Abergavenny Vineyards
Transcript
00:00Morning, I'm Jesse and I'm here at Abergavenny vineyards. We planted our first vines last
00:07year, 2023, over 8 acres, we've got 12,000 vines, over 4 varieties as well. So we've
00:14got Pinot Noir, Solaris, Rondo and Pinotin. We've gone for the new hybridised vines other
00:20than Pinot Noir, which means it's reduced disease pressure across the vineyard and also
00:25to help reduce disease pressure for low input farming and viticulture, we've gone for wider
00:30spacing in between the vines. So our inter-row width is 2.5 metres and we've got 1.2 metres
00:37intervine as well. This allows a lot more airflow through the vineyard, through the
00:41growing season and we're trying to grow our vines as straight as possible and not let
00:45too much foliage go out to the sides, which also enables more airflow through the vines.
00:51Having wider spacing also enables us to use the same machinery for our apple orchards,
00:54which reduces costs overall and makes it more economical for us to grow the vines. Over
00:59the future years, we're planning on planting another 40,000 to 50,000 vines and it will
01:03keep the same sort of spacing, at the moment it's working and as you can see the vines
01:08are growing well.
