00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of Last Call for Istanbul, so let's begin.

00:07On the surface, Netflix's Last Call for Istanbul looks like just another romantic comedy where

00:11two strangers have a meet-cute at an airport where they fall in love and their story begins.

00:16But as the events unfold, the movie turns out to be much more than that.

00:20It turns out that the relationship between the protagonists is not a clean slate but

00:24a very complicated one, and what looks like the beginning might actually be the end of

00:27something between them.

00:29By the time the credits start to roll, the characters make up their mind about what they

00:33really want from each other, here's everything you need to know about the ending, just to

00:36let you know this video will contain spoilers.

00:39Mehmet and Saran see each other across the baggage claims area.

00:43From the first look they share, it's clear that there is something between them.

00:47They almost part ways when Mehmet leaves with his bag, but when he notices that Saran's

00:50bag is lost, he stays back to help her.

00:54She tries to be polite and tells him she can manage, but he stays back and helps her find

00:57the man who mistakenly took her suitcase.

01:00They get many chances to go their separate ways, but they decide to stick together, even

01:04when it comes to light that they're both married.

01:06Saran keeps asking Mehmet if he would cheat on his wife back home, and even though he

01:10keeps saying no, it seems like he has every intention of being with Saran.

01:14By the time the night ends, Mehmet and Saran end up in bed with each other.

01:18But the next morning, when Saran's luggage is brought back to her, it is revealed that

01:22she and Mehmet are married and on the verge of a divorce.

01:25Why did Saran and Mehmet want a divorce?

01:28Halfway through the film, the revelation that Saran and Mehmet are married to each other

01:32completely changes the way their interaction is presented in the first half.

01:36It becomes clear why Mehmet refused to leave Saran's side when she lost her luggage and

01:40why he got so aggressive when they were cornered by a pimp on the streets of New York.

01:44It also makes sense that he called himself her husband and why, despite claiming that

01:48he is not the kind of man who cheats, he slept with her.

01:51Saran and Mehmet didn't meet for the first time in the airport in New York.

01:55In fact, they'd been with each other for over a decade and were married to each other

01:59for several years.

02:01It had been somewhat like love at first sight for them when they met each other at a party

02:04in Istanbul.

02:06At the time, Saran was with someone else, but her feelings for Mehmet were so strong

02:10that she ditched that relationship to be with him.

02:12It didn't take much for them to fall head over heels for each other and despite her

02:15father's reservations about Mehmet, the couple eloped.

02:19Reality hit Saran and Mehmet a few years into their marriage when she started to wonder

02:23if it had been a mistake not going to New York when she had the chance.

02:27She dropped that opportunity because things were going well with Mehmet and she didn't

02:30want to leave him behind.

02:32But now, she feels frustrated in her career and applies for the position again without

02:36telling him.

02:38When Mehmet finds out about it, he is heartbroken that she'd apply for a job in another country

02:42without telling him about it.

02:44This secret between them starts to eat away at their relationship, which staggers with

02:47every day.

02:49They constantly fight each other and a distrust develops between them, which comes to a breaking

02:53point when Saran discovers messages from another girl on Mehmet's phone.

02:57The messages don't implicate him in an affair, but it does sow the seeds of suspicion, which

03:01only grows stronger the more Mehmet denies it.

03:03Eventually, it is Saran who asks for a divorce, and Mehmet has no choice but to go forward

03:08with it.

03:09Do Saran and Mehmet patch up?

03:12While the process for their divorce was being finalized, Mehmet and Saran had to go to a

03:15couple's therapist in one last attempt to make things work between them.

03:19After many sessions, the therapist asks them to take the trip to New York together and,

03:23once there, act as if they were meeting each other for the first time.

03:27Would they fall in love with one another then?

03:29If yes, then perhaps there was still something worth saving between them.

03:33After spending the night together as strangers, Saran and Mehmet realize that they still do

03:37love each other.

03:39He believes that it changes everything, but Saran reminds him that one fantastic night

03:43doesn't change anything.

03:45They still have the same problems.

03:48She doesn't want kids, but he does.

03:50She wants to live in New York, but he doesn't.

03:53And they don't have a common ground between them even now.

03:56At the end of the day, they are still standing right where they were when they landed in

04:00New York.

04:01After the fight, they spend the next few days in the city separately.

04:05Saran focuses on her work and Mehmet focuses on his music.

04:09When the time comes to go back, Mehmet leaves a letter for Saran in which he confesses his

04:13love for her and apologizes for the things that created the chasm between them that they

04:16can't seem to overcome.

04:18He asks her to take the return ticket and come back home with him.

04:22He waits for her at the airport, but when she doesn't show up, he boards the plane.

04:26However, before the plane can leave, he decides not to go to Istanbul without his wife.

04:32He tries to leave and discovers that Saran has come to the airport to go back home with

04:35him.

04:36She realizes that he is ready to stay in New York, and he realizes that she is ready to

04:40leave New York, confirming that they both still love each other.

04:44Releasing their feelings, they decide to give their marriage another chance.

04:48They are ready to talk things through and find a common ground where they can meet each

04:51other halfway without having to compromise on their marriage.

04:54In the end, they board the plane for Istanbul together and go back home to turn over a new

04:58leaf in their relationship.
