00:27Episode 62, Kiss Me, Zoe.
00:31Zoe had been jealous when she'd seen Blaine with Madison earlier that day,
00:36but she was doing her best to hide her jealousy from Blaine. She laughed dryly.
00:41Why would I be jealous? I have no reason to be. Isn't that mistress rule number one?
00:48That you get to sleep with whoever you want. Zoe's words were meant for Blaine,
00:53but she was also trying to convince herself she couldn't be so selfish as to prevent him from
00:57having a relationship with another woman. What if he met someone he liked? Wouldn't she be ruining
01:03his chance at happiness? Zoe felt she had no right to complain, no matter how painful the thought was
01:09to her. As soon as Zoe finished speaking, Blaine's smile vanished, and his face darkened. He was
01:15angry. For a moment, Blaine looked like he was about to say something to Zoe, but then he just
01:22slapped the roof of her car, turned, and walked away. She got into her car and shut the door,
01:28but watched Blaine's back retreating in her rearview mirror. Zoe saw him get into his car,
01:34and his headlights came on. Then he pulled out of the parking lot, and as soon as he hit the street,
01:40Blaine actually hit the throttle to the bottom and took off like a shot, wheels screeching in
01:46his wake. Zoe blinked in surprise at this unexpected display. She quietly tightened her
01:52grip on the steering wheel of her car. She knew that Blaine had always been someone who knew his
01:58limits. No matter how fast he drove, he would consider his safety and the safety of others.
02:05But Zoe knew this uncharacteristic display was Blaine venting his anger. She just wasn't clear
02:11about the source of his rage. Feeling lost, Zoe stared blankly at the darkness outside.
02:17Had she offended Blaine again? She had just been trying to do the right thing.
02:23Zoe had wanted to ask him more about the nature of his relationship with Madison,
02:28but felt that she couldn't. So why was he mad? When Zoe returned home, she was surprised to find
02:35that Ziva was still awake. She was curled up on the sofa, staring straight at the TV,
02:41and her expression looked serious and concerned. She was watching a news report of an earthquake
02:48that had hit Mexico City earlier that day. Zoe paused by the sofa to listen to the news report
02:54with Ziva. Today, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in Mexico City has caused heavy casualties,
03:02with 25,000 confirmed deaths. Officials estimate that as many as 70,000 people may have lost their
03:09lives, with the number of injured likely climbing to over 200,000. Over 30,000 people have already
03:17been reported missing. Complicating rescue operations, several powerful aftershocks
03:23have already been recorded, with more expected in the coming days. As the news went to commercial
03:29break, Zoe asked Ziva, why are you still up? It's so late. Her sister blinked when Zoe spoke,
03:38looking at the blank stare on Ziva's face. It seemed she hadn't even heard Zoe come in.
03:44Zoe felt a prickle of alarm. Saiva, is everything okay? Has something happened?
03:51Ziva looked bitterly at Zoe. Since Dr. Dexter will be heading to the front lines of Mexico City
03:57to provide medical support tomorrow. What? Zoe was stunned. She looked at her sister in astonishment,
04:07thinking she had misheard. Ziva pointed at the news on the television, her face filled with
04:13unsympathetic tears. It's this crappy place. St. Mary's Hospital has a sister hospital has a sister
04:21hospital in Mexico City, and they've requested urgent assistance because of the falling debris.
04:26Many of the injured have head injuries. The hospital. They're particularly requested brain
04:33surgeons and others familiar with various head traumas, and Dr. Dexter volunteered. He leaves at
04:396 a.m. tomorrow. Zoe stared blankly at the endless images of ruins and bloody scenes that flashed by
04:47on the television. Her body was numb from shock. Only after a long time did she return to her
04:54senses, telling Ziva going to Mexico City to save the dying and help the injured is a noble endeavor.
