00:00But before we get to things going on, on the field in the NFL, we take care of the story
00:06that has been going on now for three days off the field.
00:09The very latest on this incident that happened with Tyreek Hill in the Miami-Dade Police
00:12Department takes yet another turn as Hill is calling for a police officer who was involved
00:18in the incident to be fired.
00:20You saw the incident I'm sure on social media and you saw the video and of course, well,
00:24he is asking that the police officer who was involved in the incident be fired.
00:29His attorney, Julius Collins, released a statement on Tuesday night demanding the immediate
00:34termination of the escalating officer who was placed on administrative leave as a result
00:39of Sunday's incident.
00:41The officer who has been identified as 27-year-old Danny Torres was one of several officers when
00:47Hill was pulled over.
00:48They said that Hill was uncooperative.
00:50Body cam footage released Monday showed that after an altercation, Hill was instructed
00:55to exit his vehicle.
00:56Ultimately, he was forced to leave his vehicle and then Torres was redirecting him, as you
01:03could say, to the ground.
01:05But needless to say, we just are hitting the tip of the iceberg with this story as it looks
01:09like a lawsuit probably would be coming, I would guess, from Tyreek Hill.
01:13Meanwhile, what is going on with this Bet365, this company who certainly has been around
01:18for a really long time.
01:19They had a wager on Monday night that involved Jordan Mason of the San Francisco 49ers and
01:25essentially decided to void a lot of the wagers because the odds simply changed as
01:30he became the starting running back in the game.
01:32And I want to dive more into this coming up a little bit later in the show.
01:36We will talk, of course, with Matthew Waters from Legal Sports Report.
01:39We'll dive in more and get into it as well.
01:41Also, the Miami Dolphins made an announcement just a short time ago.
01:45Raheem Mostert, their starting running back, along with Devon Aitchen, they both play.
01:50Mostert is going to miss Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Bills.
01:54So he is out.
01:55Mike McDaniel just made the announcement.
01:57It looks like Jalen Wright will get an opportunity to play.
02:00Aitchen, by the way, is questionable going into the game.
02:03He will be a game-time decision.
02:05So keep an eye on that as we do the show tomorrow.
02:08Meanwhile, the NCAA is facing another lawsuit.
02:10This is $50 million in the form of class action.
02:13These are former Michigan players who played at a very high level for the Wolverines, in
02:17fact, one of them on the cover of a college football game, Denarb Robinson.
02:22You may remember him from many years ago.
02:24Also, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, they filed a class action lawsuit against the NCAA
02:28and Big Ten, seeking $50 million for being wrongfully and unlawfully denied their opportunity
02:35to earn money off their NIL, their name, image, and likeness.
02:38The lawsuit says that the NCAA and the Big Ten Network have systemically exploited these
02:42iconic moments that the players created during their careers at Michigan.
02:46The lawsuit on behalf of those who played for Michigan before 2016, of course, NILs
02:52into play in 2021.
02:55So that is the latest in the NFL and the latest on the Miami Dolphins as well.
02:59As far as running backs are concerned, Raheem Mostert, not the only one who could potentially
03:04miss a game coming up this week.
03:05It looks like Christian McCaffrey could miss another game.
03:08His Achilles injury right now seems to be bothering him.
03:12In a conference call, Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey would be monitored on a day-to-day basis.
03:19McCaffrey had said that if it was a playoff game that perhaps McCaffrey could play,
03:24but Jordan Mason played so well in his absence.
03:27The thought is Mason will play yet again this week, but we'll see.
03:32You never know.
03:32I mean, we didn't know going into the Monday night game.
03:34We don't know going into this week as well.
03:36Derek Brown out for the year with a knee injury.
03:38He was placed on injured reserve.
03:40You heard about this injury coming off that game against the Saints.
03:43So Carolina picking up the pieces as well.
03:45The defendant in the Ricky Pearsall shooting, Ricky Pearsall, wide receiver for San Francisco,
03:50faces three criminal charges.
03:53The most of which is, of course, attempted murder.
03:56His lawyer is hoping that a video of the incident will help on that charge.
04:00And the footage is being shared with prosecutors at the moment.
04:04Meanwhile, this other case that's coming in now against Deshaun Watson
04:09is a review of a 2020 sexual assault case.
04:12And the NFL is looking into the complaint.
04:14Needless to say, this is separate from any of these other massage cases
04:18that came up previously that caused Watson to miss a lot of time.
04:22Watsons do a lot of money.
