00:00Look forward. Walk, walk, walk. Sit down.
00:13The hardest battle in the Special Forces is the one you'll face in your mind.
00:19Guard!
00:20Lose that battle and you won't last two seconds.
00:23Turn around.
00:24Let's move. Come on then.
00:30In this series, 15 celebrity recruits have been taken to the other side of the world.
00:39The only way these celebrities are going to find their potential is to make their lives
00:44a living hell.
00:45What's happening?
00:46There isn't going to be an easy way out.
00:48Crawl.
00:49They've been put through the most gruelling stages of SAS selection by an elite team of
00:56ex-Special Forces soldiers.
01:01Stripped of all home comforts, they will be pushed further than ever before.
01:06Oh my God, if I pass this course, I'd be as happy as a dog with two dicks.
01:11But it's going to be a challenge.
01:14I'd like to think of myself as a bit of a hard nut.
01:18But probably when I'm out there, I might crumble like a pastry.
01:21No allowances or exceptions will be made.
01:24I'm actually a member of the most unpopular family in the country.
01:27Come on!
01:29I'll take whatever happens, I can survive.
01:31Dig, dig, let's go!
01:33There you go!
01:34Oh my God, no.
01:36No other test asks as much.
01:38I don't want to give it a go.
01:39No.
01:40I'm sore.
01:41I can't do it.
01:42Or means as much.
01:43Look at me.
01:44Don't give up.
01:45Stay in the game.
01:46Clear them.
01:47To the few who make it through.
01:50If you want to be here, then use the pain.
01:53You nasty things.
01:55Thank you, Soph.
02:14Bobby, can you put up a spot?
02:16You've got a head to it.
02:19That's you, pretty girl.
02:20Thank you so much.
02:21My skin is just falling apart at this point.
02:24God, mine's so dry, it feels like pita bread.
02:28It's the start of the third phase of the course.
02:31My hair looks mental.
02:33That's the least of your worries.
02:35And 14 celebrity recruits remain.
02:42Oh, lovely, lovely.
02:44It is just swings and roundabouts in this place, isn't it?
02:47Oh, my God, the highs and lows.
02:49There aren't many highs.
02:55I do love you.
03:01Here we go.
03:02Day three, oppos, pairs, buddies.
03:04Let's go.
03:06Let's look at what we want to put together for today's two tasks.
03:09For the next 24 hours, the recruits will be working in pairs.
03:13Here's an interesting one for you, I'm thinking number three.
03:16I've asked them, they're going to get something,
03:18but they're done apart from that.
03:20Number 14.
03:21Oh, my God.
03:22Can you put this down?
03:24Pity anyone who's with 14, to be honest.
03:26I don't think she's turned up yet and she doesn't want to be here.
03:29That'll be interesting, where that goes.
03:31Yes.
03:32OK, next one then, number five.
03:34I've got a pair of socks and a sleeping bag.
03:36We're number six.
03:37Someone's taken a size eight, they're on my boots.
03:39If they're not on the tongue, they're not mine.
03:41I reckon pairing them two together could potentially break five.
03:46He is acing it.
03:47Yes.
03:48Maybe he needs a little bit more pressure anyway.
03:50Right, next pair, I'm thinking number four.
03:53How are you feeling today, Miss Marnie?
03:55Bob, I'm just worried if they'll try and make me carry Anthony.
03:58We're number eight.
03:59Well, he's strong and she's been weak so far.
04:01Yeah, hopefully it'll sort of whip her into shape.
04:04Yeah, sounds good.
04:07I'm really sorry, I'm going to brush my teeth now, it's electric.
04:10It's not a vibrator.
04:11Imagine if that's what you packed in your little essential bag.
04:13Like, I'm sorry, I just can't live without it.
04:15You must need my bullet.
04:16Live or die.
04:21Get on parade!
04:22Right, everyone, get your marks on.
04:24Button, put your gloves and your hat on.
04:26Come on, everyone!
04:31Ten...
04:32nine...
04:34eight...
04:40Good morning.
04:41Good morning, sir.
04:42Good to go?
04:43Yes, sir.
04:44That's what I like to hear.
04:46The special forces, most of the time, are in pairs.
04:49In that body-body system, you live, breathe,
04:53fart, sleep together.
04:56And you'll drag each other through to the next phase,
04:59whatever that takes.
05:01Stand by...
05:02Go!
05:11That's good, isn't it?
05:13That's just something great.
05:15So far, we've tested these recruits emotionally.
05:20But now we're ramping up the pressure physically
05:23and taking it to the next level.
05:25Tighty-tighty, let's go!
05:27We're putting them through hardship and endurance as a test...
05:31Come on, hurry up! Let's keep it moving!
05:33..to see if they can support each other.
05:35Stop the car.
05:36Because on the battlefield,
05:37you have to be prepared to die for that person.
05:45Special forces operate in extremely harsh environments.
05:49You don't have to just worry about the enemy.
05:51You are literally fighting against the terrain and the environment.
05:57Sometimes we are moving mission-essential kits
06:01into locations that are difficult to get to.
06:04We have to use what we call a polk or a sled.
