00:00No, this is not the new iPhone 16 Pro everyone's buzzing about this is a hologram
00:07It's made possible by proto hologram a company leading the way in interactive hologram communication
00:13Proto holograms CEO David must bomb with us now. Welcome to cheddar, sir. Good to see you. Hey Dave. This is great
00:21Thanks for having me here. I
00:24Couldn't be there. So I beamed in you are in California. Where are you?
00:29Yeah, we're in Van Nuys
00:30So I'm just about 3,000 miles away from you and I'm beaming in when you can't be there
00:34You could beam in and and so that's what we're doing. This is a proto M
00:38tabletop unit and
00:40We can beam anybody anywhere anytime and now I get to beam into your show, which is kind of cool
00:45This is incredible got a little Star Trek vibe going on here. But what is proto a
00:52Proto is the world's first spatial computing platform that doesn't require a headset
00:57It's like VR without having to put on anything
01:00Everybody can see it. Everybody can interact with it and it gives you the
01:05Supernatural ability to beam anybody anywhere
01:09Anytime for any reason and so it gives people
01:14Opportunities to connect with other people from around the world in times when they couldn't physically do it like doctors are beaming into hospitals
01:22Teachers are beaming into schools and now I'm beaming onto the show and that's what this that's what this technology does
01:28It is really incredible that the difference to me and I've done a thousand zooms and zoom interviews
01:34Is that it feels like you're here this this is a much
01:39superior form of engaging conversation David
01:43Thank you. Yes
01:45The idea behind proto is that you want to create as much real presence as possible
01:50my background is in broadcasting and I thought what if instead of
01:54Talking into a microphone and hearing your voice come out of a speaker instead of looking in to a television camera and seeing your face
02:00On a screen. What if I could broadcast you?
02:02What if I could beam you somewhere and what if I could beam you into unlimited places simultaneously?
02:06And so that's what we've developed here proto. It's kind of great
02:10I can imagine this being very effective in a boardroom because if someone's
02:15Zooming into a room of ten or twelve or even fifty or a hundred it's very difficult to command that room
02:21Is that a potential application that's being used today?
02:26Absolutely when a person beams in somewhere
02:29there is a
02:30There isn't an emotional and physical connection that physically exists when a person is actually there
02:35and so proto and the shadows and the reflections the reflection on the floor and my volumetric presence creates the
02:42Effect that I'm I'm actually there in the room, even though I stand only about 14 inches tall today
02:47I appear like I'm actually there
02:50Honesty trust of matters body language nonverbal cues really tell the story
02:56Especially when there is a lot to talk about it's a combination of Star Trek and Willy Wonka Mike TV David TV today
03:03I love that. I love the mime action you guys were at fanatics
03:09Allowing people to take a photograph if you will of famous athletes from various sports, how does that work?
03:16So you could scan anybody so you can either beam somebody in live
03:20Which is what I'm doing today, or you could scan somebody
03:24Pre-record their essence and then play them back inside of any one of our displays. You can also capture their AI
03:31Persona that becomes really engaging especially when somebody can't physically beam in but at
03:37Fanatics we took some of the world's most famous athletes from from Major League Soccer and and football and
03:45And all the different sports and fans got to engage with them fans got to talk to them
03:50We got to take selfies and and and be with their
03:54Favorite players. These are great shareable moments. This isn't something that we typically do at at
04:00you know at at these events and at these
04:04Experiential types of
04:06Programs proto is it is a technology that is being used in boardrooms in hospitals
04:12you know in malls and
04:14These fan experiences are a lot of fun to do. In fact, we're doing one this weekend at
04:20The sphere with Dana White and the athletes who are fighting on the card that night
04:26So this is going to be next level
04:28I couldn't have imagined this was gonna actually happen when it conceived of this idea a few years ago in my living room and now
04:35We're gonna have holograms of some of the world's most famous athletes at the at the sphere this weekend
04:41Also, it's being used in museums with art around the world. Tell us about that
04:47You know, we don't just beam people places we can now beam billions of dollars worth of art around the world figure
04:54This right. So Christie's is a great example Christie's auction houses around the world. They spend so much money
05:00I don't even want to know how much it costs just for the insurance premiums alone to send a
05:0570 million dollar Giacometti statue on a
05:08Road show prior to auction
05:09But now you could beam from the safety and security of their own individual showrooms into all Christie's locations prior to auction
05:18More people see it. So more people could bid on it and there's no potential damage that may happen when you're going on a very
05:25Expensive bad for the environment and potentially damaging roadship
05:29Okay, you mentioned where this is today. Where could it be ten years from now? Could this be in everyone's home everyone's office?