04:23Who knows if these two things are correlated?
04:25But needless to say, the NFL is looking into this latest incident as well.
04:29All right.
04:29Weather is going to be a factor in the Southeast this weekend
04:32as a hurricane has its eye on Louisiana and the South.
04:36Now, meanwhile, it will not affect any games going on in all likelihood in Louisiana on Saturday
04:43because the hurricane will push through there.
04:44But South Carolina is now in focus as they take on LSU.
04:49With the Gamecocks getting seven points,
04:50there's a chance that that game may have to be moved.
04:53Now, no word on where it will be moved to or when or anything.
04:55There's some historical context here.
04:58Sometimes they move games to Sunday morning due to a hurricane.
05:02Maybe that is the case here.
05:03Auburn senior quarterback Peyton Thornton on Tuesday said criticism after losses,
05:07especially the one that California has included people asking him for money on Venmo.
05:13You know those Venmo requests that you've probably gotten before.
05:15People are hitting up this quarterback saying,
05:17you lost me money.
05:18Send me money via Venmo.
05:19Here's a tip for anybody who's complaining about this.
05:22Make your account private.
05:23You never have to get a request ever again.
05:25Private.
05:26Easy to do.
05:28I'm private on Venmo myself.
05:30Riley Leonard, quarterback of Notre Dame,
05:32re-injured his labrum on his non-throwing shoulder against Northern Illinois.
05:36And he went and undergoed an MRI on his left shoulder,
05:40and he's expected to play against Purdue.
05:42Got that outright wrong.
05:43I don't know if I said it right.
05:45SMU's coach Rhett Lashley said Tuesday Kevin Jennings
05:48is going to start a quarterback moving forward.
05:50Preston Stone started the first three games of the season.
05:52Lashley said throughout the preseason he would play Stone and Jennings.
05:56So a change coming for SMU as well.
05:58Not a huge surprise there.
05:59All right.
06:00Now over to Major League Baseball.
06:01Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
06:03He is back.
06:03He returned to the mound.
06:05And they were hoping, of course, that he gets fully healthy for the postseason.
06:08The Cubs beat the Dodgers 6-3.
06:10But the important thing is that he threw fastballs at 96 miles an hour.
06:13So Yamamoto is going to be back for the Dodgers.
06:15Only a couple of weeks to go in the season.
06:16And then he's going to start a game in the postseason.
06:18Probably game two, game three would be my guess.
06:21Kyle Schwarber said the Major League Baseball season record
06:26for home runs from a leadoff hitter.
06:28He had his 14th leadoff home run on Tuesday against the Rays.
06:32He hyperextended his left elbow.
06:34So we'll have to keep an eye on that.
06:36But what an incredible record.
06:37Phillies beat the Rays 9-4.
06:38There's also a bench-clearing non-brawl in that game as well,
06:42if you want to go back and watch it on video.
06:44Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers, you know, they're not completely out of it.
06:47I mean, any team that wins a few in a row can jump back in it.
06:50And so in addition to Kamar Rocker being called up,
06:53Jacob deGrom is coming back.
06:54Max Scherzer is coming back.
06:56Both are expected to join the Rangers rotation, at least for the end of the season.
07:00We'll see if it makes a difference for them.
07:02But again, the Rangers several games back of a wild card spot.
07:05And Orioles win.
07:07Yankees lose.
07:08I mean, this is going on every night.
07:09So now Baltimore is a half game back in the American League.
07:12He will probably play this game for the rest of the season.
07:15All right.
07:15There's an ex-Suns employee that is seeking $60 million in damages
07:20in a discrimination complaint.
07:22And this is a former employee who is claiming discrimination
07:25and wrongful termination seeking $60 million in damages.
07:29This is a 25-page statement that was released.
07:32In August 2024, Andrea Trishan is the ex-employee.
07:36She was the Suns program manager of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
07:41She filed it with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
07:44We'll keep an eye on that in the future.
07:46NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday,
07:48there wasn't a discussion of expansion just yet,
07:51but it will be addressed at some point this season.
07:54We know that the NBA wants to add at least two more teams
07:59to the league in the next couple of years.
08:02Also, they expanded the coaches' challenge reviews
08:04on out-of-bounds play for the upcoming season.
08:07So that could have affected a playoff game
08:09that we saw a mistake happen this past postseason.
08:11We'll see how it helps in the regular season.
08:13And also tonight in the WNBA,
08:15Kaitlin Clark and the Aces with a fever back at it.
08:18Aces are three and a half point favorites.
