A loving couple celebrate 60 years of marriage with a meet at the Wroxeter Hotel. We catch up wit them for a chat.

00:00So we're here at Roxeter Hotel and a very special day for you two, 60th wedding anniversary you're celebrating.
00:08So 60 years, is that a diamond? Yes. It is isn't it? Yeah, beautiful.
00:13So go on, fill us in a little bit, where were you both from originally?
00:17I was from Castle Brockbridge in Birmingham. Yeah. And I'm from Shirley.
00:22And you discovered Shropshire, how did you end up over this way?
00:25Because our daughter moved here. Yeah.
00:28And we were downsizing when we retired, so we came up here.
00:32I worked here one day a week.
00:36Okay, yeah, what did you used to do then? I was in insurance.
00:39Okay, yeah, yeah. And what was your craft then, what did you used to do?
00:44I had lots of jobs, the main one I was secretary to the director of Maryvale Catholic Institute.
00:54Oh wow, okay. So you were married at, go on, where did you get wed at?
01:00St. James. St. James. St. James.
01:04I moved to Shirley. Yeah. And how did you meet then?
01:07Was it, did you meet? We met at a party. Yeah? Yeah.
01:11So what, you clocked out, who asked you out for a drink or a dance then?
01:15Who approached who? Well, I don't think she was that keen on that day.
01:20Yeah. It took a bit. You had to grind her down.
01:25We were actually at a party. Yeah.
01:27And then we went around in a group of friends, which we're still friends with.
01:32Oh, that's nice, isn't it? Yeah, that's nice.
01:35So 60 years, I mean, it's a long time.
01:38How do we get to 60 years and still be holding hands then, as you are?
01:42What's the key, what's the secret?
01:45She's forgiven me for everything I've done.
01:48So marry a very forgiving woman, that's the secret.
01:52We've both got the same sense of humour. Yeah.
01:56And we laugh a lot. I laugh a lot.
01:58And I think I am a kind, kind to each other.
02:02Yeah, yeah, kindness.
02:04And where did you go for your honeymoon?
02:06Did you manage to get away when you got married?
02:09Abersoch we ended up at. Yeah? Yeah.
02:11So has that become like a bit of a tradition to go back there,
02:14or was it a one time visit only?
02:16We've been back a couple of times, but we usually go to St Ives.
02:20St Ives, yeah, it's nice, isn't it?
02:22Yeah. I like St Ives.
02:24We used to go to a terrain farm in Tenby.
02:28Tenby's lovely as well, yeah.
02:30Yeah, yeah, big, big fan of Tenby.
02:32We forced nine girls.
02:34Yeah, in a tent.
02:36Yeah, yeah, I learnt that the hard way,
02:38but I pitched a tent at Barmouth once, right by the edge of the sea.
02:41I thought it was lovely until the winds come, you know what I mean?
02:44So you've got children, how many children have you got?
02:47Son and a daughter.
02:49Yeah, cool.
02:51So do they both live shopped here?
02:53No, Lisa does, but Steve and his family live in Borough Bridge, Yorkshire.
02:58Oh yes, so they've made a special trip down to celebrate with you.
03:02So you're having a lovely meal here at the Rockstar Hotel.
03:05Is there any plans for a romantic getaway as well?
03:08No, no, we're the knights.