05:00Dr. Dexter is doing the right thing. Don't overthink things. He'll be fine. You should
05:07get some sleep. Unlike Ziva, she understood why Blaine felt compelled to go. Zoe knew the type
05:15of doctor he was. She could only try to comfort her distraught sister and convince herself at the
05:21same time that he would be fine. Noble Ziva was so anxious that she began to cry. You don't know
05:28how dangerous the situation is there. Aftershocks of varying sizes occur all the time. There was an
05:35earlier report that a medical evacuation team was killed when the building they were in collapsed
05:40during an aftershock. If you aren't careful, you might be buried alive in the rubble. You may not
05:47care because you don't love the man who is going. But I don't consider this noble but foolish
05:54behavior. When Zoe heard what Ziva said, her stomach sank. She didn't want to hear any more
06:01reports of deaths and injuries. She didn't allow herself to show her worry to her sister, though.
06:07Ziva, go to sleep. I'm tired, so I'm going to take a shower and go to bed. Zoe hurried back to her
06:16room. She fished her phone out of her purse, but hesitated, wondering whether she should call Blaine
06:23and ask him about going to Mexico City. Was it her place? She cared, but she wasn't supposed to.
06:31That wasn't what was going on between the two of them. She wished she hadn't provoked him earlier.
06:38What if that was the last time she saw him? Zoe threw her phone on the bed in frustration.
06:44No, she couldn't think like this. She had to think positively, trying to forget all her worries.
06:51Zoe went to shower, but Ziva cut in front of her at the bathroom door.
06:56Sis, I need to shower first. I have to get up in a few hours to send Dr. Dexter off from
07:02the airport. Zoe was surprised and couldn't help but ask, what time is his plane? Six. Zero.
07:11Ziva answered without thinking.
07:15Oh. Zoe nodded and moved out of Ziva's way. You can shower first. Zoe hugged her pajamas and sat
07:23on the sofa to wait. She was in a daze. Blaine was leaving early tomorrow morning. She was slightly
07:30disappointed when she heard her sister knew Blaine's itinerary. She knew that Ziva must have
07:36found out about this from Sophia. Everyone knew he was leaving except Zoe. Why hadn't he said
07:42anything earlier? Blaine must not have cared whether Zoe knew, since she had no place in
07:48his heart anymore. Maybe this was a good thing. Zoe tried to comfort herself. They couldn't be
07:54together, so he had to move on. She only approached him again to save their son, a fact that made her
08:01feel despicable and guilty. Zoe tried to sleep that night, but she couldn't. After she heard
08:07Ziva leave for the airport, she lay there for a few minutes before throwing off her covers.
08:13Zoe couldn't help herself. She quickly got dressed and followed Ziva to the airport.
08:19Now Zoe stood behind a pillar in the terminal, a short distance from Blaine's gate. She tucked
08:25her hands into her pockets, wishing she had grabbed something warmer than a cardigan.
08:30She nervously watched the big digital clock on the wall. It was five, zero,
08:38ten more minutes until they would announce the final boarding, a flight 3,105 to Mexico City,
08:46and shut the airplane's doors from her hiding place. Zoe nervously watched where Blaine stood
08:51with a circle of friends. He was about to board the plane, and everyone was saying their final
08:57goodbyes. She watched as Sophia threw herself into Blaine's arms and refused to come out,
09:03despite everyone's eyes on her. Blaine, I don't want you to go to such a dangerous place.
09:09Sophia sobbed in his arms. Blaine seemed unmoved. He only raised his eyebrows slightly and pulled
09:15Sophia out of his arms. As Zoe watched, Blaine glanced around the terminal indifferently before
09:21his handsome face suddenly sank. Dr. Dexter, take good care of yourself. Ziva told Blaine
09:28tearfully. She held out a bag of candy. I brought this for you to eat. On the way, Blaine looked at
09:36Ziva, who was too devoted to him, and slightly frowned. She was Zoe's younger sister, so he
09:42didn't want to be cruel. But after the disastrous meal at her house, he also didn't want to encourage
09:49her. Blaine glanced at the candy but didn't take it out of her hand. He only pursed his lips and
09:55said, I don't eat candy. Ziv. His eyes looked wounded and she looked depressed. Behind the
10:04pillar, Zoe looked at the bag of candy in her hands and frowned. Since when did Blaine dislike candy?
