00:00I try to get up and I am unable to walk I thought I had a stomach bug I've been
00:15on birth control since before we got married but the doctor says well you are
00:18in fact pregnant we had no idea our sister was pregnant you gotta be
00:22pregnant silly to be in labor whoa whoa whoa there's a whole human inside of me
00:27that's about to come out when I went into the hospital I thought I had a
00:30stomachache and I came out with a whole baby one in 2,500 women who give birth
00:35have cryptic or hidden pregnancies and don't know that they're pregnant until
00:39they give birth just by the look of like terror and shock on her face I knew that
00:44that she didn't know in no way shape or form was she mentally prepared for this
00:49normally people have nine months to prepare this is like nine minutes
00:54everything moves so quickly I felt like I was literally in a movie I just hope I
01:05didn't seem too nervous are you nervous my name is Tyleesha my life changed
01:12dramatically after having a baby literally out of nowhere so it's 2016
01:23I'm 17 years old I was going to high school still I was doing online courses
01:28to graduate and I also was working at a daycare too she is excellent with kids
01:33she puts in a hundred and ten percent when she's there but she loved parties
01:37and she loved her friends and she wanted to be able to go out every night
01:41Tyleesha's my best friend we go way back we just had a blast yeah she was just
01:46fun like she was always making people laugh center of attention she was the
01:51walking party let's talk about the night of conception yeah so basically
01:56this is gonna sound funny but January 16th I had a one-night stand and that's
02:02basically where it began and ended it was with my friend's brother who I
02:07always had a crush on was this your first time yes I used protection and
02:13stuff and like I made sure I asked him you know and he was trying to reassure
02:17me that I was okay and I didn't have nothing to worry about and just can't
02:22make a baby like that which is not true so I never thought anybody could get
02:26pregnant after the first time I've had for having sex I thought it was a myth
02:30legend she's a walking walking myth I guess it was just a one-time thing after
02:38that he moved away and we didn't stay in touch just went on with my life
02:48all right let's walk through how you ended up with all these children okay my
02:56name is Karen and here we go
03:01it's August 2019 and I'm a 31 year old woman taking care of three kids under
03:07the age of five can you say hi to Nana Charlotte is four Roger is three and I
03:14just had a baby about six months ago Caroline and my definition of fun it
03:23went from you know going out and doing stuff to just having ten minutes to
03:27myself in the bathroom just hiding the kids are at an age where I can bribe
03:34them they love candy so a lollipop here and there to sit in a corner for a
03:39couple minutes is a not unheard of when I'm on my own help me is Karen always
03:47been like wanting to have a big family or three children a surprise for you
03:52guys not a surprise no not a surprise at all mm-hmm like when we were kids we
03:57were always playing house and she's like well I'm the mom and she definitely got
04:01her wish yeah for the most part we're pretty much homebodies and we stay at
04:08home but when we get a random date night we'll go out to dinner and maybe a
04:13movie thinking back it would have been July when we conceived I remember we did
04:17have nice date night but it wasn't anything special I guess Adam and I were
04:22just having a little bit of fun but I I wasn't on birth control because I was
04:26still breastfeeding at the time breastfeeding you can use it as sort of a
04:30way to prevent yourself from getting pregnant but past six weeks it's not
04:36really that effective I'm trying to figure out life without my mom she died
04:45of congenital heart failure I was 17 years old and she was my best friend she
04:51knew me to a T so like even if I did have my bad days at least she didn't
04:56judge me after she passed away me and my brother went to go stay with my
05:00grandmother it was really rough when she died it's hard to imagine losing a
05:05daughter and a mother but we did it's taken a long time to get over it I don't
05:12think you ever get over it when I moved in with my grandparents I was just
05:17trying to get my mind you know right and stuff and my friends they supported me I
05:22had to take on the role of both raising both the children and all I wanted to do
05:27is get him to high school and get him graduated I had a hard time in school
05:31because I don't like people telling me what to do but I felt like I was doing a
05:34good job at work she worked for my sister at her big daycare downtown she
05:39just loves kids working at a daycare is fun and the daycare I worked at it took
05:45in like special needs kids and kids that were in foster care or don't like you
05:49know have a lot of love at home of course I was gonna be tired too tired to
05:54notice if I had other pregnancy symptoms I didn't notice a thing about her
05:59Tylee should been pregnant she didn't look it she didn't act it I guess I was
06:05still in shock from her mother dying I don't know but I didn't notice anything
06:12spring of 2016 actually my period was coming regular and I was getting it
06:18every month my clothes are still fitting the same I'm not getting any bigger me
06:23having a little belly just I mean it didn't make me think of anything's wrong
06:27because I was always been thicker I am living life as normal and trying to be
06:33you know outside where my friends is you just cruise around a lot most of the
06:38time I mean Omaha's regular regular for teenagers to be out yeah it was a good
06:44time being around her but I never thought she looked pregnant or thought
