00:00Yeah, I think, you know, sometimes it's referred to as a game of inches.
00:10It's exactly what it came down to.
00:12Just a couple inches on a few different throws
00:14that could have drastically changed the game
00:16and would be talking a different tune this morning.
00:20But, you know, that's how the game goes sometimes.
00:22We're going to continue to keep working
00:24and I've got to find ways to be better for this team.
00:28There are questions about the new look we're seeing
00:32already on whatever that game was.
00:36What gives you confidence in knowing that this group can come together
00:40and perform at the level it was the first three weeks
00:43as opposed to how things have been going the past week?
00:47Because we've shown it before in the first couple weeks
00:50and, you know, had a great training camp.
00:52And the group of guys that we have in this room are special.
00:56They work hard, you know, and they're smart football players.
01:01And I've got no doubt and I've got a lot of trust in these guys.
01:03So we're just going to keep our head down
01:05and focus on the process more than the result.
01:07I know the result hasn't been great the last couple weeks.
01:09But, you know, that's the name of the game.
01:12That's why we play.
01:13Go out there and test our strengths against their strengths
01:15and figure out what our weakness is on and continue to work on those.
01:20So that's what we're going to continue to do.
01:21How important is it to your team?
01:24Very important.
01:26You know, it's – you know, we talk about everyone eats
01:29and it's fine and dandy when everybody is,
01:31but sometimes there's people that are left out
01:34and you want to continue to incorporate them in your offense.
01:36And he's been one guy that we've got to get going.
01:38And we know that.
01:39Joe knows that.
01:40I think the whole team knows that.
01:42And we're better when ADA is playing well.
01:46Again, just finding ways to get guys the ball
01:48and open space and it starts with me.
01:52How do you get Dawson going and not like almost force it,
01:56like over correct, if you will?
01:59Yeah, I mean, I think that's a good question.
02:03But maybe getting back to our base stuff that we ran in training camp
02:07and just trusting what we call
02:11and not trying to be so much in the perfect position
02:14and just trusting what our guys can do.
02:16And that's kind of as simple as we want to make it.
02:19And, you know, we had a lot of guys
02:21with a lot of different skill sets on this team
02:23and we want to utilize everybody's talents.
02:25And he's definitely a talented player that we've got to utilize.
02:27You said get back to the base stuff.
02:30How much does it help that you have a long history with Dawson?
02:33It helps a lot.
02:34It helps a lot.
02:35I know him as a player, as a person that pays dividends on the field.
02:38And, you know, I've got, again, the utmost trust in him as a player
02:45and as a person.
02:47So, again, I've got no worries of what we are going to do
02:51and how we're going to get better.
02:53And, again, he's just another guy that works hard and doesn't complain.
02:56And we're going to find ways to get him in good positions
03:00to have opportunities to make some plays for us.
03:02And when the opportunities are there, he's going to make the plays.
03:04And if they're not there,
03:07that means someone else has an opportunity to make a play for us.
03:10So that's how we're addressing that right now.
03:13Josh, follow up on Josh.
03:15Even though it's been five games yet,
03:17is it still a discovery stage every week?
03:19I think so, yeah.
03:20It's hard to know everybody.
03:23And, obviously, with Khalil going down last week,
03:27guys stepping into that role, having Shave up in the lineup.
03:32It just takes time.
03:33And, you know, understanding that
03:35and trusting, again, the process and going out there and practicing
03:39and working hard more so than what has happened over the last couple weeks
03:43because I know what type of guys we have in this locker room
03:46and the type of players that we have.
03:48And, ultimately, it comes down to us going out there and executing.
03:51Even in the first game, you think you were moving the ball in the first half.
03:57And then in the first three games total, you were moving the ball.
04:00What do you attribute to slow starts and the lack of production in the first half,
04:05halves of the past two games?
04:07Well, I've got to be better.
04:08Ball placement.
04:09And, again, a couple of throws that I wish I could have had back this last game.
