This is the amazing moment eight lions were spotted lounging in a tree - scouting for fresh prey.

The rare sighting was captured on camera by safari guide Curteis Roberts, 28, during a trip in the Tanzania's Serengeti in May.

Lions climb the trees in part to rest but more importantly to survey the land for food.

At this time of year, a lot of their prey has migrated far away, so lions will use their perch in the trees to look for food from above.

Curteis, a self-employed safari guide from Hoedspruit, South Africa, said: "This is a newer tactic we're seeing from lions in the Serengeti.

00:00Lions in a tree. Not just one, not two, not five, seven lions in a tree and what's so
00:09crazy is that most of them are juveniles so the way they climb this tree is so
00:14amateur and oh there's eight, oh there's eight lions in the tree so there's even more.
02:44I told you, it was inevitable.
03:14There's eight, now there is eight because there's the one behind that one.
03:44Eight lions in one tree and the funniest thing is that most of them are juveniles.
03:59So the way they climb up this tree and down is very amateur.
04:03They're sliding, they're beehiving in the tree and they're also trying to push their
04:08brothers and sisters out of the way.
04:10This is crazy.
04:12Only in this area do you get tree climbing.
04:20Dude, that's interesting.
04:22I think it's going to jump down.