06:08Make sure you're there to support your oppo.
06:10That's the whole point in having an opposite number,
06:13someone who's got your six.
06:15Is that understood?
06:16Yes, sir.
06:17Right, first things first, sort your spikes out now.
06:21Go!
06:22Now the recruits have been paired with their oppos.
06:27They must pull over 130lbs of kit
06:31in a race across three kilometres of icy terrain.
06:35What's this one? This looks tiny.
06:38Anthony, which goes to the back?
06:40I'm trying to figure that myself.
06:42I wouldn't say I'm a diva or anything.
06:45I don't think I'm a diva.
06:47I don't think I'm a diva.
06:49I don't think I'm a diva.
06:51I don't think I'm a diva.
06:53I don't think I'm a diva.
06:55I can't get it on now.
06:57Let's go!
06:58I can only do what's physically possible,
07:00so if I'm doing something that I don't believe is physically possible,
07:04I can't do it.
07:05I can't get it on.
07:07I just feel like a lot of people are just each man for themselves
07:10kind of world.
07:12I mean, I'm not like that.
07:14I can't get it on.
07:15I'm stressed out, I'm not doing it.
07:17I'm literally not doing it.
07:19No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
07:21Oi, oi, oi, no, no, no!
07:22No, I don't want it!
07:23I'm so fucking done.
07:25I'm so done.
07:26I wouldn't leave a man behind,
07:28but ultimately not many people are like that.
07:31Fuck off.
07:32Take your number, get rid of her!
07:34I just want to go, I just want to go.
07:36I can see that.
07:37I've accepted it.
07:38I'm just not cut out for it.
07:39It is what it is.
07:40You've come to the end of the course for yourself?
07:42Yeah.
07:43And that's fine?
07:44Number four, Marnie Simpson,
07:47is the second recruit to leave the course.
07:50Does this go round the back?
07:52No, I thought it went round the front.
07:54Come on then, hurry up! Let's go!
07:56With Marnie gone, her oppo, number eight Anthony,
08:00will have to compete on his own.
08:03For many, many years I was a boxer by myself.
08:05As a wrestler, I'm by myself.
08:07I live very much in the moment
08:09and I give my all in the moment I'm in.
08:11Come on! Three minutes!
08:13I've got an unwavering amount of self-belief
08:17and I don't quit.
08:18Go, big man. Steady pace, steady pace.
08:22Keep going. Really good job.
08:24The first pair to leave the starting point...
08:27Follow the S-Boxes line.
08:29..are recruit number six, Tez...
08:31Keep going, brother.
08:32..and his oppo, number five, Pete.
08:35Everyone has said to me,
08:36why are you going back to the course?
08:38And my initial reaction was because last time I failed
08:42and I fucked up and I hate that.
08:44And that's why I'm back.
08:45When you get to that kick there,
08:47we'll have ten seconds, catch your breath.
08:49Keep going to the dick, Tez.
08:51My man, come on!
08:52I have a lot of what-ifs and I hate what-ifs.
08:54I've had too many in my life already and fuck it.
08:57Only did once, didn't I?
08:59Well, I nearly didn't after the last one.
09:01Really good, Tez.
09:02My thighs are burning.
09:03Just behind the race leaders...
09:05Good work. You're doing great.
09:07That's a bobble.
09:08..are oppo's number 15, Bobby...
09:10Let's go. Nice.
09:12..with number nine, Lani,
09:14and number two, Rachel,
09:16with her oppo, number ten, Georgia...
09:19She's got this.
09:21Get past her!
09:22..closely followed by recruit number eight, Anthony.
09:28Go!
09:29Rapid!
09:30Go!
09:33Let's go!
09:34..yet to join the race are number 14, Shazia,
09:38and number three, Bianca.
09:40I'm a team player.
09:42I used to run a strip club for six years.
09:44Get your bargain on. You get a tie on.
09:46Yes. You get your bargain on. There we go.
09:48I have to take charge of 40 girls a night, security, staff, the lot.
09:53Let's go. Come on, babe, you can do it.
09:56I think I was probably a nice boss,
09:58but I wanted to make sure, being a woman in a male-dominated industry,
10:03that I wanted to bring that duty of care to the girls.
10:06That's good. Push it, push it.
10:08Come on, Shaz. Come on, babe.
10:11That's it, let's go, 14.
10:14I want to see you pumping them legs!
10:18Guns on bottle, baby.
10:20After 20 minutes, the new race leaders are number seven, Ovi,
10:25and his oppo, number 11, Chris.
10:2811, Ovi, in the V1, that's four.
10:30In second place, working without an oppo...
10:33Go, H! Push!
10:35..is number eight, Anthony.
10:38Can we swap at the slip?
10:40OK, let's swap. Hold on.
10:42Having started the race first...
10:44OK, sorry, man. You need to push for me, yeah?
10:46Yeah, I'm so sorry.
10:47..number five, Pete, and number six, Tez, are now in last place.
10:51Come on, Tez.
10:53I am not physically fit at all.
10:56I think the physical side of things is going to be tough.
10:58Come on, push for me, Tez.