04:13But just making sure that we're on the same page
04:16and it starts with the quarterback and that's on me.
04:19So, again, just trying to find ways this next week of sustaining drives,
04:24being better on third down, staying out of some of these third and long situations.
04:28But, one, protecting myself.
04:30Two, not taking sacks and getting the ball out of my hands
04:34as quickly as possible when the times present itself.
04:37How is your head?
04:38A lot of people still have expressed concern that maybe something went wrong.
04:43How is your head?
04:44Yeah, I obviously went into the tent, and I can only control what I can control.
04:48And what we talked about there, they deemed me cleared to play,
04:52and that's kind of what happened.
04:54So that's as deep as I'll get into it.
04:56Obviously, you know the Jets very well.
04:59They've ranked in the top two in past defense three years in a row now.
05:02Just what do you think about the challenge of attacking their secondary especially?
05:06Yeah, they play really hard-nosed football.
05:10Their front is very talented.
05:12They've got some talented players in the back end as well.
05:15A really good linebacker duo.
05:19So they're a tough defense to play against.
05:23Number one, I think establishing the run
05:25and making sure that we can try to commit to that.
05:28And then, again, being smart with where the football is going,
05:31how quickly we get it out of our hands.
05:33And I think, you know, going back to last year's game here,
05:38it was a good tell of just like, hey,
05:40when the opportunities present itself downfield, great.
05:42But if not, let's get the ball to our playmakers' hands.
05:45And I thought we ran it well last year against them.
05:48But it wasn't like this crazy 300-yard run or pass game.
05:52It was just kind of a good balanced attack
05:54that we're going to have to utilize going forward,
05:56and especially against this team
05:58because they're playing some really good football right now.
06:02A little turbulence right now, a couple losses in a row.
06:04What's the message you're making sure that the guys understand inside?
06:07Yeah, just staying together.
06:08And I think we have enough guys from this team that were here last year,
06:14knowing where we were last year, right, 5-5,
06:17and had to win so many games to get into the playoffs.
06:20And, you know, there's a good perspective, right?
06:23Joe talked about, you know, we could have been 0-2
06:26and gotten a three-game win streak,
06:27and now we're feeling on top of the world.
06:29You know, as we started 3-0
06:30and we've lost the last two against two good teams,
06:33you know, you can find yourself questioning things.
06:36But we're just sticking together, sticking to the game plan,
06:40and, again, just trusting the process.
06:42Josh, you guys are going up against a team that has a fire inside the coach,
06:45especially considering the slow starts for your team the last couple weeks.
06:49What are the conversations this week amongst you guys
06:51about sort of matching that sense of urgency that they're going to have?
06:55Yeah, I mean, I think it's a tough situation to be in, right,
07:00when a team fires their coach
07:02because you're not sure how they're going to react to that.
07:05My sense is they're going to be prepared to go Monday night.
07:10So we're going to have to handle every shot that they throw at us
07:13and keep getting back up and moving forward.
07:16So, yeah, have to have a great sense of urgency, get off to a hot start
07:20and find ways, like I said, to stay on the field on third down
07:23and score touchdowns when we're down in the red zone.
07:26When a game's like hanging in the balance, late-game situations,
07:31you've been with Sean for so long,
07:33put a lot of this last game on himself for that last sequence.
07:36How much trust do you have in him?
07:38I've got supreme trust, and, you know,
07:40it says a lot of how much trust he has in me down there in that situation,
07:45and I've got to find a way to convert.
07:47Shane, for you, last night against a new head coach,
07:50I mean, obviously there's things they do well.
07:52They'll probably continue to do that, but they might change some things up.
07:55How do you guys prepare differently, if at all?
07:57Yeah, we have a good week of practice.
07:59We game plan well.
08:02You know, I don't expect them to change everything about them,
08:05but just sticking to our base rules and trusting the eyes
08:08and trusting what Joe's calling and going out there and executing.
08:11Thank you, guys.
