00:00Welcome to MEDIAN-TV, the Art Explorer Festival, a free and itinerant cultural festival that
00:16takes place in the Mediterranean until 2026, takes place in the old port of Tangier and
00:22takes place from 20 to 29 September in partnership with the 18th Multidisciplinary Cultural Place
00:29based in Marrakech. And after this stage, the festival and its museum boat will join Rabat
00:35for a stop from 11 to 17 October and at the exhibition menu, concerts, performances, workshops.
00:42And to tell us about it, I have the pleasure of welcoming on the MEDIAN-TV set Selma Bensouda.
00:48She is in charge of the Moroccan steps of the Art Explorer Festival.
00:53Selma Bensouda, thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
00:57So just to get a little closer to what the Art Explorer Festival is,
01:01what can you tell us about this festival?
01:04So as you said very well, thank you for welcoming me.
01:07I am delighted to be able to talk about this festival that we are preparing,
01:10these steps that we have been preparing for two years.
01:12All the more delighted that it is taking place in Tangier and Rabat.
01:15As you said very well, it is an itinerant festival that takes place around a museum boat
01:21in which there are immersive exhibitions that deal with the subject of the representation of women
01:28of Antiquity to this day.
01:30And then we also deploy hackey pavilions on what is called the village,
01:34pavilions where there will be exhibitions, VR experiences,
01:38and then a lot of performances that will take place in the village.
01:42It will be a meeting place, it will be a place where the Moroccan cultural scene
01:46will be honoured.
01:48And so it is a festival that will take place in 15 ports,
01:53sorry, 15 countries and 20 ports.
01:55And Morocco is the only country to date to receive two steps,
01:59so in Tangier and Rabat.
02:00After that, we did the inaugural step in Marseille in June last year.
02:04So to facilitate my next question,
02:07Tangier and Rabat, and Tangier we can already see the first preparations,
02:12the installations, and therefore on La Rocade and at the port of Tangier-Ville.
02:17Concretely, how is this going to happen?
02:21What are the artists who were invited precisely for this festival?
02:25I imagine that of course local artists from Tangier, but also from all over Morocco.
02:31Absolutely.
02:32So both the boat and the pavilions are precisely the object of the itinerance,
02:36so they go from port to port.
02:37Each time, the Fondation Explora, the festival,
02:41honours local artists by inviting local commissioners.
02:46And in the case of Morocco, it is Leila Hida,
02:48who is also the president of the Association Le 18,
02:50of this cultural place based in Marrakech,
02:52who invites local artists to highlight the rich cultural scene
02:57that Morocco represents,
02:59with also some invitations from artists from the Mediterranean port.
03:03So we are going to welcome a Greek artist and a Senegalese artist as well,
03:07in the idea of presenting a festival that is in the image of Tangier,
03:13a festival that is in the image of Rabat.
03:15And as an example, I am delighted to tell you that, for example,
03:17we are going to receive the collective and the group Aït Amon Amour,
03:21or the group Tchvila, or the Kabaret Chekhet.
03:24And it is really the logic of all this festival,
03:29at least in Morocco, is to be able to reconnect with history,
03:32to be able to reconnect with our folklore,
03:34to be able to reconnect with our musical and artistic history,
03:37by inviting groups that make traditional music
03:41and to present it to young and less young audiences
03:47in a slightly more modern way.
03:50So in this festival, I remind you, it is entirely free and accessible.
03:56Well, I imagine within the limits of the gauge,
04:01it may be necessary to specify.
04:03But when we see that it is, you say that it is the boat,
04:07but also the port, but it is divided into several stages.
04:10There are, for example, exhibitions outside the walls,
04:14there are concerts, there are performances,
04:16there are workshops for children.
04:18I imagine that preparing all this was not easy.
04:21I would like you to tell us about the choice, about the artists,
04:26how to prepare such an event to be able to welcome so many artists
04:32so that they can present their performances.
04:36And I remind you, it is still 10 days.
04:39Yes, yes, absolutely.
04:40From 20 to 29, you are right to remind them, it is free.
04:42It is completely free and open to everyone,
04:44in the idea that culture should be accessible to as many people as possible.
04:50So, we have been on these steps for two years,
04:54with several back and forth, with kisses in all directions.
04:58We have invited about 60 artists
05:00who come from several cities in Morocco,
05:02who sometimes come from abroad.
05:04The idea is to work with the city's actors.
05:09We have worked with the city's actors since the beginning.
05:11We have worked with Leila in a very hand-in-hand partnership
05:15to set up this kind of festival all together
05:18and to be able to present to the public the most complete festival possible,
05:23with the port's partner, with all the local institutional actors.
05:28So, we are delighted that finally, finally, it is concrete.
05:31You can actually see it already, the pavilions are set up.
05:34And tomorrow, it will be the inauguration.
05:36Tomorrow afternoon, it will be open to the general public.
05:39So, it's Friday.
05:40So, from 4.30 p.m., I imagine it will be open to the general public.
05:45Selma Moussouda, you live in France.
05:48You have been working on this project since its launch.
05:53You are in charge of the two Moroccan escalators, Tangier and Rabat.
05:59How did you find this Moroccan cultural scene,
06:04in its diversity, in its multidisciplinarity?
06:08Because we are present, there are all the scenes,
06:12there is dance, there is singing, there is art, there is culture.
06:16There are conferences.
06:17There are conferences.
06:18How about you?
06:19What look did you have on this Moroccan scene that you are going to rediscover?
06:24Oh yes, absolutely.
06:25So, from a personal point of view, indeed, as you said,
06:28I have been living in France for 20 years.
06:30And I am, for two years, I am rediscovering, I am reconciling myself too.
06:34I am rediscovering the Moroccan cultural scene,
06:36which is now overflowing.
06:38I am delighted with all the discoveries that,
06:41we bring back to life certain things from our childhood.
06:45There are musics that have been marginalized,
06:47so we try to create bridges.
06:49There is willpower.
06:50There are talented people.
06:52There are people who deserve the light.
06:54And I am really delighted, as a Moroccan, to be able to meet them.
06:57And then, that they are on the festival stage,
07:02it is really a recognition that they deserve,
07:04and they deserve even more.
07:05And so, for me, on a personal level, indeed, it is a great pleasure.
07:08It is a great pleasure to be able to reconnect with this Morocco,
07:11which has everything that I love.
07:12So, it will be from the 20th to the 29th in Tangier,
07:15and from the 11th to the 17th in Araba.
07:19Selma Ibn Souda, thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
07:22I would like to remind you that you are in charge of the Moroccan stages of the Explora Festival.
07:28And thank you, dear viewers, for your loyalty.