11:00Agh!
11:01I don't care about excelling at any of this.
11:04But I don't care about excelling at any of these tasks.
11:07I don't care about being the best.
11:09If I'm, like, the worst person who passes every task,
11:12but I pass, that's fine.
11:14I don't mind, I don't need a first.
11:16I just want to pass.
11:18Number six, you are doing absolutely jack shit.
11:21I'm pulling stuff, I promise.
11:23I don't see any pulling. I don't see any movement.
11:26Agh!
11:28Come on, Tez.
11:30That's it, 15.
11:32Fuck! Agh!
11:34You put that rage inside and you fucking drive on.
11:39Everybody's hurting.
11:41Who wants it?
11:43Come on, come on.
11:45Quick.
11:47Pulling heavy equipment across this terrain...
11:49You're a fucking idiot.
11:51..knee-deep in snow,
11:53is one of the most physically demanding tasks
11:56that these celebs are going to face on this course.
11:59Come on, Tez, please, man.
12:01Every step you take forward
12:03just takes a little bit more of your energy.
12:05Come on, Tez.
12:07Your legs are burning...
12:09Come on!
12:11..and your lungs feel like you're sucking air from Mars.
12:14Come on, Tez, push through the E.
12:16Help him out, you're just doing nothing!
12:21You are becoming a safety problem!
12:23Let's go!
12:25If your team-mate's not pulling their weight,
12:27you're going to be in a whole world of hurt.
12:29Keep it going.
12:33Do something, Tez, he's doing it all on his own.
12:36You cannot wait any longer!
12:38You are a safety liability, let's go!
12:41Come on.
12:43I'm sorry, Pete, I can't do it, man.
12:45What do you want to do?
12:47What do you want to do?
12:55Close it up!
12:57Close it up! Don't walk, get past him!
13:00The remaining 13 recruits
13:02are halfway through a three-kilometre race.
13:07You're a fucking beast!
13:10At the front of the pack are oppos.
13:12Just move!
13:14Number 7, Ovi.
13:16And number 11, Chris.
13:18Followed by recruit number 8, Anthony.
13:22Come on, get close to the E.
13:24Help him out, you're just doing nothing!
13:26Struggling at the back are number 5, Pete.
13:29Come on, Tez, please, man.
13:31And number 6, Tez.
13:33You get this fucking thing on top of this hill,
13:35I'm taking armband, do you understand?
13:37Yeah.
13:38Number 6, you are useless!
13:42Stand up, give me your armband, now.
13:45Give me your armband now.
13:49You've got nothing left to give,
13:51you're becoming a safety problem, OK?
13:53Get the medic to look at you and I'll see you when you get back.
13:56Go.
13:57Number 5, you're on your own now.
14:01Fucking failure.
14:04Do not fucking stop again, cos you're over that hill, OK?
14:07Get as much momentum as you can.
14:09Let's go.
14:11I don't find it easy relying on other people.
14:14I rely on me.
14:16Yeah, a bit of a lone wolf, really.
14:18You can do it! Get a stride, get momentum and go!
14:21I'm not very good at, you know, letting people in on stuff
14:24because I feel like it's my problem and I should be able to deal with it.
14:27Lean! Let's go!
14:30You've got this, let's go.
14:32And that's not right, because in the end,
14:34all you're doing is creating a bigger fucking hole for yourself,
14:37aren't you?
14:40Nice work, 15!
14:43You're still in the fight.
14:45Nice work!
14:47Come on, Ray. Yeah.
14:49Come on, Georgia.
14:51I'm going to fucking finish this, Ray.
14:53Come on, Ray.
14:55You're doing amazing!
14:57Come on, 14, let's go.
14:59Use them paws, number 3, come on.
15:01In second to last place are Oppo's number 14, Shazia...
15:05Come on.
15:07Strong, number 3, strong!
15:09..and number 3, Bianca.
15:11Well done. That's it.
15:13Well done, number 3.
15:15Well done.
15:17I'm sure people have this preconceived idea about me, you know,
15:21oh, yeah, she's this party girl,
15:23she's a bimbo,
15:25she's all about the glamour and stuff.
15:27Come on, number 3.
15:29Push, push.
15:31Keep driving, come on.
15:33I really want to change people's perception and be like,
15:35yeah, that girl's got a lot about her,
15:37she's got a bit of grit in her, she's got the fight.
15:42Take control of your body, number 3, come on.
15:45Be willing to do whatever it takes to see it through to the end.
15:51Come on!
15:53Falling further behind without an Oppo is number 5, Pete.
15:57You'd better make this fucking work now, let's go.
15:59I'm dizzy.
16:01No more stopping, let's go.
16:05Oh, fuck. Come on, Pete.
16:07Take some water.
16:09I'm dizzy.
16:11It ain't going to stop. Let's go.
16:13It looked like a show and a shit.
16:15You ain't going to make it.
16:17He's going to die.
16:19We're almost there, mate, we're almost there.
16:21Good effort, you two.
16:23After one hour and eight minutes,
16:25the first pair to finish the race...
16:27I'm just glad to be standing on fucking land.
