Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik has been honoured with the title of Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Business by Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in recognition of his transformative leadership and contributions.  The prestigious accolade was conferred by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong, who is also the chairman of the TARC Education Foundation Board of Trustees, during the TAR UMT convocation ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Sept 7). 00:11on Tun Dr Ling Leong Sik at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology

00:19It is a day of celebration, a day of reflection and a day of anticipation for the future.

00:31But today we also honour an inspiring figure who has been instrumental in shaping the very

00:39foundation upon which our university stands.

00:44It is with great pride and honour that we bestow the title of Honorary Doctor of Philosophy

00:52in Business upon young Ahmad Berbahagia, Tun Dr Ling Leong Sik, who served as the Council

01:01Chairman of the then Tunku Abdul Rahman College from 1986 to 2004.

01:11Tun Ling was also conferred the title of Father of the then TAR College Development in 2004.

01:19This special title was given to Tun Dr Ling Leong Sik for his tremendous contributions

01:26and dedication to the development of this institution in the 18 years he served as the

01:33Council Chairman.

01:35Under his esteemed leadership, many expansion and development plans of the Kuala Lumpur

01:42campus were carried out and the institution established branches in five other states

01:49in Malaysia.

01:50Congratulations and thank you, sir.

01:54Dr Wee said Dr Ling, who served as the Council Chairman of the then TAR College from 1986

02:00to 2004, was bestowed the title of Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Business for his contributions

02:07and dedication to the development of TAR-UMT during his 18 years of service in the institution.

02:14It was also Tun Dr Ling Leong Sik who initiated the Merit Scholarship Scheme in 1997 to promote

02:23and encourage academic excellence among students.

02:27Tun Dr Ling Leong Sik's charismatic leadership also mobilised fundraising efforts to increase

02:35the number of interest-free student loan funds for needy and deserving students to further

02:42their studies in this institution.

02:44Dr Wee said one of Dr Ling's significant legacies is the Merit Scholarship Scheme, launched

02:50in 1997 to foster academic excellence.

02:54We would like to show our heartfelt appreciation to him for his unwavering efforts, guidance

03:02and ardent belief in the potential of every student who walks through the door of TAR-UMT.

03:22Dr Wee added that during Dr Ling's leadership, the Kuala Lumpur campus saw considerable expansion

03:29and development, and TAR College established branches in five additional Malaysian states.