08:20Total are 178, fever plus 134 on the money line.
08:25And of course, the most important story from the day
08:28as we honor the lives that were lost on September 11th, 2001.
08:34A day that we should never forget.
08:37Thoughts and prayers to all of them.
08:39Welcome back to Newswire here on SportsGrid.
08:42We got Matthew Waters with us from Legal Sports Report.
08:44I mean, let's be honest,
08:45one of the bigger stories coming out of week one in the NFL.
08:49I mean, so many people play fantasy football these days.
08:51To sit here and ignore it is silly.
08:53This kid Jordan Mason,
08:54who played for Christian McCaffrey in the game,
08:57it was the big story of Monday night football.
09:00So much so, Matthew Waters is with us.
09:02I'm playing, of course, fantasy football.
09:04One league in the Dynasty League.
09:05I have McCaffrey.
09:06I don't have Mason.
09:07Somebody else has Mason.
09:09We're going back and forth on the train.
09:10I mean, everyone is playing that game today.
09:13But what happened on Monday night,
09:16it took another turn that we want to get into,
09:18Matt, here on the show,
09:18because I want to dive into this deep.
09:21So all of the sports book have the odds here
09:24on how much Mason will play.
09:25Will he score?
09:26How many carries will he get?
09:28I mean, this is why the sports books are making so much money
09:32because they could offer all of these exotic props
09:35that nobody's interested in at all.
09:37But somebody was interested over on Bet365
09:40on the over on Jordan Mason's rushing yards.
09:43What happened here, Matt?
09:45Did they not want to pay the odds
09:47that they initially put up?
09:48What happened?
09:49Yeah, you know, this is a tricky situation, Craig.
09:53Basically, what happened is Jordan Mason,
09:56his line for rushing yards was set at 13.5 on Bet365.
10:01And, you know, it's not crazy that people went on
10:04and decided to bet on the backup running back
10:07for San Francisco when, you know,
10:08we've been hearing all of last week
10:10and throughout preseason, how CMC was hurt, right?
10:14So not surprised that people took this bet.
10:17The problem is, is that 13 and a half yard line
10:20was up after CMC was announced as out.
10:26And I'm not sure how long it was up,
10:28but it was up enough that some people jumped on it as well.
10:32So you have these betters that, you know,
10:34they either they bet before they bet after the news
10:36and they're thinking, you know, great, we're in.
10:38Then some emails were sent out saying,
10:40look, this was an obvious error
10:42to have this line listed at minus 110.
10:46And Bet365 said that they would be paying out those bets
10:49at minus 5,000 odds.
10:52That is not really how it's supposed to work.
10:56You know, we have situations in the United States.
11:00Obviously, we have different rules all across the board.
11:02And Bet365 is an international company first.
11:06And in international jurisdictions
11:08and in some US jurisdictions,
11:10operators are allowed to void bets
11:13that are obvious mistakes.
11:15They call them palps, right?
11:17That can happen if maybe a game isn't taken off
11:22after it starts.
11:23You know, the pregame money line is still up.
11:25There's a lot of situations where that can happen.
11:27Some places let you just wipe it out.
11:30Some places like New Jersey do not let you just wipe it out.
11:34You need regulator approval to go back
11:37and change anything to do with any bets.
11:41And so we found out that on Tuesday morning,
11:45Bet365 had reversed its course.
11:48And it said, you know,
11:49look, we're sorry for any confusion about that.
11:51I don't think anybody was confused.
11:52I think what happened was Bet365 said they were doing this,
11:55and then they changed their mind.
11:57But, you know, frame it under confusion, that's fine.
12:00The important thing is that these people
12:02are getting paid out for the bets that they placed.
12:04But it is a headache here for Bet365
12:08because this isn't the first situation
12:10that they've had issues with this.
12:12And it's a bad look, right?
12:14It's just simply a bad look
12:17when you have so many sports books to choose from.
12:20And you're betting with Bet365
12:23because you know that they have
12:24a great international reputation.
12:26You get a bet that you think is, you know,
12:29good for you, right?
12:30I got one.
12:31And then it's backed out to minus 5,000 bets.
12:35It's not a good look.
12:36They got a lot of heat on social media about it.
12:39It spread very quickly.
12:40And, you know, just hours later, they were backing out of it.
12:45So it went the right way.
12:48But it was a shame to see this from Bet365
12:51because this isn't the first time, Craig.
12:54Yeah, yeah.
