Public Libraries can be massively important community hubs, but in recent years, it feels as though they have slightly fallen out of the public consciousness.

We’ve asked people on the streets of Manchester if they can think of ways that libraries can become central to life here once more.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World, and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about public libraries.
00:05Now, for a lot of people, public libraries can really be the backbone of a community.
00:09We want to know whether people are still using them, whether they see the benefit of them,
00:13what they'd like to see change, and how we can improve our public libraries.
00:16For me, at least, it was part of my primary education was we visited libraries and were taught how to use them.
00:23So I think just kind of the demystification of them in terms of, you know, knowing how to access what you need.
00:30They definitely serve a purpose, like, I don't know, I'd like to think like even younger cousins and kids and stuff,
00:35like, I'd hate to see them not having them resources.
00:38A bit of a tip for parents to bring young kids as well, that is, well, I think they're free at home anyway.
00:42Yeah.
00:43You don't have to pay, so it's good for that case.
00:46There's very few modern libraries that has the technology so you can charge your laptop, you can find books, you know.
00:52I remember it being a really valuable resource when I was growing up, and I think it still can be,
00:56but I don't think it's necessarily utilized to the full extent that it could be.