16:31Get your Bergens off, sit on your Bergens.
16:36..number 11, Chris,
16:38and number 7, Ovi.
16:40Come on, then, keep going.
16:43..followed 16 minutes later
16:45by number 8, Anthony.
16:50After an hour and 35 minutes,
16:53Oppo's number 15, Bobby,
16:55and number 9, Lani,
16:57finish the race.
16:59Fucking hell, has he got a gum shield in?
17:03Come on, heads down, let's work, boys.
17:06Let's get up there, come on.
17:0833 minutes after the winners,
17:11and number 14, Shazia.
17:15Fucking good effort, number 3.
17:17And number 3, Bianca.
17:19I don't know why I'm crying.
17:21It's an amazing achievement, that's why.
17:23Oi, number 3, drink some water,
17:25sort yourself out.
17:27I'll come with you.
17:29Amazing work.
17:31You were amazing.
17:33You were amazing, we did it together.
17:36Urgh!
17:40After feeling dizzy earlier in the race,
17:43number 5, Pete...
17:46Tough race, mate.
17:48..will be taken back to base to be medically assessed.
17:51Fuck. Yeah, these things happen.
17:55Are you getting sick, Pete?
17:57A little bit.
17:59Woo!
18:01We did it, though!
18:04He is about to leave Pete on his own.
18:06Is he still there? Yeah, he was still doing it.
18:09Poor Pete.
18:22Checking you over now, your lungs are nice and clear,
18:25everything about you at this point in time is good.
18:28So from a medical perspective, I'm happy for you to carry on.
18:32However, next time anything like this happens,
18:36you're out.
18:40Fucking hell, it broke me. It broke me.
18:43It was so hard.
18:45I just think when you don't do a good job, you beat yourself up.
18:48We've had four leave altogether.
18:50I'm actually really going to miss Pete.
18:52We're all going to fall apart. Where is he now?
18:54Not by himself, but...
18:56Oh, my God!
18:59Oh, my God!
19:01Oh, my God!
19:03Stupid shit. What's happened?
19:05Oh, for fuck's sake. Oh, my God, you had me worried.
19:07The Messiah has returned.
19:09Fuck me, I've got more lives than a fucking cat.
19:14OK, Chris, do the honours on four. Four.
19:18And number six. It'll be a pleasure.
19:21The DS meet with psychologist Dr Alia.
19:24We started with the pork race.
19:27To assess the recruits' performance on the morning's task.
19:31Working in pairs, oppos, whatever you want to call it.
19:35Foxy, if you want to run us through that, mate.
19:37Briefed him up, gave him the time to sort themselves out.
19:41Seven and 11. Seemed to work well as a team.
19:44They both put in the lion's share.
19:46Yeah. Five and six got the shit together at the start,
19:49but it wasn't that long before...
19:51Number six, he was just walking.
19:53He wasn't even pushing, he wasn't doing anything.
19:56He was struggling walking, keeping up with five.
19:59And it got to a point where it was starting to become a bit of a safety thing.
20:03Mm-hm.
20:04Number five gave 110%.
20:07Head down, fucking just going for it,
20:09right up to probably the last 300, 400 metres.
20:12At which point, he started to stumble, fall a bit.
20:15I didn't see the necessity to take any further risks with him.
20:18I just wanted to get him checked out.
20:20His determination, his motivation's great,
20:23but he's now got to dig even deeper for every other task that we do.
20:26I've got faith in him. He really wants to be here.
20:29And then the last two to come in, number three and number 14.
20:3314, she was trying, but she's just not capable.
20:37Do you reckon she gave her 100%?
20:40I don't think she knows what 100% is.
20:42She's just not used to pushing herself to that limit.
20:45She's struggling massively with the physical side of the course,
20:49but mentally, I don't think she's ready to give up.
20:53Three, I'd say I did probably 75% of the work, which I didn't expect.
20:58She's had a few emotional moments today. She was crying.
21:02Right. She's got quite an anxious disposition
21:05and there's quite a lot of turmoil that she's been up and about.
21:09The question is what happens on the pressure,
21:11especially when the pressure builds, that kind of cumulative effect.
21:15I want to see what she's all about and find out a little bit more about her.
21:20Number three!
21:24Three!
21:26Three, three, three.
21:32All right, three, you're going to roll with me. OK.
21:35Meet me over here.
21:37What a Gaza exclusive, I know it.
21:40Yeah, it's 2006.
21:42You got the sniffles? Oh, it's grinding.
21:45All right, well, get ready for more of that.
21:49Come on.
21:58Sit.
22:04Hi, staff.
22:07Bring your chair forward.
22:10What are you crying for?
22:12Oh, just... I've just been very, very emotional.
22:14The tears are going to come because...
22:17I just had a baby and I had a really bad time in my pregnancy,
22:21so I kind of lost myself a little bit.
22:23I had antenatal depression, which I've never had to deal with depression before.
22:27Then my baby come along and she was the best thing that's ever happened to me.
22:31So on the task today, her name's Sunshine,
22:33so going up the mountain, she was my drive,
22:35so I was doing the steps, thinking about her,
22:37thinking that she was going to be at the top.
