  • last week
Domestic tournaments are absolutely important for the game. When you want to judge a youngster coming into the side the value of the runs is higher if it’s against strong bowlers. "I am happy to see the amount of talent that are playing in this year’s Duleep trophy: Former India batter and Purani Dilli-6 coach Vijay Dahiya told IANS.

00:00Absolutely. And especially when you're making a comeback, it's very important. It's a very
00:03fast-paced tournament. You need to realize to stay alive in this. You will lose some,
00:08but how many you end up winning. And that is very important. You don't need confidence only
00:14when you lose. You need it when you're winning as well. And it's that body language you wanted it.
00:18And I think the only thing that we wanted as a support staff to give them enough
00:23confidence or environment where they can perform to their level best. And most of the guys have
00:28done that. As far as potential is coming, it comes into the picture. I said it earlier as well.
00:33Some of them are really, really talented. But it's about turning that potential into a performance
00:39and that you can do it when you start feeling easy, when you start feeling confident. And most
00:44of the boys have done that. Not really. I think the main purpose when the tournament started was
00:48to get into the last four. And now it's a knockout stage now. It's a knockout stage.
00:52If it's a knockout stage for us, it's a knockout stage for South Delhi as well.
00:55Let's give credit where it's due. I think their two batters are batting exceptionally well.
01:00And this is what we've been thinking about. How do we counter them? Because their batting is
01:04absolutely revolving around Prashant Arya and Ayush Padoni. They are the two mainstays as far as
01:12their batting is concerned. So the only thing will be that how we try and catch them early. How do
01:17we get them out early and put pressure on South Delhi side? But yeah, you're absolutely right.
01:21They're playing some really good cricket. Absolutely important for the game. I can
01:27completely understand when players are playing a very heavy schedule and they don't have enough
01:31time. But this is a season opener. And the standard goes automatically high if all top-class
01:36bowlers are playing in a competition. And when you want to judge a youngster coming in the side
01:41who will get some runs, the value of those runs will be high because the kind of bowling attack
01:46that you are scoring those runs against. Very happy to see the amount of talent or the amount
01:52of names are playing in this year's Delhi Trophy. It's a brilliant concept. I think as far as
01:55white-ball cricket is concerned, there are so many players who are waiting for something like
01:59this to happen. Because when you're playing for state, what happens is only 10-15, maximum 20
02:05people get an opportunity throughout the year. But with this, six teams involved,
02:09you're talking about almost 200 players playing or not playing, being a part of this setup.
02:14It's a fantastic opportunity. I think credit must be given to Mr. Rohan Jaitley. The way
02:19they have organised this, the thinking behind it and organising it in such a good way. I think
02:25this tournament is going to go up from here. A lot of people will be waiting for the second
02:29edition. And I think this is what speaks about a tournament where people start waiting for the
02:35second edition. And I think this is what's going to happen. It's going to be a great tournament.
