00:00The sky in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, lit up for a moment just a while ago at 12 o'clock in the early morning.
00:07Several residents were able to capture the passage of an asteroid.
00:11Six fireballs were seen in the sky.
00:14It was also seen in the town of Santa Ana.
00:17The so-called asteroid 2024-RW1 was called by experts.
00:23According to experts, the asteroid was only detected around 4 p.m. yesterday
00:30by an astronomical observatory in Arizona, America.
00:34No one expected that an asteroid would fall from the sky because it was burned in the atmosphere.
00:41Meanwhile, when an asteroid suddenly lit up the sky in Cagayan early in the morning,
00:47let's talk to Mr. Mario Raymundo, the head of Astronomical Publication and Planetarium Unit ng Pag-asa.
00:55Good morning and welcome to Balitang Hali.
00:58Yes, Connie. Good morning to all the viewers of your program.
01:04Balitang Hali.
01:05What does it mean when an asteroid enters the Earth's atmosphere?
01:11Well, the period of discovery and the point of entry to the Earth that we call 2024-RW1 asteroid is very near.
01:23Now, this asteroid is said to be by history and data, it is a pantheon.
01:30There are many kinds of asteroids that are located between planets Mars and Jupiter.
01:36And then, most of them have data.
01:43However, not all of them are clear because when it is discovered, it will enter the atmosphere.
01:50And so, they predicted that this orbital period will fall here in the Philippines, in the northern tip of the Philippines.
01:57Their prediction is almost accurate because based on the videos that I see now,
02:04those that you posted on Facebook, it is more or less 1240.
02:08So, the real one that they see is not a defunct satellite.
02:13This is a real asteroid that entered the atmosphere.
02:17I see. Okay.
02:18But the European Space Agency said that it should not be disturbed because it is harmless. Is that right?
02:26Because its characteristic is an explosion in the high atmosphere.
02:30It means that such an asteroid, such as METEORS,
02:35when it enters our atmosphere, it burns.
02:40And so, if it is in excess of fusion, it will suddenly explode.
02:45Okay.
02:46Most of them will not be able to reach our Earth because it will be destroyed there, especially when it is small.
02:53Is there... Yes. Sorry, go ahead.
02:56And if anyone can survive during that fragmentation,
02:59because it exhibits a terminal flask, a bright terminal flask,
03:04if anyone can survive the fragmentation and our countrymen are able to sit on it,
03:10this is what we call a meteorite, which is a side-out.
03:13Because I think that if anyone can survive, they can land on the sea.
03:17I see. Okay.
03:18But will there be similar events in the near future?
03:22Definitely, there will be.
03:24Because we have billions of pieces of asteroids in between Mars and Jupiter.
03:31Of course, those near-Earth objects are what we call Atens and Apollos.
03:39Those are Earth-crossers.
03:41So definitely, there will be a time when those will visit the planet Earth.
03:48But of course, the question is, when?
03:51That is the real question of our astronomers.
03:55Thank you very much for sharing with us the information of Mr. Mario Raymundo
03:59of the Astronomical Publication and Planetarium Unit of Pag-asa.
