The sharing of revenge porn is to be classified as the most serious type of online offence under the Online Safety Act, the government has said. Technology secretary Peter Kyle said social media platforms will now have to take steps to swiftly remove it. "It is already a criminal offense to create this content but now we are making it a priority offense," Mr Kyle said. Report by Kennedyl. 00:04intimate image abuse, are kept safe. So it is already a criminal offence to create this content,
00:10now I'm making it a priority offence. But what I really want to do is stop this activity going
00:15online in the first place. So I'm creating a series of measures which make sure that social
00:20media companies and platforms must take measures to stop this content making it online in the first
00:27place. That means using the algorithms to keep people safe, not allow a harmful behaviour to
00:33happen in the first place. Secondly, if one of these images does make it online, there is now
00:38a duty on the platforms to remove it swiftly. If they don't, there'll be very heavy fines to follow.
