00:00Welcome to a new brand-new hour of CBS Sports HQ presented by
00:06Canva. Love your work. We certainly love our work. Kyle
00:09Long, Lee J. Duceville, Jacqueline D'Agostino, Juan
00:12Tommy Tran. Football tonight, prime time, AFC East style with
00:17the Bills and Dolphins. Man, it is it is crazy because both of
00:21these teams have such high expectations. Of course, in the
00:25regular season but mainly in the postseason, gentlemen, we're
00:28certainly looking forward to it. Are you excited for the
00:30matchup? For sure. I mean, anytime you get a divisional
00:32rival on a Thursday night football is great. I know a lot
00:35of fans have always questioned the matchups on Thursday night.
00:38I don't think people are questioning this one. This is a
00:40great way to start Thursday night football in week two of
00:42the NFL season. Yeah, it's the Miami Dolphins trying to
00:45establish some form of dominance against this Bill's
00:47team who has been absolutely dominant against the Dolphins
00:51but you look at it. It's not a day game. You get a Thursday
00:53night game so you can take you know that heat out of the
00:56equation. It's still going to be warm. Oh yeah. In South
00:58Florida but at the end of the day, it's the it's the freaking
01:00Josh Allen show at South Beach, baby. Yeah. And we know that
01:05Tua and the Dolphins certainly like warm weather but even
01:08though these teams, I mean, sometimes on paper, we think
01:09they're evenly matched. The matchup is pretty lopsided. If
01:13we go back, the Bills are eleven and one in their last
01:15twelve meetings and it was kind of comeback kid energy from
01:19both of these teams in in week one, both erasing fourteen
01:23point deficits but as mentioned, Josh Allen, he owns
01:27the Dolphins. We'll get to more on that in a minute but just in
01:29general, the Bills have dominated this series. Yeah,
01:32and if you're the Miami Dolphins, I think Mike McDaniel
01:35was was pretty avid in his press conference the other day
01:38talking about the dominance the Buffalo Bills have had. It's
01:41kind of like I kind of liking it to win Tom Brady and it's
01:43not it's not it's been as vast but Tom Brady when New England
01:47owned the AFC East, that's literally what has happened the
01:49last five years for the Buffalo Bills. You see it right there
01:52on the screen. Eleven wins, only one loss in the last 12
01:55minutes and if you look at Josh Allen in totality, he's eleven
01:58and two against the Miami Dolphins. If you're the Miami
02:02Dolphins, right? You have aspirations to not only win the
02:05division but get a playoff win. Well, the easiest way to do
02:07that is to win the division to get a home game at home. So, it
02:11starts tonight for them and it's week two. So, you never
02:13want to say anything is too important but this is a
02:16divisional game, Kyle. These matter going down the stretch
02:19when you're talking about seeding for the playoffs and
02:21again, for the Miami Dolphins, they have a 24-year win
02:24playoff drought. The easiest way to end that is to win a
02:28game at home and win the division. It starts tonight.
02:31Josh Allen has owned them. Let's see if they can change
02:33that. You know, when I was playing in Chicago, we played
02:35against that team up north, the Green Bay Packers and people,
02:38Chicago Bears fans, they'd always say, it doesn't matter
02:40what happens this season. Just beat the Packers and you know,
02:43we had these guys on the rope. I remember when we had Khalil
02:46Mack come in week one, we dominated the Packers early in
02:49the game. Rodgers goes out at halftime. They're down 21
02:52points. Next thing you know, he gets the elixir. He comes back
02:54out, wins the football game. When I'm thinking about the
02:57Dolphins and their matchup against the Bills, it's can we
03:00take down the bad man and that's Josh Allen. The bad man
03:03has dominated against his football team. He's the only
03:05player in NFL history to average 275 plus passing yards
03:10and 50 plus rushing yards against the team. The only
03:13player in NFL history to do that. Josh Allen, I'm looking
03:16for some MVP type performances tonight for him and it's going
03:20to be the same old story. In my opinion, it's going to be all
03:22Bills tonight. Yeah, it'll be interesting to piggyback off of
03:25that Josh Allen note too in his thirteen career games against
03:28the Dolphins. He's thrown for at least two touchdown passes,
03:31not total TDs thrown for TDs. So whether it's Dable or Ken
03:35Dorsey or now Joe Brady Kyle, what stands out to you about
03:38Josh Allen operating in an offense against the Dolphin
03:41team? Well, you said Joe Brady. I think one thing that Joe
03:43Brady does a great job is allowing Josh Allen to be
03:45himself. Let your freak flag fly. My best coach has always
03:48said be you and if I'm Josh Allen's coach, I'm going to say
03:51go be you big fella because that's what's good enough to
03:54win. You don't have to be Superman because even when
03:56you're just being yourself, you kind of are Superman. I look at
03:59no players with over five targets for the Bills offense
04:02last week. He's able to spread the ball out with tremendous
04:05efficiency. Obviously, you've got a lot of guys who can make
04:08plays after the catch for this Bills team, but when those guys
04:10are covered up, look for a big seventeen just like we see on
04:13the screen here taking off extending drives. That's what
04:16breaks the back of this defense without a doubt. It's his
04:19mobility. Tommy we saw it last week versus Arizona two red
04:22zone touchdowns running the football. I think that's the
04:25big question mark for defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver who
04:28will be that spot guy? Will it be Javon Holland? Will it be
04:30David Long because once the Bills get into the red zone,
04:33that's when Josh Allen is dangerous because we know what
04:36type of arm he has. He can put it anywhere on the field, but
04:38it's his mobility added with his size. I mean it's 240
04:42pounds at six foot five. That's not easy to bring down.