10:10If she had known earlier, she wouldn't have bought it.
10:14Zoe sighed. Not that it mattered. It didn't seem like she was going to have the opportunity to give
10:20it to him anyway. Blaine scanned the terminal again, seeing the other passengers boarding the
10:26plane. He swung his backpack over his shoulder and headed to the gates. Security checkpoint.
10:33When Zoe saw, Blaine's tall, straight figure disappeared into the crowd of passengers.
10:39She couldn't stop the heavy disappointment she felt he was leaving, and she hadn't even had the
10:44chance to say goodbye. Zoe leaned against the pillar as she watched her sister and Sophia leave.
10:51Once again, she felt guilty and ashamed. She knew her decision was harming both women,
10:57especially her sister. What would Ziva do if she discovered her relationship with Blaine?
11:05Would she hate her? Sometimes Zoe wanted to grit her teeth and tell Ziva about the relationship,
11:11but then she would think of how her sister looked at Blaine and she couldn't do it.
11:15She didn't want to break her sister's heart. Now announcing final boarding for American Airlines,
11:22flight 3105 service from Phoenix to Mexico City. After hearing the call for final boarding,
11:31Zoe prepared to leave. However, before she could even act, her face was suddenly grabbed by a big
11:38cold hand before warm lips planted a forceful, possessive kiss on Zoe's lips. Zoe didn't even
11:45need to look to know the man. Kissing her was Blaine. She felt his strong arms wrap around her
11:52tightly as he deepened the kiss. Zoe was disoriented and she felt breathless and overwhelmed by his
11:59fiery, domineering kiss. Blaine only reluctantly let go of Zoe when he felt she was out of breath.
12:06As soon as Zoe gained her freedom, she couldn't help but swing her delicate fist
12:11and lightly punch him in the chest. What are you doing with so many people watching?
12:17Zoe's cheeks were flushed red with embarrassment. Blaine's only response was to grab Zoe and once
12:23again pull her into his tight embrace. He bent and gave her another heart-stealing kiss. Passersby
12:31gazed at them with envious smiles and a few wolf whistles rang out, but Blaine didn't care. He just
12:39kept kissing her. Zoe's blush extended up to her ears. She pushed the man in front of her and
12:45squirmed with embarrassment before he finally let go. Zoe's face was flushed and she stomped her foot
12:52in anger before accusing him. Blaine, you have no shame. You actually... Before Zoe could finish,
13:00she was interrupted by Blaine. I have less than two minutes before I board the plane.
13:06Say something important. He raised his eyebrows, looked at the time on the big digital clock,
13:12then fixed his gaze on Zoe, waiting for her to speak. So fast, Zoe bit her lips, feeling depressed.
13:20She had a lot of things she wanted to say, but looking into Blaine's eyes, she was too nervous
13:26to say any of them. I bought you some candy, but I didn't know you no longer ate it. Before Zoe could
13:33finish, Blaine took the bag of candy out of Zoe's hand. I don't want gifts from other women. Even if
13:41it's delicious candy, I won't accept it if it's not from you. Blaine said this with such indifference
13:48that even though his made Zoe's heart race, he remained as casual and calm as ever. Zoe was
13:55stunned by his words. She looked away from him, trying to control her emotions. She could feel
14:01the corners of her mouth rising in a giddy smile. You be careful. Take care of yourself. Zoe still
14:08couldn't look at him as she told him this. Her hands were in the pockets of her cardigan,
14:14which was swinging up and down unnaturally from her nervous movements.
14:18Blaine squinted his eyes mischievously as he watched her. He looked at the time on the screen.
14:24There was only one minute left. Zoe bit her lips and couldn't help but ask,
14:29how long are you going to be gone? I'm not sure. A couple of weeks, a month, possibly longer.
14:37Blaine stared at Zoe as if he was trying to find traces of her, not wanting him to leave that long.
14:43Zoe was dumbfounded. A trace of loneliness flashed through her watery eyes. A month,
14:50maybe longer. Zoe, looking at you right now, I might believe that you will miss me.
14:57Blaine took his fingers and gently lifted Zoe's chin until he was looking into her eyes.
