00:51:49of the WWF with a segment entitled,
00:51:51The Call of the Action.
00:51:53Here to show us some great WWF moments
00:51:55is someone you hear describing and analyzing
00:51:57the blow-by-blow action of the World Wrestling Federation,
00:52:00Lord Alfred Hayes.
00:52:01Now, Alfred, I'm sure you would agree the moves and holds
00:52:04of the WWF continue to get more elaborate
00:52:07as each year goes by.
00:52:08You're right, Sean, they do.
00:52:09However, there are still a lot of holds
00:52:11that have been around for a long time
00:52:14and yet even today,
00:52:15they're very much a part of the ring action.
00:52:18One of the things that sets the WWF apart
00:52:21from all other sports
00:52:22is the thousands upon thousands of intricate holds,
00:52:26most of which are designed to inflict pain
00:52:28and damage upon opponents,
00:52:30while others are used to buy time
00:52:32in an effort to plot out a new game plan.
00:52:35In this segment of Super Tape,
00:52:37we're going to take a look
00:52:38at many of the complex holds and moves
00:52:40of the WWF
00:52:42and give you the name of each one.
00:52:44It's time to take a look at the call of the action.
00:52:48The Rockers use a variety of holds and moves
00:52:51to keep their record in the WWF
00:52:53as one of the best tag teams.
00:52:55Here's a look at some of those moves in the ring.
00:53:00Let's take another look at that.
00:53:02Here we see the Rockers use a combination of moves
00:53:05to dazzle their opponents,
00:53:07each one executed with strength and superb timing.
00:53:11In that sequence, we saw a move called Skin the Cat,
00:53:15followed by a Leapfrog,
00:53:17into a Grappler,
00:53:19and finally,
00:53:20we saw the Rockers use a hold
00:53:22that's a little bit more complex
00:53:24and a little bit more difficult.
00:53:26Followed by a Leapfrog,
00:53:28into a Clothesline,
00:53:30and finished off by a double-synchronized Dropkick.
00:53:36Once again, teamwork is the name of the game for the Rockers.
00:53:48Here we see that same duo at it again.
00:53:51In this sequence, the Rockers are at their best
00:53:54using a Double Elbow Drop,
00:53:56then a Nip-Up,
00:53:58and end the sequence with a move they call
00:54:00the Human Cannonball.
00:54:04Now get ready for a very exciting series of moves.
00:54:24Here is an Irish Whip,
00:54:26sending the opponent into the ropes.
00:54:32Then a Double Facebreaker.
00:54:43And to wrap it up, a Midsection Blow,
00:54:46and a Pull-Dog.
00:54:49And to wrap it up, a Midsection Blow,
00:54:52and a Pull-Dog.
00:54:55To win their matches, the Rockers have two favorable maneuvers.
00:54:58The first is the Springboard Maneuver.
00:55:07And then it is the ever-spectacular Double Flying Fists.
00:55:12However, no look at the high-flying moves would be complete
00:55:16unless we look at the Superfly Jimmy Snooker.
00:55:20When mixing it up, he sometimes uses a Side Headlock,
00:55:24followed by a great countermaneuver called a Running Shoulder Block.
00:55:30This is also one of his finer moves, the Flying Headbutt.
00:55:34And then, truly, a move that has made him famous
00:55:37throughout the entire World Wrestling Federation,
00:55:40his trademark, the move called the Superfly.
00:55:43Jimmy Snooker has two Superfly moves,
00:55:46which he uses for different situations.
00:55:48One is a version of the Flying Body Press,
00:55:51used to pin an opponent who is still on his feet.
00:55:54The other is a basic off-the-top Rope Splash,
00:55:57used to pin an opponent who is still on his feet.
00:56:01The other is a basic off-the-top Rope Splash,
00:56:04used when his opponent is already down on the mat.
00:56:07Either way, it is still one of the single most exciting moves
00:56:11in the World Wrestling Federation.