04:44That's like a Sam backer playing quarterback. An angry
04:47two exactly. So like that's the big difference with Josh Allen
04:50in the red zone. That's what makes him so tough to guard
04:53because not only can he put the ball anywhere in the field in
04:55the red zone, but his mobility comes into play in the red zone,
04:58which makes this offense very dangerous. Now, Alicia, you
05:01kind of already alluded to it. I know it's only week two, but
05:03the importance of this matchup because it is a divisional game
05:07and the AFC is it's one of those divisions where he
05:09talked about we don't really know how it's going to go down.
05:12We think of Josh Allen and Tua and Aaron Rodgers and I mean
05:15the Patriots are a long shot, but they they showed up against
05:17the Bengals, but hey, we were just talking about this off
05:20camera. If we think back to the Dolphins, if they would have
05:23just beat the Tennessee Titans and then they get a home
05:25playoff game. So it's always this would have could have
05:27should have mentality, but what is the importance of this week
05:31to match up? I know it's early, but it still counts a lot to me.
05:34It's all the pressures on the Dolphins, right? You just
05:37alluded to it, Jacqueline. If they beat the Tennessee Titans,
05:39they win the division. They get it home divisional game last
05:41year in the playoffs, right? With five games left Kyle, they
05:44had a three game lead. I don't think it had ever been done in
05:47history for a team to walk a team down within five games
05:49having a three game league. So it's a psyche to this. You know
05:52this cause a team continues to beat you and beat you for you
05:55to get over that hump and to be divisional champs. We have to
05:59beat this team and if you look at Miami in totality last year,
06:02one in six against playoff caliber teams, right? So
06:05there's that psyche as well. Not only can we beat the Big
06:08Bad Wolf and the Buffalo Bills, can we compete and beat teams
06:11that are playoff caliber type teams. So if you're the Miami
06:15Dolphins, this is a massive game. Yes, Jacqueline, it is
06:17week two, but this is the divisional game. This goes a
06:20long way in regards to you saying like we deserve to be
06:23talked about in regards to winning this division. Yeah,
06:25it's a must win game for the Miami Dolphins. I hate to say
06:28that in week two, but it really is you get these guys at home.
06:30That's a great opportunity, but obviously it's a night game.
06:33They don't have the same home field advantage must win for
06:35the Dolphins. You know going up to Buffalo is going to be a
06:38real load to take on that that team at Highmark Stadium.
06:41There will be no shortage of superstars in this game, but we
06:44want to also have a vested interest on difference makers
06:47on potential guys. It could be game wreckers could be the
06:50decision in what is a short spread. Give me a Bills player
06:53to watch. Well, I've been giving you a position group.
06:55Okay, the corners for the Buffalo Bills Rasul Douglas
06:58Christian Binford and Terran Johnson. I thought the
07:01Jacksonville Jaguars did a really good job last week.
07:03Their corners being physical with the receivers from the
07:06Miami Dolphins. You know this guy was a timing based office
07:09that Mike McDaniel likes to run right to it knows exactly
07:11where to go with the ball when his back foot hits the way you
07:14slow this down is to throw that timing off between receiver
07:17and quarterback and that's what Jacksonville did a really good
07:20job. I was actually surprised when I watched the tape Kyle
07:22that they played so much man coverage against that four by
07:25100 meter relay team that the Miami Dolphins have, but they
07:29did a good job of hitting water at the line of scrimmage
07:31hitting Tyree kill at the line of scrimmage. Sean McDermott
07:34does a really good job of disguising things right. So how
07:37is he going to confuse to a tongue of Aloha, but they need
07:39a big game from their corners redirecting those receivers
07:42from the Miami Dolphins to throw off that timing between
07:45two a tongue of Aloha and also his receivers. You're talking
07:47about throwing off the timing, which I agree with 100%, but as
07:50a defensive lineman, you also know you can throw off the
07:53picture for two a tongue of Aloha and there's so much that
07:55happens right in front of the line of scrimmage for this
07:57Miami Dolphins offense crossing routes quick game out into the
08:01flat and I think if I'm an edge defender if I'm getting
08:04blocked up, I know the ball's not quick. Get your hands up,
08:06but for me, it's an Oliver on the inside not tremendous
08:09against the run game, but I think this would be kind of a
08:11track meet offensively. You'll see a lot of throwing the
08:14football and Oliver can win quickly and if it's in the A and
08:17B gap that can spell disaster for two a look for tips and
08:20overthrow tips and under throw for him. If an Oliver can get
08:24in the backfield and to that point talked about throwing off
08:26the timing between quarterback and receiver Greg Russo had a
08:29big game last week. Three sacks even Von Miller showed up had
08:32five pressures one sack when you throw that timing off and
08:35two has to go to a second or third read that allows your
08:37defensive line to hunt and get on the edge and get after the
