Christie's expands Hong Kong footprint in hope of art market 'pickup'
Auction house Christie's opened its regional headquarters in Hong Kong on Sept. 20, 2024 as its Asia Pacific chief predicted a sales 'pickup' despite a global art market weighed down by wary sellers. Christie's is the third major auction house in recent years to expand their footprint in the Chinese finance hub in a bid to woo younger Asian buyers, following rivals Phillips and Sotheby's.

02:12headquarter, beautiful building instead of the art galleries, but also the
02:16opportunity for them to interact with us as they've always been in the past
02:19with our digital innovations.
02:22We continue to see strong demand from collectors across Asia, whether it's in
02:28our sale room here in Hong Kong or in other geographies.
02:31Most of what collectors in Asia actually are purchasing today in value is
02:35actually outside of Hong Kong, because the offering in London, in Geneva, in
02:39Paris and in New York are very appealing to them.
02:44What we want with this new headquarter is more opportunities for them to see
02:48even more of these beautiful objects.
02:50And we are quite confident with the trust we got from our collectors in the
02:55second half of this year that we see a very nice pickup in our minds.