15:03With a hint of a smile, he assured her, I will be back as soon as possible. His smile was so
15:10dazzling that Zoe felt overwhelmed with emotion. Suddenly, she felt a tight grip on her waist as
15:17Blaine pulled her into his embrace again. Blaine bent his head, his face close to hers and ordered
15:23her in a low voice. Episode 63 Because You're Not Here
15:31When Blaine asked Zoe to kiss him goodbye, she immediately blushed in embarrassment.
15:37They were standing in the middle of a busy airport terminal. She didn't dare, did she?
15:42She could feel Blaine's hand tightening on her waist as he stared at her with his expectant eyes.
15:48Um... It's time for you to board the plane.
15:53Zoe reminded him. She was so nervous she was stuttering. Blaine ignored her. Instead,
16:00he patiently waited for Zoe to kiss him. She had never seen Blaine display this much patience
16:06before. His sexy lips were only half an inch away from Zoe's, yet she hesitated uncertainly.
16:13She could clearly hear the rapid and rhythmic sound of his heart pounding against her own.
16:18Zoe closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then she rose on her tiptoes and moved her face towards
16:24Blaine. Then she kissed him with a kiss as soft and light as a butterfly's. As soon as Zoe's lips
16:31touched his, she quickly retreated in the next second. The moment Blaine felt the softness of
16:37Zoe's lips, she had already pulled away from him. However, her lingering taste was sufficient to
16:44cause Blaine's heart to melt. It had been a very, very long time since Zoe had been the one to kiss
16:51him. A dazzling smile appeared on Blaine's usually indifferent face. He teasingly curled the corner
16:58of his lips and scolded her. Stingy, Zoe's face had already turned completely red. She reached out
17:06to push him away, but Blaine didn't give her the chance. He held her tightly in his arms and
17:11whispered, Stay another moment. I'm about to board the plane. When Zoe heard this, she obediently let
17:19him hug her, no longer trying to pull away. Feeling the warmth of Blaine's arms, Zoe suddenly felt
17:26sentimental. She couldn't deny that she was going to miss him and that the thought of not seeing him
17:32for so many days made her sad without even making a conscious decision. Zoe hugged Blaine back
17:39tightly. She heard him say in her ear, Take good care of yourself while I'm gone. Use my card if
17:46you need to. There's no limit. So take whatever you need. Listening to him, Zoe was visibly moved.
17:54She quietly withdrew from Blaine's arms and shook her head. I'm fine, but thank you. I will.
18:02Zoe was telling the truth, of course, when it came to Max's medical expenses.
18:08Sometimes Zoe really needed money, but at the moment she was okay. She had used Blaine's card,
18:14but had carefully recorded the amount so she could pay him back someday. Blaine was happy
18:20to hear Zoe say this. Good girl. He reached out his hand and with his thumb gently stroked Zoe's
18:27cheek. I should go. All the passengers were on the plane and it was time for him to board. Yes.
18:36Zoe nodded, feeling disappointed. Their time together had been so fleeting. Her chest felt
18:43stuffy and she suddenly felt unwell. Zoe took a deep breath as she watched his tall figure
18:49disappear through the plane's entrance. Her nose burned and she felt her eyes grow wet.
18:56She really couldn't bear to part with him. Zoe didn't leave the airport until she saw Blaine's
19:02plane pull out and taxi away. As she walked out of the terminal, she realized the weather was now
19:08warmer. But Zoe felt herself shiver as if her whole body had turned colder once Blaine left.
19:16She didn't hear from Blaine for the rest of the day, not even a quick message telling her he had
19:22arrived. Zoe had tried to call him, but his phone went straight to voicemail. He probably didn't
19:28have service, which would be normal in a disaster zone. After spending the evening with Max,
19:34Zoe left the hospital and went home. As soon as she entered the house, she turned on the TV
19:41and switched to a cable news channel. They were still reporting around the clock about
19:46the tragedy in Mexico. Zoe involuntarily shuddered as she listened. At 2.00 this afternoon,
19:54an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred in Mexico City. This is the fifth aftershock
20:01of magnitude four or more since the original quake. The number of missing people increased by 120.
