00:00This exhibition is very important because with it we commemorate the first anniversary
00:23of the death of my father, but it also highlights the importance that Italy had, which was
00:29somehow like a second home for my father in his work and in his artistic career and
00:35in his own life.
00:46The reason why Fernando Botero is important is precisely because he created a unique and
00:52original style and because he always remained in a separate category from all the other
00:57artists.
00:58Throughout his life, my father walked a very lonely path in this sense, because he often
01:04swam against the prevailing trends in the world of art.
01:08When he arrived in New York in the 1960s, he was a figurative artist, while what prevailed
01:14at that time was pop art and abstract expressionism.
01:18So, this unique style is what has made him recognizable all over the world.