00:56:28we are fortunate to have here on Supertape two of the best.
00:56:32Our first feature match-up is a tremendous battle
00:56:34between two athletes who have been Intercontinental Champion.
00:56:37It's Ravishing Rick Rude against Tito Santana.
00:56:40Our second takes a look at one of the hottest ongoing battles
00:56:44in the history of the WWF.
00:56:46We'll take you to New York's Madison Square Garden
00:56:48in a match that is certain to become an all-time WWF classic.
00:56:52Jake the Snake Roberts against the Million Dollar Man,
00:56:55Ted DiBiase.
00:56:57I really found that interesting about the moves.
00:56:59It was, because...
00:57:09Oh, is he on fire and ready?
00:57:12And she likes what she sees.
00:57:15Ravishing Rick Rude.
00:57:18Across the way, the referee is Joey Morello.
00:57:22And here we go.
00:57:28Rude, somewhat hesitant or reluctant to come out of the corner.
00:57:33Everything set here for a great match
00:57:35between these two closely matched men.
00:57:38Ravishing Rick Rude, who wants to show everybody
00:57:41a little more of that magnificent physique.
00:57:44And of course, Tito Santana, who doesn't care anyway.
00:57:47He just wants to get on with the wrestling.
00:57:53Tito may not have the cut and the definition
00:57:56of Ravishing Rick Rude, but he's got nothing to be ashamed of.
00:57:59So far, his torso, chest tapering down,
00:58:02arms, quadriceps.
00:58:06We're maybe going to have a little show of strength here
00:58:09as we look closely at Tito Santana.
00:58:14One of the real great stars of the World Wrestling Federation,
00:58:17a Ravishing Rick Rude is as well.
00:58:21And all it adds up to is a big, big explosion
00:58:25here at the Boston Garden.
00:58:28As you look closely at Rude and Santana,
00:58:31ready to get into a Greco-Roman knuckle lock
00:58:34and a show of strength.
00:58:36Anything can happen here, and usually it does.
00:58:43Santana was a little slow and reluctant in the first part
00:58:47to accept that challenge of a show of strength,
00:58:50but he might have been well advised.
00:58:53What a look.
00:58:54What a look on the face of Tito Santana.
00:58:57But back up he comes.
00:59:01Santana, about the time it looked like he was going to
00:59:04take advantage, Ravishing Rick Rude gets on top again.
00:59:08But here comes Tito one more time.
00:59:13Tremendous look of determination there on the face of Santana.
00:59:19Rude looks like he may be about ready to put him down.
00:59:22And Santana hits the deck with one knee.
00:59:26Oh, hey.
00:59:27A little showboating on the part of Rude there
00:59:30because he's won this first phase of this show of strength.
00:59:34But Santana has great lasting powers,
00:59:37and that explosive strength that Rude has made
00:59:40the early momentarily.
00:59:42Rude better leave his showboat outside of the ring
00:59:46when he's in there against the likes of Tito Santana,
00:59:49who's coming back again.
00:59:51And the crowd's coming right along with him.
00:59:54And down goes Rude.
00:59:58Whoa.
00:59:59And 20,000 save.
01:00:01Yes, Tito Santana.
01:00:10A nice finishing up move there by Santana.
01:00:15Cruising the knuckles of Rude there.
01:00:17And Rude's still in a lot of pain from that.
01:00:22What?
01:00:26A lot of pain being shown there by Rude.
01:00:29It's going to take him a long time to recover from that.
01:00:33His valentine was hurt as well.
01:00:35He certainly has a pained expression on his face.
01:00:38And now it is time for Tito Santana.
01:00:44And he takes advantage of the opportunity.
01:00:47Now he wants a showdown.
01:00:50Whether or not he's going to get it from Rude.
01:00:54We will wait and see.
01:00:57Whoa.
01:00:59Santana is really, really taunting the Ravishing One.
01:01:06Looks like it's another showdown here between these two.
01:01:10One at 251, that's Rude.
01:01:12Santana at 244.
01:01:15However, Rude backs off.
01:01:18Gives another pose.
01:01:22A little show of temper there.
01:01:25A little temper tantrum by Ravishing Rick Rude.
01:01:29He doesn't like this too much.
01:01:31He's being shown up in front of the ladies.
01:01:34And he goes into a side headlock that Tito Santana wasn't exactly ready for.
01:01:40I think Santana thought there was actually going to be another showdown.
01:01:44However, Rude had other things on his mind.
01:01:48Expect the unexpected when you're in against Ravishing Rick Rude.
01:01:54And Rude better do the same thing with Santana.
01:01:57A very crafty veteran.
01:01:59He knows them all.
01:02:02Trying to power his way out of a side headlock there.
01:02:05And he may just come out of it.
01:02:09Strength against strength.
01:02:11And it's Santana.
01:02:14For the moment, and then Ravishing Rick Rude grabs a hold of the hair.
01:02:18Which the referee did not see.
01:02:21Santana grabs back in kind, which the referee did see.
01:02:25So did you and I.
01:02:32The 20,000 roaring.
01:02:35And you know for who.
01:02:37Tito Santana.
01:02:40Again.
01:02:42A test of strength.
01:02:44Santana powering his way up.
01:02:46But again, it is Rude going to the hair.
01:02:48And so does Santana.
01:02:50But unfortunately, when Santana does it, it's right in front of the referee.
01:02:59Again, the side headlock here by Ravishing Rick Rude.
01:03:02Grinds away a bit on another set of colorful tights being worn here by Rude.
01:03:09Did you ever wear tights like that, Lord Elford?
01:03:12No, I didn't.
01:03:13I'm just watching here.
01:03:14And I think Santana, he's got to adopt some other plan here.
01:03:19Because what he's doing right now, he's playing into the hands of Rude.
01:03:23He did in the beginning by a little posturing, a little strutting.
01:03:27He shouldn't have done that.
01:03:28He should have stuck to the basics of wrestling.
01:03:31And some hard shots just like that.
01:03:33And he'll wager this war much better.
01:03:36Well, he certainly has opened up here and now against the Ravishing One.
01:03:40And that whip jarred Rude from head to toe.
01:03:45And Santana digs in again.
01:03:50Tito Santana.
01:03:56Back on top of the Ravishing One with a forearm smash.
01:04:00And again, a whip.
01:04:02Holy mackerel.
01:04:05That's better, better on the part of Santana.
01:04:08Now he's getting into this match a lot more.
01:04:11And now he's got to follow up.
01:04:14The only thing that Santana mustn't do that many men have done,
01:04:18many opponents, of Ravishing Rick Rude,
01:04:22and that is to underestimate his wrestling ability.
01:04:25A lot of them have got in and thought,
01:04:27here is nothing but a strong man which shows you
01:04:30A lot of them have got in and thought,
01:04:32here is nothing but a strong man which show boating moves.
01:04:35He's not all that.
01:04:36He has some very, very good basic down to earth wrestling moves
01:04:40that he can turn against you at any time.
01:04:43He certainly hit Rude in a precarious position there with that cobra clutch.
01:04:48And then when he was about to come out of it,
01:04:50Rude about to come out of it,
01:04:52Santana went to something else.
01:04:53And now he's back to it again.
01:04:57Tito Santana really, really laying the lumber to Ravishing Rick Rude.
01:05:04And suddenly it is Rude that's going to have to come up with something
01:05:07very quickly to get back in this thing.
01:05:13The back of Ravishing Rick Rude has really taken a pounding,
01:05:17not only with these late maneuvers over the past 60 seconds to two minutes,
01:05:22but the whips from corner to corner
01:05:24where he went crashing into the turnbuckles.
01:05:29And again, he has Ravishing Rick Rude exactly where he wants him.
01:05:34And the pressure is on the back.
01:05:36It is on the neck.
01:05:38And credit Rick Rude with coming back, however.
01:05:43Rude turned very, very quickly.
01:05:46As Santana was going to come down on his back once too often.
01:05:51And Rude caught him.
01:05:52And did he ever.
01:05:53Santana throwing caution to the wind there.
01:05:56He maneuvered into that situation and used that particular move
01:06:00about three or four times.
01:06:02You cannot do that against an experienced and veteran wrestler
01:06:06and a very, very good wrestler like Rude.
01:06:09And now Santana is paying a very, very dear price for that.
01:06:14And here comes the Ravishing one.
01:06:16Santana seems to see him, however.
01:06:18Uh-oh.
01:06:21Rude with a front atomic drop.
01:06:26A reverse atomic drop, however you want to look at it.
01:06:29And that man is hurting.
01:06:30And this is giving Rude all the time he needs
01:06:33to take that important breather.
01:06:35He's bought himself time with those punishing moves,
01:06:38and he's going to take full advantage of it.
01:06:40He knows that you can't pin Santana right now.