22:39When I got to the top, it was a massive achievement,
22:41but then she wasn't there, so that's where emotions come from today.
22:44Then I felt good about my day...
22:46Fucking hell, hang on. Just stop a minute.
22:48Sorry. Stop, stop.
22:51Right. First things first.
22:53You need to fucking calm down and take a step back.
22:56I just asked you what you were crying for now.
22:59Not every moment you've cried since...
23:01Oh, cos I've... Sorry.
23:04I think it's cos I'm just nervous, I guess, so I'm just going...
23:08It is, just calm yourself down.
23:11How do you think you're getting on?
23:13On the course up to now?
23:15I know that, like, my fitness isn't there.
23:17I think I've done all right, but I thought I could do better.
23:21Right, so we can understand you a little bit better.
23:24Take us back to you growing up.
23:27Good upbringing?
23:28Yeah, obviously, with the name that I have,
23:31it caused a lot of, like, bullying in my school.
23:34They thought I may be something I wasn't,
23:37but I was just quite laid back and just kept myself to myself.
23:41A bit of a troubled upbringing.
23:43Troubled in what way?
23:44It was just very public.
23:46Obviously, my dad was an alcoholic, so I took a lot of that.
23:50Like, I felt...
23:53..that if he loved me enough, he would stop,
23:56cos we really wanted him and loved him and we wanted him around,
23:59so I took a lot of that on.
24:02Are you a little bit underconfident?
24:04I'm quite insecure. Like, I do give myself a hard time.
24:09So, at the butt of this course, what's the gold standard?
24:13I want to make it to the end.
24:15I came in here to make it to the end.
24:19That's it. I want to do my best.
24:21I'm just nervous, though, now for the next task,
24:23because I just... I'll be scared to fail it.
24:26When it comes to tasks,
24:28all we ask is that you try your hardest, 100%.
24:32Task this morning is done now.
24:34We now watch how you bounce back.
24:36That's what we care about.
24:38You can only do the best job you can on that task, on that given day.
24:42You were leaps and bounds above your partner,
24:45and you were a workhorse, and you did what was asked of you.
24:49You gave a good account of yourself.
24:51All the things that you think are your weaknesses,
24:54you can turn them into positive pools of resilience.
24:58Somewhere along the line, you've built a fucking hard armour.
25:01Mm-hm.
25:02You've just got to learn how to use it here.
25:04Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.
25:07Guard!
25:27I definitely think I've got thick skin.
25:29Growing up publicly, going through a very traumatic time as well,
25:33as a family,
25:35I feel like it's put me to this actual moment
25:39where I can just push everything out as a release.
25:43Where have you been, Beth? I've had a chat.
25:45How was that? Yeah, it was fine.
25:47Sure? A little emotional? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:49Don't get upset, don't you?
25:51I'm just ready to go at any moment, aren't I?
25:53Cos of these bloody hormones.
25:55Yeah, but it's all good, it's all good.
25:57Where I'm in my vulnerable state of being tired, exhausted
26:00and being tested in every aspect,
26:02it's going to be like an open door for emotions to probably let out,
26:07which I've kept embedded in me for a long time.
26:10Feel better for it, though? I needed to just let some tears out.
26:15We've got each other. It's what we're here for.
26:31Poppins is grabbing, popping around under the bed as little pets.
26:35What, the chickens? Yeah.
26:37I couldn't believe it when I saw Sherry with that chicken in her hand.
26:40I don't know if I could be as certain with a chicken like that.
26:43The recruits are halfway through the third phase of the course.
26:47I can't bear the thought of wings and the sound and the motion,
26:50like the...
26:52And all the fucking sawdust and the straw going.
26:55Bollocks to that.
27:01I just want to say, I wasn't sure about you at first,
27:04but you're an absolute... You're solid gold, you are.
27:07Why are you sure about it?
27:09I don't know, cos I'm not very loud. Yeah.
27:11And you're loud, and that's your thing.
27:13Oh, thanks. I think you're great, Rachel.
27:15Well, I think you are great, too.
27:17It's been nice bonding today.
27:19Bloody hell. No, you've done great.
27:26Number 15.
27:28Yes, staff? Everybody on parade, five minutes.
27:31Full kit, the gum shield's in your pocket.
27:34Yes, staff.
27:38Five minutes, full kit on parade, gum shield in your mouth.
27:43Full kit, five minutes.
27:45I don't think... Gum shield in your mouth.
27:48In the mouth, you said? In your mouth.
27:52Go, go, go. One in front of the other.
27:55Fucking hurry up.
28:02Take your fucking gum shields out.
28:05Number 15. Yeah.
28:07When I came on there, what did I say to you when you were stood there?
28:11Five minutes, in the square, gum shield.
28:14Gum shield where?
28:16I thought you said in the mouth, staff.
28:19Fucking hell.
28:21I thought you said in the mouth, staff.
28:24Fucking absolute melt.
28:26Sorry, staff.
28:27Good job it's black.
28:28We'd have never noticed the difference in your gob, would we?
28:31No, staff.
28:33Over to the gate. Go!
