00:00What do you think of, um, you know, Kaelin coming in and taking over, uh, for Nick, it's
00:11just staggering, uh, that job, like, uh, I think it'd be one of the hardest things to
00:18do in sports history.
00:20Uh, really when you think about it, like replacing Bob Knight or Mike Krzyzewski or any of the
00:26greatest coaches, uh, like, you know, uh, Lombardi, uh, you can do Halas, uh, you know,
00:32uh, John Wooden, uh, Bo Schembechler.
00:36How in God's name did that guy have the stones?
00:39I mean, I don't know anyone that would turn down Alabama.
00:42You sure didn't.
00:43He didn't.
00:44Uh, I, you know, I, I've always wondered why Brian Kelly walked away from Notre Dame.
00:49I thought that was kind of a candy ass decision to be honest, because he hasn't done anything
00:53at LSU except cry and complain.
00:55He never did that when he was at Notre Dame.
00:57How do you think Kalen is handled walking into those slippers?
01:02You know, he's handling it as well as anybody possibly could, because, uh, I've never seen
01:09it in a guy and I had a chance to travel with him a lot before he ever coached his first
01:14ball game because we had a lot of speaking engagements where he was doing town hall type
01:18of appearances and, and I would be the moderator or, or, uh, just do the conversation with
01:24him.
01:26But I've never seen a better combination, combination of humility and self-confidence
01:32as what he has.
01:34He is, he is very confident in who he is and his ability to bring a group together and
01:41lead them.
01:42At the same time, there, there's not an ounce of arrogance that I've seen in a man since
01:48he's been there.
01:49It's not false humility.
01:51Uh, he's not whistling past the graveyard is if he's pretending he's not, um, understanding
01:58of the challenge that lies ahead.
02:00But here's the difference.
02:01And you mentioned all these other, uh, places and scenarios, Scott, but I was, I was a kid,
02:08but I was alive and was here and saw Ray Perkins follow Bear Bryant, which was obviously an
02:16amazing task, very difficult in every coach since Bear Bryant walked back on campus at
02:24his alma mater in Tuscaloosa.
02:26Every coach has had at least one 10 win season, but only three have won national championships.
02:33Coach Bryant with six, uh, coach Stallings with one and obviously coach Saban with six
02:40as well.
02:41But the difference is that program by coach Bryant's admission was slipping just a little
02:48bit when coach Perkins inherited that.
02:51Coach Saban left a program that had just played in the Rose Bowl and was a minute away from
02:57playing from the national title where they would have played against Kalen DeBoer's Washington
03:02Huskies.
03:03This program was in great shape and Kalen DeBoer left a great program for frankly, an
03:09even better one historically, and one that's probably in better shape currently from a
03:14foundational standpoint.
03:16So I, I don't see any reason why this, except for the fact that the league is an absolute
03:23meat grinder that he won't be able to come in and keep a level of success that Alabama
03:29fans are accustomed to and take this back to a playoff situation in a championship contender
03:36once again.
