00:00The signing of the Heads of Terms for the Derry and Stratford City Deal marks a significant
00:07step forward in the progression of the city industry.
00:10City Deal will be transformational for the city region.
00:13It's the single biggest investment in the city region in its infrastructure, in its
00:17capacity to attract foreign investment, in our capacity to enhance the learning, the
00:23health and indeed the economic outcomes for the city region and Ulster University is delighted
00:28to play such an integral role in its delivery.
00:32The facilities which we have put in place for the Sidra and Carl innovation projects
00:37will be of enormous benefit to local industry as they seek to implement digital technologies
00:42in their organisations.
00:44Very importantly it's going to create opportunities for employment, for foreign direct investment
00:50and really to give young people in the city the opportunity to build their careers here
00:55in the North West.
00:56And with employment comes good health.
01:00This cannot be understated as an important if not to say vital development for the city
01:07and one which everybody should see as immensely exciting.
01:13These initiatives will make a huge difference to the sustainability and quality of care
01:18for our local population and will ensure that we can attract and retain the highest quality
01:24of workforce to serve our needs.
01:28In addition the Trust will work with our partners in securing the appropriate on-site facilities
01:33at Alton and Galvin Hospital to complement the funding secured for Ulster University's
01:38Graduate Entry Medical School on-site teaching facilities together with research facilities
01:43to be developed at Cedric as part of the Thrive initiative.
01:48And the city deal is going to be a major cash injection for the region, it's going to attract
01:52new business, it's going to attract new people here to live and to work which is just fantastic.
01:58So we welcome it as members, we welcome it as a chamber and we really believe it's a
02:03really positive injection that the region needs for the future.
02:06This investment will be felt right throughout Derry City, Strabaran and right across the
02:11region.
02:12It is indeed a momentous day for the area and we're very proud to be part of it.
02:17This fantastic investment opens great opportunities for so many people.
02:21The chances of new industry coming to our city, revitalising our city centre, all the
02:26work that could be done along the riverfront will bring this city to where it should be,
02:31the pivotal point in Ireland for people to come and visit.
02:35So linking innovation and infrastructure is something that we are absolutely committed
02:39to doing and we look forward to work with the city stakeholders in going beyond these
02:44heads of terms to seeing delivery on the ground in such an important aspect of development
02:51In the North West Regional College we are committed to building the skills of the people
02:55in our city and district.
02:57These programmes will help do that.
02:59We're also within this piece, as well as supporting the innovation projects, we'll be working
03:03around very bespoke skills and to that end we hope to be able to progress a piece of
03:08work in the Strabaran Canal Basin.
03:11Our young people are incredibly proud to be a part of this city.
03:14The investment here really is going to make a difference to them because it's going to
03:18provide them the opportunities to be able to stay and work in the city that they love.
03:24This is a massive injection for the tourism industry and it will regenerate the city district.
03:30The City Deal project has a number of important tourism strands that will support the tourism
03:35economy of the future.
03:37The development of the Walled City Experience Project and the Digital DNA Maritime Museum,
03:43not to mention our digital capacity, will all support the regeneration of the city and
03:49grow our tourism economy for the future.
03:52I think it's a very, very exciting time for everyone and I would like to thank all of
03:55our partners who have worked so hard with us and in partnership with us to develop the
03:59packets that we have got and the packets that we have presented to the government for this funding.
04:03The signing of the Heads of Terms is the start of an amazing journey for our city and region
04:09for years to come.
