00:00It's been more than seven years since the world watched on in disbelief as a 23-storey
00:06tower block in the heart of London went up in flames with residents still inside.
00:12Now a long-awaited report has found the fire which killed 72 people including 18 children
00:18was the result of decades of failings by successive governments, the construction industry and
00:23even the London Fire Brigade.
00:26The simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable and those who
00:32lived in the tower were badly failed over a number of years and in a number of different
00:37ways by those who were responsible for ensuring the safety of the building and its occupants.
00:45The report found years of government and industry failures turned Grenfell into a death trap
00:50and that incompetence, greed and dishonesty led to avoidable deaths.
00:54It found the company that made the cladding on Grenfell Tower deliberately concealed safety
00:59risks and that the government failed to act on known fire risks to high-rise buildings.
01:05Relatives of victims say the inquiry's findings have not brought them any closure or sense
01:10of justice.
01:11Man's law to charges.
01:13Someone needs to be done because if you're telling me that greed, dishonesty, somebody
01:20needs to pay for that.
01:22Somebody needs to pay for being incompetent.
01:25Somebody needs to pay for not doing their jobs properly because they didn't do their
01:28jobs properly led to people dying.
01:31The public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire is now over but a separate criminal investigation
01:36is ongoing.
01:38Police have warned it could be years before any potential charges are laid.