12:55I mean, it's really, for me, super disappointing
12:59because anybody who bets on sports knows,
13:02and especially when you're making bets like this,
13:04the odds of you personally getting over
13:08on a sports book with a bad line,
13:10I mean, what is it?
13:11One in 100, one in 1,000, one in 10,000.
13:14And so the one time you get over
13:17for them making a mistake on a bad line
13:20or not adjusting it quickly,
13:22they're not going to let you take advantage of that.
13:24Horrible, horrible look, I thought personally for Bet365.
13:28Every once in a while you take an L,
13:30they'll build another app
13:32on all the money you lose in the future.
13:34I mean, understand it, get with it, folks.
13:36I mean, this is the way it works.
13:37Silly, silly company here making that decision.
13:40Meanwhile, another fine for them
13:42along the same lines in New Jersey.
13:43What happened here?
13:45Yeah, and we just reported on this yesterday, Craig.
13:48Bet365 has now twice in the last two months,
13:51it was in July and then again in August,
13:54that they were fined for doing just this in New Jersey
13:58for changing bets after the fact
14:02without New Jersey's permission.
14:06And they're not happy about that.
14:08New Jersey is not happy about that,
14:11that this is a consistent issue for Bet365
14:14because we're not talking about a small sports book here
14:17that doesn't have the money or the capacity
14:20to make sure that all of their markets are correct.
14:23Bet365 is potentially the biggest regulated sports book
14:28in the world.
14:30They make money hand over fist.
14:32It's owned privately by Diane Coates in the UK.
14:37They're not hurting for money.
14:38They're not hurting for resources.
14:41And yet now they've been fined,
14:44I think it's about 550,000
14:46over these two different fines from New Jersey
14:50for changing bets after they have been placed
14:55and after they should have settled without New Jersey Gaming
14:58and the Attorney General's office oversees that.
15:00We reached out to them as well.
15:01And they did not comment on whether Bet365
15:04would be facing some kind of backlash
15:07or some kind of fine that they have to pay
15:10for doing this with Mason.
15:13Because remember, it's not that they said,
15:15well, we might...
15:16No, they sent out the email saying,
15:18we are going to settle these bets this way.
15:23And so we can't say, you know,
15:25oh, they came to their senses and decided not to do it.
15:28Well, no, they did do it.
15:29And maybe somebody said,
15:30hey, wait a minute, remember how Jersey said
15:33that we can't do this again?
15:35And, you know, you would love to know
15:37what those conversations,
15:38what the Slack channel looked like
15:40when in those waning hours of Tuesday morning.
15:44I don't know if I'm New Jersey
15:45and I have specifically said now,
15:48don't do this again.
15:50And they do it again.
15:52I'm coming back with a fine,
15:54even though they decided against it.
15:57It's, you know, it's a black eye enough,
16:00like you said, Craig,
16:02with the Mason issue.
16:03But now we're looking at this being a repeated issue
16:08and not just a repeated issue,
16:09but something that they did after being clearly told
16:14by one of the best regulators in the US,
16:17don't do it again,
16:19we will take further action against you.
16:22So we're clearly going to be watching this.
16:25It takes some time for these issues
16:28to work their way through the DG.
16:30So I don't know when we would get an answer on it,
16:33if we ever do it all, you know, right?
16:34I guess if we go two years
16:36without hearing about them getting fined,
16:37then they didn't get fined.
16:38But I can't see the DG being too happy about this.
16:42Yeah, yeah.
16:43I mean, what's so odd about this story
16:45is that other sports books
16:46are giving out money for bad beats,
16:49and these people get beat bad and won't accept it.
16:53It's so strange to see this.
16:55And you're right.
16:56Public relations is a big part of this.
16:58They get an F for that.
17:00All right, let's talk real quick.
17:01We got a minute to go here on some stock updates,
17:03some target updates here on a sports book.
17:06Give us the latest here.
17:07Sorry, running out of time.
17:0830 seconds.
17:09Yeah, you know what?
17:09Head over to LSR to check this out.
17:11We touched on the note.
17:12Basically, some of the gaming stocks
17:14are being tweaked down by analysts
17:18over consumer spending habits,
17:19but the NFL season should really help
17:21the digital portions of those stocks
17:23is the gist of it, Craig.
17:25Yeah, we ran out of time.
17:26So head over to legalsportsreport.com
17:28to read about that story
17:29and a whole lot more.
17:29Matt, thanks for the insight on the show today.
17:31We'll talk again soon.
17:32Thanks, sir.