28:39Aggression is essential in the Special Forces.
28:43But if you're not capable of committing violence when required...
28:47Go! Let's go! This way!
28:49...you're no use to no-one.
28:51The celebrities have spent time bonding with each other.
28:55One file, let's go!
28:57But when you're at war, you do not get to choose your enemy.
29:02Stand up straight, stop fidgeting, listen in.
29:05In the SF world, one of the worst scenarios,
29:09and the most frightening scenario, is close-quarter battle.
29:14Hand-to-hand combat.
29:17Fight or be killed. Do you understand that?
29:20Yes, staff.
29:22There's only two words of command you will hear.
29:25Fight, of which you will fight, until you hear stop.
29:31Are we clear? Yes, staff.
29:34Take your bergens off, drop them behind you.
29:41Number eight, you will not be fighting due to medical reasons.
29:46Having sustained an eye injury in a professional fight,
29:49number eight, Anthony, will not compete.
29:52Number nine. Number 15.
29:54Number nine, quick, number nine.
29:58Don't ruin those pearly whites.
30:00Preparing to fight is number 15, Bobby...
30:04Good to go.
30:05..who, only two days ago,
30:07was considered the worst recruit on the course.
30:10Physical fighting, no experience at all, really.
30:14He's got a fake nose and a mouth full of veneers, so...
30:17Straight shots.
30:19Do not stop until chief instructor says stop.
30:22Cost a fair bet, and I don't want to be taking my teeth home
30:25in a duty-free bag.
30:28This is your bread and butter, yeah?
30:30Your needs taken up.
30:32Bobby's opponent is number nine,
30:35world heavyweight champion boxer, Lani.
30:39As soon as that bell goes, it's like I've learnt to flick a switch.
30:43Both know what you've got to do, all right?
30:45Do not stop until I tell you to stop.
30:47It's just like I go on to this beast mode.
30:50Full-on aggression.
30:52I'm going to take your head off.
30:54Fight!
30:55Let's go!
30:57Keep at it, 15! Keep at it, 15!
31:00Look where you're going! Come on, number nine!
31:02That's it!
31:04Early in the fight...
31:05Find the enemy! Find the enemy!
31:08..number nine, Lani, takes a commanded lead.
31:11Come on, 15, get back in there!
31:13Come on, 15!
31:15That's it, 15!
31:17Good! Good!
31:18But moments later, number 15, Bobby, is back in the fight.
31:26Stop!
31:28Stop!
31:30Into the middle.
31:33Stay there.
31:36You both did exactly what we asked you to do.
31:39Number nine, you won that.
31:42Number 15, good account of yourself.
31:45You went forward, and that's all we asked.
31:47Back, D-glove.
31:49Back, warrior shield.
31:52Come on, then, mate.
31:57The warrior mindset.
31:59Number seven, number 11.
32:02The next pair to fight are two of the strongest recruits on the course.
32:07If it starts collapsing on you, throw some fucking uppercuts.
32:10Former England rugby captain, number 11, Chris...
32:14This is a battlefield. He's the enemy.
32:16Arms like beeswax. Do not fucking stop punching.
32:19..and professional basketball player, number seven, Ovi.
32:25I'm a tall guy, I'm a big guy.
32:27Very clear what we have to do.
32:29Very clear what we have to do.
32:31I feel like I can be dangerous.
32:34I can handle myself in a fistfight.
32:36Stand by, gloves up.
32:38Fight!
32:39Come on, 11.
32:41Come on, 11.
32:43Get going, 11!
32:48That's it!
32:49Keep going forward! Swing!
32:51Swing, 11! Fight!
32:53I just cut my shoulder. Stop, stop, stop.
32:55I just cut my shoulder. It's gone.
32:57It's popped out? My shoulder's gone.
32:59Where's the med?
33:01Go over there. Wait over there for the medic.
33:04Come on.
33:07It's too far for me.
33:09This is too far.
33:12After suffering a shoulder injury,
33:15number 11, Chris, will be assessed by the medic.
33:19Number 10, over there.
33:21Number two, over there.
33:23Go, two. Get fired up. Let's get over here. Let's go.
33:26Next up are oppos.
33:28Let your arms go, yeah?
33:30Yeah? Yeah?
33:32Number 10, Georgia.
33:34If you fall down or get knocked down, you get back up.
33:37And number two, Rachel.
33:39Stay in the fight.
33:41I don't want to get my nose broken again.
33:43I've broken my nose twice.
33:44If anyone breaks my nose a third time,
33:46they are paying for the plastic surgery.
33:49Gloves up.
33:50Know what you've got to do?
33:52Do it well.
33:53I'll get really cross if they do that.
33:56Fight!
33:58Let them punch!
33:59Throw punches, number two!
34:01Throw punches!
34:04Horrible.
34:10Throw punches, number two!
34:12Throw punches!
34:13Go that big way here!
34:17Stop!
34:20Take your gloves off. Come back to the middle.
34:26Exactly what we asked you to do.
34:28A good account on both parts.
34:30Thank you, staff.
34:31Number 10, you won that.
