00:00Folks, welcome to Old MacDonald at Bandon Dunes.
00:03This is one of the coolest, most unique
00:05golf course experiences in the world.
00:07As the old story goes, Charles Blair MacDonald,
00:10iconic Golden Age architect.
00:12He's got a lot of template holes,
00:13a lot of holes that people love that have been repeated
00:16with different iterations all over the place.
00:18Architects Tom Doak, Jim Urbina took C.B. MacDonald,
00:21took the Oregon Coast and said,
00:23what do we think he might have built here?
00:25So you're gonna see a lot of cool holes you've seen before.
00:27You're gonna see some holes that they just figured,
00:29if he had this land, what would he have done?
00:31The third hole is one of the coolest holes in the world.
00:34I filmed on the third and the seventh.
00:36The third has this iconic ghost tree.
00:38It's one of the best logos in the world.
00:40It's definitely the best logo at Bandon Dunes, in my opinion.
00:43Third hole is called Sahara.
00:45You hit it up over this dune.
00:46It's only 345 yards,
00:48but it's one of the most unique tee shots you'll ever hit.
00:51This was a good one.
00:51I took the mini driver.
00:53As you can see, I was kind of holding it off a little bit.
00:55That ghost tree is right in the middle
00:57of where you want to hit it.
00:58If you want to drive the green,
00:59typically the wind is helping a little bit here,
01:02kind of off the right and helping.
01:03So if you pipe one down there, you can get it on the green,
01:05but it's hard to get it far enough left because of that tree.
01:08After you hit your tee shot,
01:10you walk up and you have one of the most magical reveals
01:13that you'll ever see,
01:14especially on a bluebird day like we had today,
01:16walking out there with my brother,
01:18a couple of our best friends,
01:19and you can just see the entire property.
01:22The ghost tree has been through a lot
01:23over the last couple of years.
01:24It nearly fell over, so they're kind of holding it up,
01:26but it is as awesome as it gets.
01:35So I think I had about 60 yards in here.
01:37I'm using a tiny little tripod
01:39that hopefully wasn't too heavy for the caddy to carry
01:41when I threw it in the bag.
01:42So I'm a little bit low here,
01:43but a little 60 yarder green runs away from me.
01:45I pitched this one up there very, very nicely.
01:48As you can see from the view behind,
01:50where it landed was up in that little ridge,
01:52kind of on the front part of the green,
01:53dribbled down to about 10 or 12 feet.
01:56Also, if you do go to Bandon,
01:57I can't recommend my guy, my caddy for the week,
02:00Odie, James Odie, AKA Oregon's Jon Rahm.
02:04I can't recommend him enough.
02:05And if you do see him, don't be afraid to go,
02:07Oh, oh, oh, oh, Odie,
02:10because he's going to love that.
02:11This green is so big with so much going on.
02:14It's actually got a drain in the middle of the green.
02:16Left ourselves in a good spot.
02:17So now we've got a little,
02:18let's call it a 12 footer four birdie.
02:21Had a great read on it.
02:22Hit it pretty solid, but just a hair short.
02:25Again, we're kind of into the wind here.
02:26I think the wind might've affected that one,
02:28but hard not to show the flagstick with the ghost tree,
02:30the actual ghost tree in the background.
02:32It's just awesome.
02:34DraftKings is also awesome.
02:35I have to shout them out.
02:36Big thanks to DraftKings for sponsoring this.
02:38We've teamed up with them.
02:40Just more fun watching golf,
02:41more fun watching golf when you got skin in the game.
02:43If you use our code four, just bet $5
02:46and get $150 in bonus bets instantly.
02:49There's a ton of fun bets you can do.
02:50If you want to keep it simple,
02:51just pick a winner and hope that person wins.
02:54And one of the other best parts,
02:55if you don't have a great first round or second round,
02:57you can always wake up Sunday morning,
02:59look at the leaderboard and pick somebody different.
03:01The second hole that I filmed,
03:02again, I picked two of my favorites,
03:03probably my two favorite holes on the entire course.
03:05To film is the seventh hole.
03:07It's called Ocean.
03:08This one's actually not.
03:09This actually says this from their website.
03:11Not modeled after any particular McDonald hole,
03:14but we, band of dunes,
03:15we're sure that McDonald would have moved heaven and earth
03:18to sight a green on the dune ridge,
03:20overlooking the Pacific between the elevation change
03:23and the prevailing wind.
03:24The second shot will play much longer than the yardage.
03:28I hit a great tee shot here, again, with the mini driver.
03:30Wind here was pretty much straight into
03:33and about as severe as it gets.
03:34I hit a nice one up the left side,
03:36started kind of down the middle.
03:37Maybe it was drawing,
03:38but it definitely was drawing by the end of it
03:40because of the wind.
03:41Ended up just short of this bunker and a fantastic spot.
03:45As you can see, the second shot is very severely uphill.
03:48The pen was kind of in the back.
03:50You cannot miss short.
03:51If you miss a yard short, it rolls back a million yards,
03:54is what I'm going to call it.
03:55So I believe I had something in the 130-ish range
03:59and we picked a six iron.
04:00I know that seems like a lot,
04:01but you just can't come up short.
04:03My whole goal, I'm kind of choking down a little bit here.
04:05You can see I'm trying to saw off this finish,
04:07trying to hit a six iron,
04:08just flight it in there right at the pin,
04:10end up getting it going a little right to left.
04:13Anytime you do that with this much wind,
04:15it's going to go way farther left.
04:16It's going to barrel through the wind.
04:17So we went a little bit deep.
04:18We're in this back bunker.
04:20Bunker games have been pretty solid lately.
04:21I actually posted a daily nine of my bunker play.
04:24So we end up in a not great, not desirable spot,
04:27but excellent effort out of the bunker.
04:29So after all that, we've got ourselves a look for par.
04:32And we talked about reveal earlier.
04:33When you walk up that slope, this reveal is just iconic.
04:36There's my brother.
04:37Our buddy's taking pictures.
04:39You have to up here.
04:40After this, you get a nice little halfway house.
04:42It's got to be one of the most spectacular halfway houses
04:45ever built by humanity or really any living creature
04:48across the universe, the known universe.
04:50Just a phenomenal halfway house.
04:52So here we go.
04:53After, you know, a little bit of a grind,
04:55a fantastic bunker shot,
04:57we've got this look for par to get out of here
04:59with no damage through these two tough holes.
05:01Not my best, but misread this one.
05:03I thought it was going to go a little bit left to right,
05:05and I was wrong, but we tap in.
05:07Pretty disappointed, to be honest with you, with that bogey.
05:09I felt like I could have birdied third hole.
05:11Felt like I could have parred the seventh hole
05:12and gotten through that stretch at one under, but we didn't.
05:15Again, this place is awesome.
05:16The logo off the charts, the reveals off the charts,
05:20all the template holes, really, really good,
05:22and also off the charts, and just the ghost tree.
05:24It's iconic.
05:25You're looking at it throughout the entire round.
05:27Sits up there almost as a north star, as a beacon.
05:29So Old MacDonald, if you get to Bandon Dunes,
05:31if you ever get to the Pacific Northwest,
05:33do your best to get out there.
05:34Fantastic experience.
05:36Big thanks to DraftKings.
05:37Big thanks to Bandon Dunes.
05:39One over through two.
05:46Thanks for watching.
05:48We'll see you next time.
05:49Bye.
05:50Bye.
05:51Bye.