05:38Yeah, we're working on so we started out with the proto epic which is the seven foot tall unit
05:43So if you're six foot three you appear six foot three, we've shrunk it down into this
05:47Mike TV Charlie and the Chocolate Factory version the proto em
05:52Not just ten years time
05:54I think gives me a year and a half or two years time this device or similar looking version will be sub
06:01$1,000 and I think this is what's gonna be not just in boardrooms
06:04I think this is what's gonna be in everybody's living room. I was gonna say I can imagine every grandparent around the world
06:10This is an entirely new way to really feel like you're in the room with your grandchild
06:16Are we just communicating over a Wi-Fi line?
06:20Yeah, this is just Wi-Fi I started proto in my living room as a means of
06:25my parents are both in their 80s and they live in New Jersey and
06:28My children at the time when I started this my daughters were three and four years old now
06:32I have three children under ten and I was trying to get them to communicate with each other on zoom or on a
06:39On a FaceTime and you just can't hold up a phone and say hey, you know Lucy get to know grandma Joyce on a phone
06:45They're like, what is this thing? Is this a video? I don't quite know what this is. So now
06:49They beam into each other's homes
06:51we have a proto em in our living room and
06:53My parents have a proto em in their kitchen and using just an iPhone
06:57They beam into each other's homes my kids and my parents know each other like they are living next door to each other
07:04And that's really what this technology solves. It's you know, the the
07:09There's no communication gap and there's no distance
07:12It solves a lot of problems and I can imagine if you have a doctor's appointment with so many of us do
07:19Virtually now you could literally show someone a bruise or a condition and maybe never need to visit the doctor's office
07:28Doctors like at West Cancer Centers right now doctors are beaming from Memphis into the most rural areas in Tennessee
07:34And so patients and doctors are communicating like never before
07:38And in other places in the world in India and in other locations some of the most rural remote locations in the world
07:46Patients are beaming into hospitals into the big cities where doctors are and that's really important. So it's not just for
07:54Learning and entertainment. It's also
07:58Healthcare, it's very very it's a it's a great for the environment. It's great for
08:03This kind of relationship between doctors and patients Dave Dave one second. I'm actually hearing I let me I let me step out for a second
08:10I'll be right back. Hang on
08:12Not that this doesn't well, I'll just I'll just hold this place until he gets back
08:18Howie Mandel
08:20I'm Howie Mandel. I'm the actual Howie Mandel. Is this the real Howie Mandel or am I being fooled?
08:27You you look like how I don't know. I'm here. This is how I this is how I want to
08:33Live the rest of my life in a proto hologram. I don't want to be anywhere anymore
08:40I want to be everywhere all the time without being able to be touched
08:45You are a notorious germaphobe. Is that why you found interest in proto?
08:52Can I be honest with you? So I live online and I a couple of years ago
08:57I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw this technology and I DM
09:03David and I said I I need to be involved. I need to be I need to do this
09:08I need to you don't have to pay me
09:10I just want to be part of this technology because I think this is next level and
09:15as it turns out
09:17I met with David and then I ended up investing in the company and I ended up being really involved and I share
09:24Office space with them and this is how I do shows I can be in
09:29Well, I could be on your show and wherever there is any one of these all at the same time and all day long
09:36I live as a hologram. I do whether I'm on chatter with you or you know, they just this is a lot of fun
09:43They put one in at GFP Airport
09:45So I just bother people when they land and have them open up their luggage and look at me
09:52this is the only way I'll go to a doctor's office right now and
09:57This is the way I talk to my kids and I've been married 44 years and this is the way I'm keeping my marriage going
10:03She thinks she likes me better as a hologram than to actually be in the house with her that is truly remarkable
10:12Could you do shows could comedians do shows could Taylor Swift do a concert here?
