Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen discusses a short week before heading to Miami to face the Dolphins on Thursday night.

00:00It's good, ready to go.
00:07I mean, it's as comfortable as we can make it.
00:16No, none of that, just trying to be as normal as possible.
00:23Felt like I threw it well today and was able to do all the things, so I'm ready to go.
00:27Have you worn a glove in the past?
00:29I've done it a long time ago, a couple cold games, so it's not anything that's completely new to me,
00:37but just there for a little extra help.
00:42We'll see, I'm not quite sure yet.
00:45So Miami has been a team you guys have had a lot of success against.
00:51What might be different this time around with their defense and what you're seeing so far?
00:56Well, obviously I think they've got a little bit of different personnel than they've had the last few years.
01:01Obviously bringing in a guy like Poe, missed that guy.
01:05He's a leader, he's a leader for them.
01:08He's a very smart player.
01:10He knows a lot about this offense and a lot about me, so taking that into account.
01:15Bringing in a guy like Clayus Campbell, again, veteran leadership, guys that are in the right spot,
01:20doing the right things, and a new D coordinator.
01:23So they're doing a little bit of things differently over there, the type of scheme that they're running,
01:27and they've got some playmakers over there.
01:30Holland's playing some really good football, had a really big play last week.
01:34We all know Jalen Ramsey got paid to the high speed corner in the league for a reason,
01:39so again, they've got some guys over there that we've got to focus on and worry about,
01:43but at the same time, it's a short week, got to focus on what we do best.
01:48I mean, yeah, but I think it's harder to know tendencies on defensive side of the ball,
01:55especially in a new system and a different system than maybe he's used to.
01:59Just got to go off what we see on film and just try to game plan accordingly,
02:04and then during the game we'll adjust.
02:18Yeah, I mean, I think we try to change it if we know for sure people can hear it,
02:24and it's been said enough where guys understand it.
02:28In the heat of the battle, it's tough to do on the defensive side of the ball
02:32to know what the offense is calling, then to relay that to the coach,
02:35then to switch into the right defense or the right personnel for that play.
02:39So again, we just try to focus on what we can do.
02:43We don't really worry about what the other team is going to do
02:45in terms of what we call.
02:48Obviously, we think it's going to be pretty loud there.
02:50It's going to be on silent and making sure that we're relaying the calls to each other.
02:54So I don't know if a defense can get a completely good read on what we're saying,
02:58but it's something we've got to be aware of.
03:00He can help out.
03:01I mean, obviously, he played against that defense in training camp, entire camp,
03:07so leaning on him and utilizing some of his knowledge,
03:11but at the same time, we've still got to go out there and play football.
03:18From a mental perspective, obviously, you're using your hand on every play.
03:21How do you not think about it?
03:23Or how do you approach when something like that's injured,
03:26not putting any focus on it?
03:29I mean, I think they're just saying it's a long way from the heart.
03:33I like to say it's a long way from the right hand, so we're okay.
03:38Lots of success on the road in particular.
03:41In your opinion, what is some of that success?
03:46The way that we're able to communicate, I think our offensive game plan,
03:49schematically the things that we're able to do on a short week
03:53because of the stuff that we've put in through training camp,
03:55the stuff that is in our, I guess, standard game plan that we can call at any time
04:03is pretty exotic, and some of the things that we can do on the ball,
04:06helps us out in that area.
04:13How much more does the offense need to be refined after what we saw on Sunday?
04:18And how close might that be to the blueprint,
04:22getting nine players involved, nine receivers involved?
04:25Might it be to what your vision is?
04:27Yeah, I think that's what we want to see,
04:29is making sure that different guys are getting different touches,
04:32and that means guys are in different spots,
04:34but at the same time doing their job, getting open, catching the ball.
04:38But in terms of operation, we had a bunch of false starts,
04:43and got to clean that up, got to clean up some of the penalties.
04:47Again, getting the play call in as quickly as possible,
04:51especially on the road, and me getting that out to the team
04:54and making adjustments in a timely matter.