34:32Thank you, staff. I agree, staff.
34:34I don't care if you agree or not, I'm telling you, you won.
34:36You blocked more punches with your face,
34:38but you kept coming forward.
34:40Thank you, staff.
34:41Back to the line.
34:48Stand by.
34:49Fight!
34:50Go!
34:51Big shots to the head!
34:53To the head! Head!
34:54In the Special Forces, a lot of our operational work
34:57will involve violence.
35:00It's horrible, it's nasty, but you have to do it.
35:04Throw big shots!
35:06In our world, violence is not something you're going to avoid.
35:11A lot of these celebrities will have not been
35:13in any violent situation before in their lives.
35:16Turn around and fight!
35:17You have to face it head on.
35:19You cannot turn your back.
35:21You turn your back, you will lose and you will fucking suffer.
35:26Stop! Stop!
35:29Go over there. Go over there.
35:34Exciting shit. Jump back in.
35:36Fighting's exhausting, isn't it?
35:38Both went forward.
35:39However, you won it.
35:42You lost.
35:43Yes, staff.
35:44Back into the line.
35:45Number five, you won that.
35:48But well done.
35:49Back in there.
35:50Fucking touch me, I'll fucking knock you out.
35:52Get over there.
35:54Number three, over there.
35:57Number 14, over there.
36:00Next to fight...
36:01Do not fucking stop. Just keep punching.
36:04..is recruit number three, Bianca.
36:07Normally, I'm a lover, not a fighter,
36:10but in this course, I'm definitely going to be a fighter.
36:13That's for sure.
36:15Move forward.
36:16All you do is move forward and throw hard shots
36:18straight up the centre.
36:19Bianca's oppo is number 14, Shazia.
36:23I have never been in a punch-up before.
36:26Well, maybe I have with my brothers.
36:28Come to the centre.
36:29But that's just scratching each other
36:31and pulling each other's hair out.
36:33It's not actually boxing.
36:35Stand by. Fight!
36:37Throw punches!
36:39Do not turn your back!
36:40Don't turn your back, 14!
36:42Do not turn your back, I just told you that!
36:45Keep going, keep going! Stop! Stop!
36:48Right, let me remind you,
36:50do not turn your back and do not stop.
36:53Do you understand me? Get your gloves off.
36:55Let's go, 14! Let's go, 14!
36:58Swing! Swing, 14!
37:0214, go!
37:07Stop!
37:11Go over there, take your glove off.
37:16You two, back into your line.
37:18Number three, win.
37:19Number 14, lose.
37:22Get your jackets on, get your hats on.
37:24I remind you, you don't get a choice to choose your enemy.
37:28You have to be violent.
37:30You have to go forward.
37:32You turn your back, you have lost the fight.
37:34If somebody behind you is relying on you,
37:36you've now probably fucking lost their life as well.
37:40Well done, guys.
37:42I was so scared to do that, we've done it now.
37:44Yeah. So, are you all right?
37:46I don't know, I felt so bad.
37:48I could just see the headlines are going to be so funny.
37:51It'll be like, Bianca fights Shaz.
37:53Bianca Gascoigne knocks me out.
37:55I know.
37:57Nobody would have thought that.
37:59It's just so funny.
38:01It's just so funny.
38:03It's just so funny.
38:05It's just so funny.
38:08Nobody... We didn't fall over either, Russell.
38:10No. I couldn't watch Chris.
38:12I know. I just couldn't watch it.
38:14I was nearly crying.
38:17Bobby, you all right?
38:19Oh, that, innit? Yes.
38:27You're going to feel pressure,
38:29but let me know if there's any tenderness anywhere, OK?
38:31After injuring his shoulder on the previous task...
38:34Right.
38:35..number 11, Chris, is examined by Dr Raj.
38:39Squeeze my fingers tightly, don't let go.
38:42OK, and relax.
38:45OK, so your shoulder is unstable.
38:48This could pop at any time.
38:50So, for that reason,
38:52I'm going to have to medically withdraw you from the course.
38:58It's just one of those things.
39:00Yeah.
39:02Right, yeah.
39:04OK, I'm going to have a chat with the DS.
39:07As a sportsperson,
39:09you gradually come to terms with your body can't do it.
39:14Your body's not what it is ten years ago.
39:17When you do get to that stage where you do have to,
39:19unfortunately, move on from what you love doing,
39:22it's really hard.
39:24Oh, fuck.
39:26But you can still have a buzz, it's just a different one.
39:29Number 11, Chris Robshaw,
39:32is the fourth recruit to leave the course.
39:35Devastated.
39:39I'm sick of failing.
39:41I'm sick of getting tasks wrong, not passing.
39:44I'm sick of that. That gets to me after a while.
39:47Of course. It really pisses me off that I can't pass.
39:50I don't know why I'm not passing them.
39:52Who am I? Where am I? What is going on?
39:56All right.
39:58So, since the first and the second task,
40:01the person of concern for me on my radar is number 14.
40:05Having already lost three recruits in this phase...
40:09She does not look happy to be here.
40:11No. Everything's a chore.
40:13Yeah.
