00:17that we use the findings of the Inquiry to continue to drive change as we serve and protect
00:22Londoners.
00:24On this day, as always, our thoughts remain with the 72 people who died, the survivors,
00:30their families and the entire Grenfell community.
00:34We must never forget the impact the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire has had.
00:40On the night of the fire, the London Fire Brigade faced the most formidable challenge
00:45that any fire service in the UK has confronted since the Blitz.
00:50Our staff responding to the fire, as well as the residents of Grenfell Tower, showed
00:55extreme courage in the face of the most challenging of circumstances.
01:02We owe it to them, alongside the bereaved, the survivors and the community, to continue
01:08to learn and change the way we work to ensure that whatever situation our crews face, they
01:13are prepared to respond.
01:18In 2019, we accepted every recommendation from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 1 report,
01:26and they have been at the very centre of our subsequent transformation.
01:30London Fire Brigade has undergone a process of deep institutional change in terms of its
01:36culture, its leadership and its ways of working.
01:42This year, we completed every recommendation directed specifically to us in the Grenfell
01:48Tower Inquiry Phase 1 report.
01:52We have introduced and embedded important policies, new equipment, improved training
01:57and better ways of working, particularly in how we respond to fires in residential high-rise
02:02buildings and hundreds of Londoners have been saved as a result.
02:06This was evidenced at the awful fire in Dagenham late last month.
02:13Change is at the heart of how the Brigade operates today.
02:16It is our commitment to remain a listening, learning and a leading organisation.
02:22We are now much better prepared to respond, and we are not complacent.
02:28We are in dialogue with the Government and the Mayor of London as we all look at what
02:31must be done to ensure that buildings in London are safe.
02:35And we will continue to push for change in laws and regulation that are still needed.
02:43We recognise the critical importance of the Inquiry's findings and recommendations and
02:48we will set out an action plan detailing our response to each recommendation in due course.
02:54This plan will be developed following consultation and in collaboration with the Grenfell community
03:00and our Community Forum.
