00:00I think it'll actually be a good idea for Council to get back to the basics. I know
00:13it sounds cliche but it's true. That is the roads, the rates and the rubbish. So that's
00:19what I think Council needs to get back to. Well I've been a Councillor for the past four
00:23years and I served one year as Deputy Mayor and one year as Mayor and I feel that in our
00:28four years of being on Council we've actually been very functional. We've got a lot of projects
00:33completed and we've got a lot of groundwork with new projects.
00:37My endeavours are to try and do some positive listening and thoughts back within the community,
00:49especially in the Platypus Park Ward. I'm looking at road safety which is a big problem
00:55at the moment, especially around the highway facilities up to Cameron Road and Morris Road.
01:00We need to keep up with infrastructure and listen to the people out there as to what
01:04they want. Good footpaths, safety for children and our aged care community, our aged community.
01:11So looking forward to working with the community out there and running some great programs
01:16in the new West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House.
01:23I would also like to see the Council maintain a high level interest in a homeless population
01:29ward. We're really suffering at the moment because social housing is extremely limited.
01:35That's not a Council issue but there are other ways Council can help.
01:38I'm nominated this year because our voices haven't been heard. I've advocated many a
01:43time on many issues and to no avail. So I've said well enough's enough. I've put my hand up.
01:54My priorities are around community engagement. It's a big one. I think that there's more
02:00that we can do to engage the community in some of the decision making. I think transparency
02:04is a big, big, big part of what I'm really about.
02:08I think one of the issues that I do have a problem with is the cost to the community
02:13for rates. Our rates continually are going up and the pressures on families, especially
02:19on young families, is just ridiculous.
02:22One of the things I'm wanting to focus on in this term, if I'm successful, is really
02:28focusing on the rate rises. I think that rate rises put too much pressure on individuals
02:34and families. They're already struggling with the cost of housing.
02:36If we can help in some way with child care, that'd be fabulous. Housing is obviously an
02:41issue. The environment is very close to my heart. Our foreshore area, I'm really interested
02:48in how that draft plan for our foreshore is going to move forward.
