00:00Yeah, I mean I thought it was it was a decent level from from both of us
00:08especially the the first two sets very physical I think the first couple of
00:14sets were about two hours 15 and it was it was tough having both of them not go
00:20my way but yeah I thought thought obviously Yannick again plays at such a
00:26high level all the time I had chances here and there and I didn't take them
00:29and obviously when you play the best players in the world you need to do that
00:32and yeah I obviously wasn't wasn't feeling my best and struggled a certain
00:39certain periods of match especially towards the end but you know Yannick
00:43Yannick beat me fair and square he was too strong for me today. Thank you.
00:46Name and affiliation one question each Simon. Simon from the Telegraph. Can you tell us if
00:53you came in feeling any stomach issues or was it the nausea just to do with the
01:00humidity? Yeah I mean I obviously was extremely humid today hasn't hasn't been
01:09pretty much the the whole week as of yet you know I think you know it's
01:17obviously very physical match obviously it's that's why Yannick's number one
01:22player in the world because when you when you play the top players the the
01:25intensity is different you know it's it's it's it's a step up you know and I
01:31think obviously it's a it's a bigger big occasion for me you know I definitely
01:36felt even though I generally feel pretty relaxed and stuff I definitely felt a
01:41little bit more excited today you know a few more nerves around and you know I'm
01:48definitely someone who's you know I think quite an anxious human being so I
01:53think you know when when you add all that together sometimes I do feel bit
01:58nausea on court and I do feel a little bit sick when it gets tough so
02:03yeah I didn't have any problems before the match but it obviously just built up.
02:07Neil and then David. Do you actually feel better when you threw up on the
02:12call? How close were you to to retiring? No you don't you don't feel better you
02:18just you do you feel worse and worse because you can't you can't put anything
02:25in your body you know like when you're playing long matches you need to be able
02:30to drink and to eat things and to you know give your body the supplies it
02:39needs to keep on going but obviously when you're when you're feeling sick and
02:43and stuff like that you can't put anything inside your body because it
02:46just comes straight out and it's the worst feeling ever you can't you can't
02:49move around the court when that happens so so no it's a horrible feeling and you
02:55just feel you feel more dizzy and more sick the the more you the more you do
03:01are sorry no no no I'm not gonna retire in the semis of a Grand Slam you know I
03:09tried to I know the last set you know I probably looked like from court side or
03:15on TV that it was you know not not a great not a great look but you know at
03:21the end of the day I always try and give my best you know I the second set I was
03:28feeling not too great and you know I still pushed it to a tie break and I was
03:33just I was fighting hard you know I'm proud of myself I tried to try to fight
03:40as hard as I can you know it's just just not gonna get it done against someone
03:42like that.
03:44When did you first start to feel unwell in the match?
03:51I think you know we had we had like a tough tough opening set you know five
04:00all we had a we had a really tight game you know I definitely was was sometimes
04:06in the matches you feel and you're anxious build up you know in certain
04:11moments and I definitely felt like five all in the first set was a big game you
04:14know for in a couple of double faults I think it was juice a few times and then
04:18definitely when I came out for the first game in the in the second set he
04:23was he was trying to obviously get the break first game and I managed to hold
04:29him off but definitely he was starting to to not feel great in that moment so
04:35like I said like it was just I tried to do my best to fight it for as long as
04:40possible and I did a good job you know I put myself in a winning position in some
04:44some of those moments in the second set like I definitely felt like he was
04:47struggling as well but obviously when you when you go two sets the love down
04:52you know it's still such a long way to go and you're just constantly getting
04:55feeling worse and worse you talk about the anxieties that you've had yeah you're
05:0322 she temp slam do you think that's anxieties will go with more experience
05:07do you think that's something that would disappear and what did you do as a coping
05:09mechanism behind the scenes for those yeah definitely you know like I'm I'm
05:14getting as a as a as a player you know I'm getting more and more experience you
05:20know that's that's the one the one thing you know this that's helping me this
05:24year and helping me to you know feel better in general is you know the more
05:29experiences you have of situations the the easier the easier things become and
05:36you just take it all in your stride you know obviously Yannick's been in this
05:40situation a few times now you know so it's he can sort of relate to maybe the
05:46the feelings you know it's difficult you know like obviously I'm a I'm an I'm an
05:53athlete I'm a tennis player you know there's there's so many there's so many
05:56athletes out there you know we've all we've all got things we're working
06:00through all the time you know we tennis tennis especially or just any sport is
06:05hugely mental and physical and you know I try my best all the time to to keep on
06:11evolving to keep on on learning and and it's definitely something you know I've