01:19:06your attention has got to be diverted.
01:19:10That's a very big plus in the favor of Jake the snake there.

01:20:27he is a great wrestler.

01:22:30Although Ted DiBiase hasn't been able to command this match,
01:22:33he's frustrating him.
01:22:35He has so many weapons in his arsenal
01:22:38that he can bring out something and use it at different times,
01:22:42and obviously physically he's not doing so well,
01:22:45but mentally maybe he's doing a lot better than we imagine.

01:26:40When he gets on a roll, he can really execute.

01:26:44He knows exactly when to come in,
01:26:46when to lay back a little bit,
01:26:48when to pile that pressure on.

01:26:52He had everything correctly done.
01:26:54But at the moment, Roberts,
01:26:56still with some reserve energy left
01:26:58that he can dig down for,
01:27:00and still showing that it takes a great wrestler
01:27:03to beat a great wrestler.
01:27:05You certainly have those two elements
01:27:07in the ring at the moment.
01:27:11Right on the chin.
01:27:14That headlock apply as Virgil looks in.
01:27:18And Jake the Snake Roberts,
01:27:20thanks in part to Virgil,
01:27:23is on the receiving end of all this punishment.

01:27:59And Roberts just drags his way out of it
01:28:01that time with an arm drag,
01:28:03but DiBiase will not let up.

01:28:32it appears that he does things with ease almost.

01:28:40and how devastating DiBiase can be.

01:31:39and what a great move by Roberts.

01:31:46It was tremendous.