20:08One hundred twenty-one volunteer rescue workers and medical personnel are pouring into the city,
20:16doing their utmost to rescue and treat the injured. Zoe felt a little dizzy while watching
20:22the reports. Each image shown seemed more disturbing than the last. All the news was
20:28gloomy and other than making her mood worse. Watching the news coverage wasn't helping her
20:34feel any better. Annoyed, she stood up and turned off the television. She went to her bedroom and
20:41then took a shower. She stood under the hot spray for a long time, allowing the warm water to wash
20:48over her. Zoe hoped that the water would also wash away the heaviness in her heart, but she
20:53couldn't shake her worries no matter how hard she tried, hoping some sleep would make her feel
20:58better. Zoe crawled into bed, but even though she barely slept the night before, Zoe found herself
21:05tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. She checked her phone, but there were no new messages
21:12or texts. Fearing she might miss a call if she fell asleep, Zoe tucked the phone under her pillow
21:19and dejectedly closed her eyes to try to get some sleep. Zoe's mind, however, couldn't rest.
21:27It was too filled with thoughts of Blaine. What was he doing had he safely arrived in Mexico City?
21:34Had they gone straight to work, or was he able to rest first? Did he have a safe place to sleep?
21:41Did they have enough food and warm clothing? The questions just kept coming and wouldn't stop.
21:47Zoe sat up in frustration and rubbed her head with her hands.
21:51I'm going crazy! She said out loud before flopping back onto the bed and covering her head
21:58with a blanket as if that might block out her anxious thoughts in her frazzled state.
22:03It took Zoe a long moment to realize the sound she suddenly heard. Was her cell phone ringing?
22:09Was she dreaming? No, it was definitely ringing. Zoe sat up and fumbled for her phone under the
22:16pillow, but by the time she found it, the ringing had stopped. Damn it! Zoe anxiously cursed to
22:23herself. She swiped through the missed call log. Her fingers were still trembling as they landed
22:29on the screen. She had a call from an unknown number, but the call had come from a Mexico City
22:35area code. Blaine had called. Zoe quickly called back and anxiously waited for him to pick up.
22:42Zoe let out a breath. She didn't know she'd been holding in a frustrated puff when the cold
22:48mechanical voice answered the phone. Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily out of service.
22:56Please hang up and try again later. Beep, beep, beep. Zoe slammed her hand down on the pillow.
23:03No, no, no. She couldn't have missed Blaine's call. She quickly hung up the phone and dialed again.
23:10This time the phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. Zoe was about to hang up in despair
23:15when suddenly a deep magnetic voice filled her ears. It's me. All of Zoe's anxiety disappeared
23:23at the sound of Blaine's voice. All that was left was the pain and emotion that had settled in her
23:29heart. I thought you weren't going to answer the phone. Zoe's voice cracked as she held back her
23:36sobs of relief. I left, but then I came back, Blaine told her, after I called and you didn't
23:42pick up. I figured you had gone to bed and I didn't want to wake you, but after I started
23:48walking away I decided to turn back and then I heard the phone ringing. Blaine didn't tell Zoe
23:55that he had to walk several miles to a payphone to make his call and he wanted to hear her voice
24:00before he returned to camp. I tried calling you, but it said your cell phone wasn't in service.
24:07Zoe softly said as she snuggled under the covers to talk to him, her relief palpable. After hearing
24:14his voice, her heart stopped racing and she even found herself smiling. There's no cell service.
24:22All cell towers are down and only emergency calls are routed through. Blaine explained. Zoe was
24:29surprised. How did you call me without a signal? She asked. Blaine chuckled softly. Of course I have
24:37my ways. Zoe couldn't help but laugh too before asking him, how are things going there? Not good.
24:46Blaine answered her without thinking. Zoe frowned and asked anxiously, why? Because you're not here.
24:54His deep voice settled over Zoe like a warm blanket and his words made her feel like she
25:00was floating on a cloud. She opened her mouth to try to speak, but no words came out. I'm kidding.
