00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McLean. Scientists are warning that a new Covid variant is starting
00:05to spread across Europe and the UK. Named XEC, it is a new sub-variant of Covid, following
00:13on from the FLIRT sub-variant that dominated Covid cases in the UK this summer. Despite
00:20the many Covid sub-variants, symptoms of Covid still remain the same. This includes a high
00:25temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or change to your taste and smell, flu-like
00:31symptoms including a sore throat, headache, aches and pains, nausea, a blocked running
00:37nose or vomiting and diarrhoea. According to the UK HSA dashboard, cases of Covid in
00:44the UK have been rising, with the NHS set to launch its autumn vaccine programme soon.
00:52Data released by UK HSA has revealed that those who received a Covid jab during last
00:57year's autumn booster programme were 45% less likely to be admitted to hospital after
01:02two weeks following vaccination, compared to those who remained unvaccinated. To find
01:08out more about the signs and symptoms of Covid, or if you are eligible for the autumn Covid
01:13vaccine, check out nhs.uk.
