Black Country lad on a mission to keep Wolverhampton street signs clean
After noticing dirty street signs littered all over Wolverhampton, local business owner Owen James has been selflessly spending his free time cleaning them up.

00:04I started cleaning the signs in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas
00:08mainly because they're dirty and you can't see actually where you're going and the main reason I started it
00:13I was in the traffic line waiting for the traffic lights to change and I noticed a sign where you couldn't see it
00:19so obviously I pulled up, cleaned it, put it on Facebook and it blew up on Facebook and
00:25reason, another reason why we do it, we do commercial residential window cleaning in Wolverhampton and
00:31obviously the customers have helped us build a business so it's a way of giving back to the community as well.
00:36The way I clean the signs in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas is
00:40I'll pull up to one, put my hazards on, on the van, get some signs out, fail for safety, make sure no one's in the way,
00:46get my power led and then start cleaning them and then once done move on to the next one and then if there's none that
00:52I see on that day, there's always one on the next day because there's loads in Wolverhampton that need cleaning to be fair.
00:58When I do clean the signs I get a lot of reactions as you can probably imagine.
01:03People wind down the windows say, oh good lad, go on, council, don't do it, fair play.
01:09I also get horns beeping at me and then obviously I put a photo on Facebook lately with a video and that hit
01:16500 likes within two hours really. It's off of a night and that was on WB11 Asthma page
01:22and then another page called the Village Alliance that hit 330 likes within a couple of hours it was
01:28and that's the main reason we do it, to be fair, it keeps the community clean.
01:32I'm happy doing my bit for the community to keep the place clean
01:36but really it should be down to the councils, local councils, to keep the signs clean and
01:41obviously where there's litter by the signs to also pick it up as we also do do litter picking by the signs.
01:47That should be done by Wolverhampton City Council.
01:49But we don't mind doing it, it keeps the place clean, that's the main thing.
