The Prime Minister said although he was grateful for such achievements, there is still space for the country to improve its performance in such matters.

00:00We have reaffirmed our commitment to the SDG goals and we have achieved somewhat relative
00:17to the average 70% achieved in most countries.
00:23We have excelled beyond that to 43%.
00:29But as I have said, I don't think that is a fair assessment to make.
00:37Yes, we have achieved somewhat relative success, but we should ask ourselves whether sustainability
00:45is to fulfil our economic policy interests or it is something that is so critical for
00:58the survival of mankind and womankind.
01:02If it is so, then the criteria imposed are just guidelines and the success of Malaysia
01:09relative to other countries is only a relative success.
01:14I believe if it is a matter of conviction, then we should do whatever is necessary, our
01:23best to ensure that we do achieve these goals in a more spectacular manner, because that
01:31is a sign of what modernity is all about.
01:34It is about sustainability.
01:36It is about a son and compassion.
01:40It is about compassion and to appreciate the need to survive as a nation, as human
01:54beings.
01:56And that means in these post-normal times to ensure that we deal with these issues with
02:04a speed and pace that is considered unprecedented and which is decided based on the interests
02:16of survival of the nation and humankind.
02:20And this is of course something, a departure from the normal manner we determine our policies
02:28and assess our success or failures based on comparative analysis.
02:34Yes, this is not necessarily irrelevant.
02:38It is sometimes necessary and critical in order to be able to assess our relative success
02:47or failures.
02:48But we are talking about post-normal times.
02:51We are talking about unprecedented change.
02:54We are talking about catastrophe, be it politically, a political devastation caused by political
03:03decisions that cause devastation.
03:05You have seen many other countries, including what is happening in Gaza, or general failure
03:12to accept that catastrophe due to rape of the jungle, to the decision by political leaders
03:24or business community to ignore the calamities as a result of our failure to address environmental
03:33issues and concerns.
03:35If we as a nation, as SDG, assessment based purely on Malaysian interests and policies,
03:46then I would say that notwithstanding all these factors, we must have that resolve.
03:52We want Malaysians to appreciate the fact that in Ekonomi Madani, we do take major focus
04:01on the issue of values, of humanity, of compassion, beyond what is now the major pillar of SDG,
04:12which is, to my mind, a very important economic, social, and environmental imperative.
04:20Let us remind ourselves there are areas, avenues for us to always improve.
04:30The ministries concerned, and I think in this context, mainly the Economic Ministry,
04:37and of course the Auditor General, who will of course take into account of these issues,
04:45mainly traditionally has been just auditing what accountants are good at, but I think
04:54we are now transcending beyond that, looking at policies, looking at determinants that
05:01would safeguard our community and our nation.
05:05We are not talking just about conceptual things, about targets, about data, about facts.
05:11We are talking about the survival of the human race, and the survival requires some form of conviction.
05:23And the conviction can only be achieved through a form of courage, what is termed as courage of conviction.
05:34When you have that courage to first accept the facts and undertake effective measures to implement them,
05:46then, God willing, we will be able to succeed as a nation, as a member of the human race.
