00:00Bones and Muscles
00:05Each part of our body is important.
00:11We do different things using different parts of our body.
00:19We use both our hands and legs to run,
00:25swim,
00:27climb a tree
00:30skip a rope.
00:33Eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin are our sense organs.
00:44They help us to sense i.e. feel the world around us.
00:51Kids, have you ever thought what these body parts are made of
00:57or how they are connected?
01:02Our body is made up of millions of tiny cells.
01:08Cells differ in size and shape.
01:14Now try and do this.
01:17Touch the front part of your leg below the knee
01:22and then touch the back of it.
01:27The front is hard whereas the back of the leg is soft.
01:34Both the sides you touched would have made you feel
01:38that there are different things inside your body.
01:43The harder part at the front of your leg which you felt is the bone
01:51and the softer part at the back is the muscle.
01:58Together they make you perform most of the tasks you do in your daily lives.
02:07Movements like picking up a book,
02:11scribbling something in notebook
02:14and moving knees towards chest are possible because of the bones in our body.
02:23Let us learn more about bones.
02:27Bones have a hard outer layer made of calcium.
02:35All the bones are connected with each other.
02:41These connections or meeting points are called joints.
02:49We can bend our body around the joints.
02:53We can feel the joints too.
02:57Do you know a baby has around 270 bones and an adult has 206?
03:09This is because some of our bones fuse as we grow up.
03:17The bone joining our hip and knee,
03:21the thigh bone also called femur is the largest bone in our body.
03:30All human beings have the same structure of bones.
03:35All the bones join together to form the skeleton.
03:41The skeleton is the framework which gives shape and support to our body.
03:51It helps us to move,
03:55gives muscles a place to attach themselves
04:01and protects the soft organs inside our body from injury.
04:10Did you know that a bone doctor is called an orthopedist?
04:17Now let us learn about the softer part of our body i.e. the muscles.
04:26Our bones cannot move on their own.
04:31They are covered with body tissues that expand and contract thus causing movement.
04:39These body tissues are called muscles.
04:47Muscles make up nearly half the weight of our body.
04:54They provide the push and pull which the bones need to bring about the movement.
05:04There are more than 600 different muscles in our body.
05:08The only muscle exposed on the outside is our tongue.
05:15If we blink our eye, we move 200 muscles at one time.
05:24The smallest muscle is inside our ear.
05:28It is the muscles that help you to smile, frown, yawn and kiss.
05:38There are more than 30 muscles in our face.
05:45The muscles in our body are covered by a layer of skin.
05:51There are some parts in our body which are neither hard nor soft.
05:58Touch your nose or the earlobe.
06:05These are neither bones nor muscles but are called cartilages.
06:13These parts tend to be soft.
06:16These parts tend to be a little flexible.
06:22When we grow, it is actually our bones and muscles growing.
06:29We can make sure that our bones and muscles grow fast and remain in a very good condition
06:37by eating a healthy meal, exercising and maintaining a correct posture.
06:46Now let us understand the word posture.
06:52The way we sit, stand or move is called posture.
06:59Good posture is very important.
07:02When we sit, we need to keep our back straight against the back of the chair
07:09and keep our feet flat on the ground.
07:14When we stand, we should keep our shoulders and back straight.
07:21When we walk, we should keep our body straight and swing our toes.
07:28We should keep our body straight and swing our arms from the shoulders.
07:36Once we start sitting or standing in the wrong posture,
07:41our bones and muscles get used to that shape
07:45and in the future we will find it difficult to sit or stand straight.
07:51So, we should practice a good posture every day till it becomes a habit.
08:01So, always remember, healthy food, exercises and proper posture are needed to keep us strong and fit.