06:48she was pregnant and still no idea you're pregnant no I had no clue I was
06:52pregnant no
06:57so it's August 2019 and the stomach bug has made its arrival in our household
07:07all three of the kids have been down I have not been much better when you have
07:13three kids under five no one knows how to aim their vomit anywhere so it's just
07:18all over the place Adam has it too that means that my whole day consists of
07:22cleaning buckets and changing sheets I'm cold I'm clammy I can't stop
07:28throwing up and just when I feel like I'm getting better I start throwing up
07:32again and it's just getting so frustrating it does seem a little
07:36strange that Karen's stomach bug is lasting so much longer than than
07:40everyone else's I did my best to just give her her space text me if you need
07:45anything everybody else got over it in about two
07:47days but it's been like two weeks and I don't feel like there's an end in sight
07:51for this it's July 5th 2016 and I'm turning 18 years old turning 18 was hard
08:01for me because my mom had missed my birthday but my friends were there so
08:05they uplifted me they were like you know you deserve this you know you already
08:10been through a lot you deserve to celebrate your day and at that time I
08:14wasn't like parting because I was grieving I was just trying to be around
08:18people that loved me to me it felt like at least you couldn't process her
08:22emotions she was really just kind of trying to shove them down and still
08:26trying to have a good time and live a life as a teenager so I'm at school and
08:33I'm doing my homework my back feels a little funky like it just hurts and my
08:39stomach you know it starts to feel a little bubbly I thought it was maybe I
08:43have to pass something out it just started hurting like really bad and I
08:47couldn't sit down every time I sat out I was uncomfortable I'm trying to like
08:51you know push it off and maybe you'll go away and I'll be okay you know but
08:55because I was in so much pain I just was in tears I went and picked her up because
09:01she was sick brought her home she went in the bedroom and I had daycare here so
09:05I had kids here I thought she was back there sleeping it wasn't in the middle
09:10or nothing it wasn't in the stomach and they go away and then it come back again
09:13so it's like more like somebody's stabbing you in your back with like a
09:16knife or something all right maybe I just need to take some medicine and
09:19sleep it off but it was the worst pain ever it just hurts so bad I could not
09:25sleep
09:31so we've been planning my bachelorette party in Scotland for over a year we
09:36plan this whole trip and it's gonna start with my bachelorette party and
09:39then we're gonna have a girl's weekend in Glasgow before we fly back we're
09:43gonna go for a whiskey tasting we're gonna do a ghost tour of Edinburgh we're
09:47gonna do a gin distillery but also doing the Scottish country dancing night for
09:52those of us who live in Europe or have lived in Europe it's kind of the norm to
09:57walk I don't know how many miles to a lot a lot of miles so we were walking
10:02everywhere I'd pulled a groin muscle you know Edinburgh is like a quite hilly
10:10place and so walking up and down those hills she's very upset but what's going
10:15through your head a lot of pain a lot of pain was going through my head but again
10:20the pain in my groin I just thought it was from all the walking we did like
10:23pregnancy didn't register at all to say that our last day was stressful is an
10:28understatement by far
10:34it just hurts so bad I could not sleep just right here just a lower back was
10:40killing me so I couldn't lay down I had to stay sitting up and then I then I
10:44started standing up and walking around I basically had my feet like this and it
10:50just I don't know my mind was just like okay you got something got to come out
10:53just my body was like push I pushed I looked down and I see like a little
10:58little hair just sitting right there so then I'm like okay well something's not
11:04right something in my mind just clicked and was like okay you gotta push something's
11:10gonna come out you gotta push
11:17something in my mind just clicked and was like okay you gotta push something's
11:24gonna come out you gotta push so my body's just pushing I felt like his
11:30whole head and like part of his like arms and shoulders and stuff and then I
11:35pushed out some more and then his whole body came out you never heard her like
11:40scream or anything did you no I didn't hear anything I was in shock and I was
11:45scared I didn't realize what was going on until he had like came out of me and
11:51he was a lay on the bed then I was like oh my god I just had a whole baby
12:00I fell asleep just fine then I woke up around 4 a.m. with some really sharp back
12:10pains like right where my kidneys were just felt like burning I didn't want to
12:14wake you up because I thought like if it's nothing I don't want I want you to
12:18be able to sleep so that you can go to work but my pain felt like contractions
12:22and I came back to bed cuz it hurt a little terrifying yeah you know that's
12:27why we went to the hospital I just remember I was in so much pain luckily
12:32my mom was not going to work that day and so she was able to stay home with
12:36the kids I'm very concerned that something could really be like that
12:40she's gonna need surgery it just brought a lot of concern for me on the hour
12:46drive to the hospital the pain was just so bad burning up my back all I was
12:50thinking was that it felt like labor but it couldn't be that because I'd never
12:56had my period back from my previous baby something was definitely very very
13:00wrong so we get into the ER and I am in so much pain I can't even speak and so