25:08Don't get all mushy on me. Blaine's teasing voice instantly pulled Zoe back to reality.
25:15Zoe went from floating on a cloud to crashing back down to earth. She rolled her eyes even
25:20though he couldn't see her. Since when did you become so fond of joking? Blaine ignored her
25:26question. He answered her last question instead. More seriously, I'm doing well here. The food
25:34isn't great, but I'll make do. I saw on the news that there have been a lot of aftershocks,
25:40so you have to be careful, okay? Zoe's concern for him was obvious from the tone of her voice
25:46and Blaine smiled. I promise I'll be careful and that I will return safely.
25:52He knew that by giving Zoe his guarantee, she would be able to calm down. Did I wake you up?
25:59Blaine asked her, then continued. In the future, I'll try my best to call you earlier, but with so
26:05many injuries to treat, it might be past midnight by the time I'm done. I'll be doing back-to-back
26:11surgeries all day. If it's really late, don't wait for my call. Blaine knew how hard Zoe worked
26:18and wanted to ensure she got enough sleep versus staying up late, waiting for his call. Zoe smiled
26:25that Blaine was worried about her while in a disaster zone. Her heart felt warm and a bit
26:30giddy. No worries. I'll understand if you don't call. Just stay safe. It's late. Go to sleep.
26:38You still have to work in the morning. Blaine coaxed her in a low voice.
26:44Zoe nuzzled her head into the blanket and nodded obediently. You should go back and rest as well.
26:51Okay, let's hang up. Blaine urged her. You hang up first, Zoe replied smiling.
26:59Blaine chuckled into the phone. Ladies first. As a man of noble character, it wouldn't be
27:05chivalrous of me to hang up first. Fine. Zoe knew that she wouldn't win, so she laughed
27:12helplessly. And then I'll hang up first. Good night. After she ended the call, Zoe stared at
27:22the phone in her hand for a long time. Her mind reflected on every word Blaine had just said to
27:28her. Suddenly, Zoe felt as if she'd gone back in time. And it was four years ago. The last voice
27:36she'd heard every night had been Blaine's when they'd been together. Back then, they'd also been
27:41reluctant to end their calls, encouraging each other to hang up first. On his end, Blaine stayed
27:48on the phone longer than necessary, making sure Zoe had really hung up. He was admittedly a little
27:54disappointed when he realized she had, although he'd insisted Blaine couldn't help but laugh at
27:59himself as he exited the phone booth. He looked around at the deserted street, tightened his coat,
28:06and began the trek back to the field hospital. When Blaine returned to their tent, he accidentally
28:12woke Josie, who was bunking with him. Josie sat up and looked at Blaine in shock. Where did you go?
28:19It's so late. He looked at the time on his phone. It was almost two in the morning. Blaine took off
28:26his gloves and coat and replied lightly, I had to make a call. Josie looked at him in disbelief.
28:33A call? Our traffic still hasn't cleared. Where did you go to make this call? How did you get
28:39there? Just outside this district, and I walked. It was only a couple of miles away. Blaine replied
28:46blandly, obviously unwilling to share the details of his trip with Josie. A couple of miles? Seriously,
28:53dude, it's pitch black outside with rubble everywhere, and you were in surgery for hours.
28:59Josie sat up and watched Blaine as he took off his boots and then used his canteen to wet a towel and
29:05wash his face. Josie smiled knowingly. Dr. Dexter, I think you went on this late night jaunt of yours
29:13to call Zoe. Am I right? I heard you ask the locals several times today if they knew of anywhere
29:21that had phone service. Look at you, so devoted. Blaine glanced at Jo's coldly, then threw the wet
29:29towel in his hand at Josie's gossipy face when he burst out laughing. It's none of your business.
29:36Go back to sleep. Josie grabbed the towel from his face and smiled even more arrogantly.
29:42Oh, now I know I'm right. Come on, admit it. You've got a bad for that woman. It's so obvious.
29:50But Blaine just got into his sleeping bag, turned off the lantern, and ignored the still laughing
29:56Josie. Thank you so much for watching. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel, comment, and like.