04:56So it all goes hand-in-hand, and it takes 11 guys out there
05:00to produce a really good product, and that's what we're trying to do.
05:05How much of your focus is on Dalton?
05:08Quite a bit.
05:09I mean, there's a few plays where he's got four or five guys surrounding him,
05:13so that's nothing new to us in terms of teams trying to take away a weapon.
05:19But again, I think with the mindset that we talked about earlier
05:22about the everybody eats is, you know,
05:25if he's taking away two or three guys, that means somebody's probably open,
05:29and it's my job to go find the open guy.
05:32Who, Dalton?
05:33Yeah.
05:34Oh, he wasn't frustrated at all.
05:35You know, we keep rocking and riding.
05:38He knows his importance of this offense,
05:41and the fact that he's getting other people open
05:43is going to help him down the road, and he does everything the right way.
05:47If you watch him, he's always following the ball.
05:49He's always trying to make an extra block.
05:50He doesn't really care about the catches and the yards and the touchdowns.
05:52He just cares about winning, and that's why we love him.
05:58Really good.
05:59There was one mishap on my fault.
06:01One of the protections that, you know,
06:03got us into something that we shouldn't have been in,
06:05and fortunately James made us right and made a good catch on third down.
06:09But I thought the communication throughout the entire game was fantastic,
06:12and he's doing a great job.
06:18Very happy for him.
06:20More importantly, happy for myself, you know,
06:23knowing that what he brings to this offense
06:25and the mentality that he has and, you know,
06:29the story that he has, too, I think is pretty special.
06:32You know, battling a few things the last few years
06:34and how hard he continuously works at trying to perfect his craft,
06:39and on top of that, the love and the fight that he has for his teammates
06:43is pretty special.
06:46Yeah, you know, that's one of the reasons why we brought him here
06:49is to go win in times like that and make big-time catches,
06:53and, you know, he's been working extremely hard.
06:56And again, he loves this game, and I think that's the most important thing.
06:59He loves this game.
07:00He loves being here, even as a rookie.
07:02You know, I'm here late obviously rehabbing a little bit,
07:05and he's still here.
07:06He's one of the last ones to leave this building.
07:08He just loves being in here, and when you find yourself in good positions,
07:11you typically make plays like that when you work hard,
07:14and he's been working extremely hard.
07:15What sort of sense do you have for the way the rivalry has been rekindled
07:18among fans between the Bills and the Dolphins
07:20with both teams being competitors and in contention?
07:22Yeah, it's good for the sport.
07:24You know, the AFC East is a tough division.
07:28We know that.
07:29I think everybody knows that, and to win this division,
07:32you've got to beat your in-division teams and rivals,
07:35and that's how we see it.
07:36So we've got to just try to find a way to go 1-0, whatever way that may be.
07:41But he knows a lot of what you guys do.
07:43You spend a lot of time with him.
07:44Yeah, I mean, I've got a lot of love for him,
07:46so it's going to be fun first and foremost.
07:49I think, you know, going against really good competitors
07:54and really good players, it brings out the best in people.
07:57But at the same time, like, there's going to be some friendly jabs,
08:01and, you know, hopefully I just don't let him tackle me
08:05or the other word, I won't even say it.
08:07So, you know, it's fun to go against guys that you have a lot of love
08:11and respect for, and I've got a lot of love and respect for him.
08:14We spend a lot of time together here in Buffalo the last six years,
08:17and again, he's one of the best to ever put on a Bill's uniform.
08:22Josh, what do you normally watch at night as far as football?
08:25Do you normally watch it?
08:26Do you normally?
08:27Oh, yeah, I watch it all.
08:30Fitz Magic, that's what I know about it.
08:32I don't know if you guys saw his most recent tweets,
08:34someone showed me it.
08:35It was a beauty, so if you've got time, go check that out.
08:39What did it say?
08:40It wasn't really what it said.
08:41It was the picture of what it was.
08:45He's a special cat.
08:46Love him.
08:47Thank you, guys.
08:48Go Bills.