13:07Adam has to talk for me but he doesn't know what's going on either so I said
13:11she feels like she's in labor and they said well how far along is she and I
13:15went haha she's not pregnant so their eyes popped and they took her upstairs
13:23faster than I've ever seen a hospital staff move I don't even remember
13:26arriving at labor and delivery the next thing I remember is being hooked up to
13:32machines and they give me an ultrasound honestly what I was thinking her body
13:39was putting her through false symptoms we've been through pregnancy as a couple
13:44multiple times I would be able to tell the resident barely has the wand on my
13:49stomach before he says there's a baby in there oh my god I'm about to have a
13:55baby and I immediately burst into tears I wasn't ready for another baby I was
14:02scared thinking about not having any sort of prenatal care just everything is
14:09flashing before my eyes every moment of the last nine months like I was panicking
14:13and you were just so like chill I took a second after you got wheeled out of the
14:17room and I had to get your stuff together and you were all gone I was
14:20like but as terrifying as it was it was more terrifying in the fact that well I
14:26hope the baby's healthy I hope Karen's healthy in the last few pregnancies
14:30Karen was diagnosed with preeclampsia a spike in her blood pressure from the
14:35norm when your blood pressure gets abnormally high it can affect the baby
14:40it's constricting how much blood they can get I didn't know what was gonna
14:44happen or if the baby was gonna be okay that's terrifying oh my god I just had a
14:53whole baby my motherly instincts just kicked in like boom okay I have to make
14:58sure my child's okay I wrapped him up in a towel make sure he wasn't choking or
15:02like anything was wrong with him I didn't realize I was bleeding so much so
15:06like I was like there was like blood coming out of me when I was walking and
15:10stuff I knew something could be wrong with me or my son you know if we didn't
15:14get to the hospital I was like okay so now I gotta tell my grandmother I just
15:19gotten the kids down for nap not walked into the kitchen and Tyleesha comes out
15:24and she says grandma don't be mad but I just had a baby and I says oh oh and
15:31Tyleesha's holding the baby covered in blood I don't think she understands
15:37what's going on but I do and I'm scared for both of them I think I was in shock
15:43and then I think life just took over and then she was like okay let me call the
15:47ambulance my adrenaline didn't stop rushing through my body until I got to
15:51the hospital and that's when everything hit me like a truck
15:57you
16:02we finally get to the hospital I felt everything as the doctors are trying to
16:08get my vitals and stuff I kept asking my mic is my son okay where's my son like
16:12you know why is he not here next to me and they kept trying to reassure me he's
16:17okay he was born at 34 weeks he was about five pounds almost six ounces we
16:25got to the hospital and they were cleaning him up and he was shivering and
16:30I was worried until I asked is he okay and they said yeah he's fine I was
16:35discharged after two days in the hospital then after four days in the
16:38NICU Zalen was healthy and ready to come home
16:50knowing that you have somebody else's life literally in your hands and inside
16:55your body is stressful enough but adding that extra layer of worry about
16:58my blood pressure just really really made it scary for me probably around
17:05seven or so I I thought I haven't heard from them for a while let me text Adam
17:11and find out what's going on so literally two minutes after we find out
17:15that Karen is in labor her mom texts me and like how do you even explain
17:21something like this over text how did she not know like we've seen her be
17:27pregnant three times how could we not know after they did the ultrasound the
17:31resident did some measurements and he thought that the baby was between 34 and
17:3535 weeks and that I was an active labor but because the baby was still early he's
17:41gonna order some meds to try and stop labor and as soon as he left I had a
17:45huge contraction and felt like I was going to push so I asked Adam to call
17:49the nurse back in there at this point a different resident came in and said
17:53okay well we're just gonna check you and see how far along you are she was like
17:57all right you're seven centimeters along so we're having this baby this is
18:02happening they wheel me into the delivery room and as soon as I'm in the
18:06room I said the baby is coming right now my OBGYN finally makes it to the room
18:12just in time to catch the baby all I can think to ask is is she okay and they
18:21said the best words I've ever heard she's perfect she's five pounds 13
18:27ounces and 19 and a half inches long we name her Catherine after Adams
18:32grandmother and I am immediately so in love when he said there's a baby in
18:38there the the shock of that was very instant and very momentary before my
18:44brain just went what's another one Catherine is now three and a half and
18:51she is a happy sweet social butterfly put your arms down you scared you
18:58nervous no you're not scared good it's chaos here on the day-to-day but we have
19:10so much love and so much happiness that it just feels like every day is a
19:13blessing
19:22I knew who my child's father was I told my grandma was like hey text his mom
19:28and let him know that I just had his baby so I'm still single parent but he
19:32takes him at least on the weekends for me so I give my grandma a break
19:36Zalen is smart ambitious he likes to talk back a lot he keeps me young he
19:43keeps me energetic he's always coming up with new things and there's nothing
19:47else he'll come up and give you a hug
19:51Tyleesha is a great mom what kind of dinosaurs do you like