06:15had to just work through my whole entire life you know just I think I've got
06:20quite a strong mentality and quite a sort of almost you know I use up a lot
06:26of mental energy a lot of the time because I'm I want it so badly but
06:30obviously that doesn't necessarily help a lot of the time especially in these
06:34five-set matches and and that that sort of anxiety and that those feelings can
06:38build up so it's definitely just something that you know is a real
06:42strength of mine but also a weakness and I have to continue to work on it please
06:46sound with your devices Charlie
06:50Congrats on a great tournament I just wonder how different and what are the
06:54main differences of playing someone like a top player like Yannick in a best of
06:58five set match on that court were there things that you almost never experienced
07:03yeah I mean I mean I think firstly Yannick's obviously had even though he's
07:08so young he's he's obviously been in these situations many many times you
07:13know I think to be fair you know before Australian Open this year he kept on
07:20getting to the quarterfinals the semifinals and and came unstuck and I
07:26think you know it's all a process you know you have to you have to go through
07:30the losses and the emotions of being there not quite getting it done and you
07:35know maybe maybe it was too much for him at certain times and you know as
07:40players we're constantly being put in situations that sometimes are new to us
07:44so we have to we have to learn how to deal with it I think someone asked me
07:48you know what's what's what do people say it's like well you got to experience
07:53that yourself to understand it better and to know how you react to that
07:58situation I think yeah I think Yannick's got huge experience already and also
08:05yeah I mean the reason why he's number one in the world and you know he's
08:10barely losing matches is because he you know he's so consistent his intensity
08:15his ball speed his he's barely got any weaknesses and he's just able to to be
08:23there point by point and raise his level when he needs to and mentally
08:29physically emotionally everything's you know constantly improving and he's he's
08:33rock-solid in all areas so he's um he's tough to beat we don't have time for two
08:38more gentlemen right here and then Obaldo
08:41Jack Davidson from the Sunday Times what do you feel that you most need to do
08:48apart from just the experience and the passage of time what do you feel that
08:52you need to do maybe make that last step to get to that ultimate level I think
09:01honestly I don't think I need to do anything different I think it's just a
09:07matter of time you know I think I'm constantly trying to improve I've got
09:12great people around me I'm doing all the right things you know like I said
09:17yesterday when I came here last year I was you know 120 in the world I'd barely
09:22played the whole season you know I think I'll I'll be leaving here this week top
09:2720 and you know having continued to achieve you know things that you know
09:33I'm breaking new barriers down the whole time of what I think is possible so you
09:39know I don't think anything anything's gonna just I need to do this and that's
09:45gonna help I think it's more just keep on doing what I'm doing experience you
09:49know for someone like Yannick or Carlos or some of these young players you know
09:55they've they've been on the tour for about three or four years now constantly
10:00playing constantly learning constantly taking wins and losses and experiencing
10:05losing in the quarters or semis of a Grand Slam and you know I'm I'm still
10:11this is my first proper year I'd say because of all my injuries and all my
10:15setbacks and so I'm I'm a few years behind almost so I think I just need to
10:21keep on learning keep on growing keep on you know having situations like today
10:27where I came unstuck and you know how am I gonna do it different next time and
10:32all these types of things and that's the biggest thing I think it is honestly
10:36just the matter of time it's experience it's doing all the right things it's
10:39training consistently and you know over time you just progress and you get
10:43stronger and you get better and hopefully I'll be in these situations
10:47more often I'm able to come through them about the last question UBI
10:54tennis.com congratulation for the great tournament maybe was it too easy the
11:00tournament you had until today because you never had to play tiebreaker never
11:05very long long set maybe once or twice that could have helped you if you had
11:11done it and one thing you say it doesn't have almost any weakness if you have to
11:18point out one weakness of Siner which one would you say today he missed quite
11:23a few forehand yeah and answer the first question I mean just did what I had to do
11:30you know I'm not gonna take it to a tiebreaker we don't need to take to a
11:33tiebreaker or lose a set because I need to lose a set but yeah obviously you
11:40know my run to the to the semis I I didn't feel like I was overly sort of
11:44pushed almost you know I was playing good tennis I felt like you know my
11:48opponents maybe first round guy was injured and then Alex in the in the
11:54quarters was maybe had a niggle and you know not taking anything away from me
11:59because after you have to be the guy in front of you at the end of the day but
12:04no I said I don't know I don't know the answer that question but I suppose sinner
12:10what's one weakness he doesn't he doesn't have many mate and he doesn't
12:17one don't know maybe he's too nice there we go maybe he's too nice thank you
12:24thank you so once pretty good as well I'll tell you that for a fact
12:29you