10:18Not only can I do shows not only have I done concerts in more than one location at once
10:24But the most amazing part of this and this is what I say to everybody
10:28I remember the first time I got my iPhone and I thought oh my god
10:31this is the most amazing phone and then I thought then I saw oh I could put my pictures on it and then I saw
10:37I couldn't compute on it. And the last thing I do is a phone call
10:40This is the easiest thing that I can do sit and talk to you and really be on this show
10:45But more importantly like I'll give you an example. I just showed my buddies. I just I just
10:51signed a deal with
10:52Skechers and I'm not here to advertise sketches, but I'm telling you I did and
10:57Skechers is the number three shoe brand all over the world. And I said listen you sign me to be an ambassador
11:04Just locally domestically just in North America
11:07But and I showed them this David was you could just record me
11:12This could be a tape but it isn't this is live, but you could record me for two minutes
11:16Once they have me talking for just two minutes and my image I could be on the screen
11:22The AI advancement in this company is above and beyond I can have this conversation with you in
11:29Spanish in Japanese in Chinese and it is my voice totally lip-sync in the way that I would do it the the
11:38Implementation of this technology what you're looking at now and what you're talking to is just so low-level
11:44But I can do this almost in real time in any language in any country
11:50Simultaneously and it is me
11:52It's not somebody dubbing me at the same time as you're watching this
11:57graphics could be on the screen interactive graphics that people could actually scan and
12:03you know take the information by the
12:06product, you know, we did a
12:09Partnership with Universal where Olivia Rodrigo when she dropped her last album partnered with Target and she was in a Target store
12:17She was in New York, but she was in Target stores here in LA
12:20The the fans went nuts because this is a real live meet-and-greet and they were buying their products
12:26They're scanning and downloading and streaming her music at real time and buying her merch. I can have my
12:33Kids, I'm a grandparent
12:34I could I could have my kids meet my family in Canada in real time and the beauty is on this side
12:41This thing that you're looking at right now is a small one and really right now
12:45They're about six grand which is really affordable
12:48But the beauty is in order for me to beam all you need is 4k
12:52So I could literally just be on this side on an iPhone and be in the room with you because yeah on the top of this
12:59Box that you're looking at you're looking at and on the big ones. This is a camera. So I'm actually looking at you
13:05I'm in the room with you. I know exactly what's going on in that room
13:09I see that guy over there with his cup of coffee
13:15Look to your right. I do see him. That's my that's my Booker Dean. So I'm in the room
13:21Here's here's my question and I should and I can answer this but to you Howie. What's the difference between Zoom?
13:28Google Microsoft and what we're doing here in terms of how it feels
13:33because I'm not a
13:36Technical person the only thing I could say is I could be on FaceTime
13:40I could be on zoom. But in those two instances, I'm on FaceTime and I'm on zoom
13:46Right now on Proto. I'm in the room. I am there
13:53That's the difference
13:55I'm stunned. I'm absolutely flabbergasted and again, it's it's the
14:00You feel like you're in the room. It's the interaction. It feels real. It's astounding is David still there
14:08David is there. I'll bring him back in but when I'm in a club and I'm entertaining I could see the whole room
14:13I talked to the person in the second row with the red shirt. They can't believe it. They interact
14:17You should see this in concert. You should see this everywhere
14:20Everybody's got to get on the proto board. I have to I actually have to go to the men's room where we will not be
14:29Yeah, don't bring that but thank you appreciate that very much Wow, this is unbelievable David
14:36How do people get more information, how do they learn more?
14:40at proto hologram on everything so at PROTO hologram on everything so we're on
14:47All the social medias at proto hologram comm or we'll just be beaming into your home pretty soon. So maybe just
14:54You know take a beat and and we'll see you soon. Well, please. Thank Howie as well
14:59It is proto hologram across the social David. It's been a great pleasure. The applications are
15:05Endless. Thanks for being here on Cheddar
15:07Thanks