40:14..the DS are concerned about number 14, Shazia.
40:18There's something going on that I can't put my hand on it.
40:21I can't work out what is wrong with her.
40:23She's not having fun here.
40:24She's not trying to embrace it, to be honest.
40:27And it's crazy how much she's gone inside her shell.
40:30She's not excelled by any stretch on the course.
40:32She's, if you like, she's been a course handbrake.
40:35It's almost like she's shut down.
40:37I also feel that, in her mind,
40:41she thinks as long as she doesn't give up
40:43and just coasts at her pace, then that's enough.
40:47And that's all she needs to do,
40:49because she's either trying to escape something
40:51or be here for a reason that we don't really know.
40:54She's a proper blank canvas.
40:56One thing we know from her profile is that
40:58she isn't someone to show her emotions.
41:00She does that through her humour.
41:02Humour is a coping mechanism,
41:03and we've taken that away from her so early on.
41:05And so she was left without a weapon, really.
41:08But there's a lot of resilience,
41:09and if she chooses to work with the process
41:12as opposed to against it,
41:13we're going to see a very different candidate show up.
41:16It might be worth it if we have a word with her
41:19to see what's going on, where her head is,
41:22and to make sure that, mentally,
41:24she's in the right place to continue.
41:26Yeah.
41:27Because for us, at the moment,
41:28she doesn't look like that is the case.
41:39Number 14!
41:4314!
41:46Number 14!
41:49SS selection is probably the most physically
41:52and psychologically testing course on the planet.
42:01Our role as military psychologists
42:03is to ensure that they have access to the tools they need
42:06in order to see themselves past the obstacles
42:09that we present them with.
42:15What are you doing?
42:16They said that you shouted number 14.
42:18Yes.
42:20So what are you doing?
42:21I was just running round there, yeah.
42:25Go to the med centre now.
42:28When we see recruits who are struggling,
42:30physically or mentally,
42:31who are depleted and exhausted...
42:36..it is our job to help them find the tools they need
42:39to continue forward.
42:41How are you finding the experience so far?
42:45Well, as you know, I'm a comedian.
42:48This is as far removed from comedy as anything, really.
42:54Some of these tasks, like the boxing match,
42:57the DS said, you know, sometimes violence is the only answer.
43:03Which goes against everything that, say,
43:06a rational kind of guardian reading person
43:10has been brought up to believe.
43:12I've been told that it's wrong and now I'm saying...
43:15I'm not saying that it's right, but I'm saying,
43:17oh, I understand why you do it.
43:20You participated in all of these tasks
43:22that you found confronting in so many different ways.
43:26Where did this resilience come from?
43:28I think when I came into comedy, everybody was mainly a white male.
43:34I was the only one, only Asian female at the time
43:38and I got a lot of shit for it.
43:41I got attacked outside a gig once
43:44and I just, when I think about it, I look back on it,
43:47I think, God, I must have been stupid or just...
43:50Why did I carry on? I don't know why I carried on.
43:53What was the hardest moment that you can recall on that journey?
43:57Following your passion, realising that you have a purpose
44:00and that you're going to pursue it
44:02no matter what other people think of it?
44:04The hardest thing is to keep going.
44:08There's so many times I've wanted to give up.
44:11So many times I thought, why am I doing this?
44:14What's the point?
44:16There's a lot of failure in comedy.
44:19And to keep picking yourself up and keep going.
44:23But I've had a lot of failure in here
44:26and it just reminds me of that same pattern.
44:29Right.
44:30Oh, God, I've been through this before.
44:32What will be your way through it?
44:34You have to take each day as it comes,
44:36but now it's actually gone down to each hour.
44:39Take each hour as it comes.
44:42I want to remind you of your strength.
44:44I just want to tell you this.
44:46Experiences like this are confronting,
44:48they're designed to deplete you.
44:50What would it take for you to finish this?
44:53I have to not lose faith in myself.
45:01I have to not lose faith in myself.
45:05I think you have to be resilient to be a comic,
45:08but you have to be more resilient to be a female comic.
45:12How was it?
45:13I've never seen a psychologist in my life.
45:16You never had any therapy?
45:18Never. I started crying.
45:20Oh, God, they know how to do that.
45:23There was a time in Pakistan,
45:25and I think I did some anal sex joke or something,
45:29and people got offended.
45:32I got death threats where they said,
45:34oh, if she goes on stage tonight, we're going to kill her.
45:37The next night, I had two armed bodyguards.
45:39I thought, my God, I'm only telling jokes.
45:42You work in an environment where you work mostly on your own, right?
45:45Yeah, she did say that.
45:46And you are not used to being shouted at,
45:48you know, cos this is so out of your comfort zone,
45:51every single part of it.
45:52But I didn't give up.
45:54I kept going, and now I'm here.
45:58But you haven't gone. I mean, look, you're still here.
46:01There's nine people left, and you're still here.
46:08Next time.
46:09It's not over! Dig deep now, let's go!
46:12In the Special Forces, it's paramount that you can hold your nerves.
46:15We are constantly faced with situations where we could lose our lives.
46:20We need to know if people can deal with that pressure.