08:40quarterback. So that's something to watch as well
08:42right that the offensive tackles from Miami Dolphins. If
08:45two can't find that first read will they be able to hold up in
08:47protection against those two edge rushers now Tommy you
08:50alluded to it. Certainly no shortage of superstars on both
08:53teams, especially when it comes to the Dolphins on both sides
08:55of the ball really, but Kyle who's your player to watch for
08:57Miami for Miami. It's Teron Armstead for the reasons you
09:00just talked about you're looking at the film all week as
09:02Teron Armstead. It's just Greg Russo winning outside Greg
09:05Russo winning inside Greg Russo running down the middle. So I
09:08think Teron Armstead if you can keep your offense on schedule
09:11on first down doing a good job run blocking. I know there's
09:14questions in the running back room for Miami. We don't know
09:17exactly know who's going to be out there. I know Jacqueline's
09:19got what do you got a chance for you need a chance to be out
09:23there. Most didn't practice all week so Teron Armstead understand
09:27that sometimes Greg Russo might shut his rush down try to get
09:31in the throw lanes akin to like what JJ Watt used to do be
09:34careful out there Teron Armstead. You see the hands go
09:37up. You gotta attack that defensive lineman. You can't
09:40let him jump and bat down any footballs. Well, I'm going for
09:42the guys that will be running behind Teron Armstead. That's
09:45the running backs. We'll see if Devon Achan can go from
09:48everything that I've heard out of Miami. He practiced and
09:50looked really good yesterday, so he may go and then Jeff
09:52Wilson actually gave them a burst off the bench last week
09:55as well. They're not only going to be important in the
09:57run game because with that play action pass quick game that
10:00Miami likes to do, you just need the linebackers to bite on
10:03it a little bit Kyle. That way you can throw that behind that
10:06drag route or that that in breaking dig route right. If
10:08you get the linebackers to suck up into the gaps, then you'll
10:11have a clear picture for two. We're talking about lower, but
10:13also out of the backfield. I thought the Cardinals running
10:15backs did a really good job last week catching the ball out
10:18of the backfield. I had 50 plus yards that could really help
10:21this offensive as well. So Jeff Wilson Devon Achan not only
10:25running the football to help Tua Tungvalu in that play action
10:28pass game, but also being a outlet for Tua Tungvalu in the
10:31flat to catch some yards. You guys, you're both declared this
10:35game a gotta have a game for the Dolphins. I'm curious if
10:37you think they get it done tonight. I'm going to start
10:39with you because you also have a pretty strong stance on the
10:42pace of play that we'll see at Hard Rock. Yeah, when you look
10:44at it Thursday night football, we were talking about this
10:47Kyle the playbook and the game plan is always condensed
10:50because you don't have as many days to prepare for a game. So
10:52to me, the edge usually goes to the home team with that
10:55because the rate the way team has to travel down after two
10:58days of just playing a football game to get ready for this
11:00game. I actually like the under in this game. When you look at
11:03the Buffalo Bills, the last six Thursday night football games,
11:06the under is hitting every single one of them. If you go
11:08to the Miami Dolphins in the last 1411 have hit in the under
11:12as well. And then we're talking about the weather right Kyle.
11:15Well, the Miami Dolphins with Mike McDaniel as head coach
11:18right 16 and one straight up 13 and four gets a spread when
11:22it's 75 degrees or warmer. Now it is a night game, but we know
11:26what humidity is going to be hotter than 75 degrees in
11:29September. I actually like the Miami Dolphins to get it done
11:32today. Enough is enough to your one and six against Josh Allen.
11:37We just talked about how Josh Allen has owned the Miami
11:39Dolphins 11 and two. If it doesn't happen tonight, I don't
11:42know when it will. Yeah, it kind of reminds me of the little
11:45brother trying to pick a fight with his older brother and his
11:47older brother's got his his hand on the face swinging like
11:49this. That feels like the Dolphins. They have so much to
11:53be proud of offensively. This football team obviously went
11:56out last week and got to win two or 300 plus yards. The
11:59offense looks to be like the offense has been in the past,
12:02but at the end of the day, it's getting that guy off your
12:04shoulder. It's Josh Allen number 17. Can you contain him
12:07on third and short situations? Can you create a turnover here
12:11or there defensively to give that offense extra possessions
12:14for the Dolphins? I don't know if they have enough to stop
12:17Josh. I don't know if anybody has enough to stop Josh
12:19Allen. I'm picking the bills tonight. Those have won the
12:21division four straight seasons and they did so last year, a
12:24regular season finale down here in South Florida. Kyle Liget
12:28certainly appreciate it. Want to remind everybody about the
12:30Pushing the Pile podcast, which Liget was on this week. Heard
12:33you guys got at it. Had a good time. Oh, yeah. Great time.
12:36Wow. Look at that. Insane. In unison. Wow. Must have had a
12:41good time. Check out the pod. Scan that QR code.
