00:00Last week, we took a long and lovely look at every single slam to happen in a summertime ring,
00:05and picked out the very best one from each and every calendar year.
00:08We may not have all agreed on every point,
00:11but when you disagree about things being brilliant, how can you not have a good time?
00:15That is a rhetorical question. This is the internet, after all.
00:18One such topic that probably won't yield a happy discussion
00:22is this week's angrier counterpart that makes me wish that summer would come to an even faster end.
00:28Skipping all of your lovely vacations.
00:31That's what you get for arguing in class.
00:33SummerSlam has had an appalling amount of stinkers over the years,
00:36and Newton's third law of list-making states that every list has an equal and opposite negative list.
00:42So let's get into it.
00:43I'm Tempest, hailing from PartsFunKnown, and this is the worst match from every SummerSlam.
00:48But before I get on with this list, make sure, of course, that you like this video,
00:51subscribe, and enable notifications to Always On so you never miss a list just like it,
00:54and so that you never miss a worst match ever, just like the clip you'll see at the end of this video.
00:591988, Dino Bravo vs. Don Morocco.
01:03It's not often that the fundamentals are what gets pointed out on these lists,
01:06but when the work is clumsy enough for there to be an actual shoot-ref bump, you certainly must lose marks.
01:12It takes a lot, but when arm drags and Irish whips are bad enough for me to notice them,
01:17then it probably is worth making note of.
01:191989, The Honky Tonk Man vs. Dusty Rhodes.
01:23This match is mostly strutting, ass-shaking, and f***ing with each other's hair,
01:27so just remember that when we say that the women's matches of the late 90s on this list were terrible,
01:31we aren't gonna let the men of the late 80s get away with it either.
01:341990, Randy Savage vs. Dusty Rhodes.
01:37More of an angle than a match was Sapphire turning on her polka-dotted partner
01:40in favor of the million-dollar man's millions of dollars,
01:43and sensational Sherry looking like Willow the Wisp took a supporting role in Cats.
01:48Bad times.
01:491991, The Natural Disasters vs. The Bushwhackers.
01:52There is a shockingly high number of spots shared between this match
01:56and The Bushwhackers vs. Sheikhin Bolkov that featured on Worst Match Ever last month.
02:00Watch that show, and not this match.
02:031992, The Undertaker vs. Kamala.
02:05Proving that not everything from Summerslam 92 was brilliant in the eyes of Dave Bradshaw.
02:10Regarding this match, he said,
02:12Dreadful. Really dreadful.
02:14The hearse could have driven faster, and then maybe the entrance wouldn't have been longer than the match.
02:191993, The Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez.
02:22What an unfortunate year 1993 was for The Undertaker.
02:25Vince McMahon really looked at the match Taker had with Giant Gonzalez at WrestleMania 9 and said,
02:30Yeah, run that s*** back, DJ.
02:32I think the perception of him as a genius has quite possibly been over-exaggerated.
02:371994, The Undertaker vs. Fake Undertaker.
02:41If you aren't someone who grew up watching the New Generation era, you know how bad this is.
02:46What if we took the doink-the-clown spot of doing the man-in-the-mirror gimmick with a doppelganger
02:50and did it with the zombie man in the main event of the second biggest show of the year for nine pissing minutes?
02:561995, Diesel vs. Mabel.
02:58Obligatory annual crucifixion of this match.
03:02There are no more jokes to be made about this match.
03:05The well has run dry. The bottom of the barrel has been scraped.
03:091996, Jerry Lawler vs. Jake Roberts.
03:13For however funny it may be to watch the diehard Cleveland Browns fan Jerry Lawler
03:17be forced to parade around in a Baltimore Ravens jersey,
03:20the quote-end-quote comedy he does is f***ing abhorrent.
03:25Horrible jokes about Cleveland, Mark Henry, and Jake's alcoholism
03:29all served as prelude for a wretched ending to a wretchedly distasteful feud.
03:35Lawler won, by the way. No comeuppance.
03:371997, Steve Austin vs. Owen Hart.
03:40This isn't the worst in the way the other matches on this list are the worst,
03:43but if you asked me what match from SummerSlam 97 I would want to watch the least,
03:47it would unquestionably be this one.
03:50For obvious reasons.
03:511998, The Oddities vs. Kyentai.
03:54Now what the f*** was this? The restless crowd, the racist commentary,
03:59the ICP f***ing around at ringside.
04:02This is the worst match on this list, and it gave me a migraine.
04:061999, Ivory vs. Tory.
04:08We've come a long way.
04:102000, The Cat vs. Terry.
04:13A long, long, long way.
04:162001, Brothers of Destruction vs. DDP and Canyon.
04:20Between this and their match the following show with Chronic,
04:23I think the Brothers of Destruction might have had the lowest scores for the duration of the invasion.
04:28This match is just gross.
04:29It's The Undertaker and Kane beating the s*** out of DDP and Canyon
04:33for having the nerve to work for WWE.
04:362002, The Undertaker vs. Test.
04:38It's a unique distinction to be the worst match of the best SummerSlam,
04:42and really it isn't bad,
04:43although it does lack the energy and youth that most of the rest of the card exhibits.
04:472003, Shane McMahon vs. Eric Bischoff.
04:50Why did they keep trying to make Eric Bischoff wrestle when he never once had a good match?
04:55Like, ever? Not even one?
04:58At least Shane was a non-wrestler who could sometimes pull one out,
05:02but you probably needed a Kenny Omega-level performer to get a good match out of Bisch,
05:06and well, Shane McMahon was not that.
05:092004, Kane vs. Matt Hardy.
05:11Ah, my favorite stipulation.
05:13The, I-get-to-marry-you-against-your-will match.
05:16Curious how so many of the stupidest wrestling angles and matches involved Kane, huh?
05:212005, Kurt Angle vs. Eugene.
05:24I just... I just don't want it.
05:27I feel gross.
05:28Thank God this era is over.
05:302006, Batista vs. King Booker.
05:33One SummerSlam trope that I simply cannot stand is,
05:36well, you're getting a finish in the Otherworld title match,
05:39so we can give you a s*** one for this.
05:41It has happened, like, seven times,
05:43and it hurts the most when the match itself is bad,
05:46because no, I would not like to pay to see Booker and Batista wrestle again, thanks.
05:51Speaking of, 2007, Batista vs. The Great Khali.
05:55The Great Khali Depreciation Part 1.
05:58Seven minutes and a DQ finish,
06:00meaning we had to endure World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali a little while longer.
06:042008, Triple H vs. The Great Khali.
06:07The Great Khali Depreciation Part 2.
06:09No, Triple H, you are not the answer to the question of,
06:12how does one get a good match out of The Great Khali?
06:152009, Kane vs. The Great Khali.
06:18The Great Khali Depreciation Part 3.
06:21How is it possible that someone thought it was a good idea
06:24to book Kane vs. The Great Khali in front of a live television audience
06:29in five different calendar years?
06:332010, Big Show vs. The Straight Edge Society.
06:36Now you see, students, if you turn to page 66 in your textbook,
06:39How to Destroy a Faction for Dummies,
06:41you will see an illustration of a tall man named Paul
06:45categorically crushing every ounce of credibility the Straight Edge Society had.
06:50Use at your own discretion.
06:522011, Mark Henry vs. Sheamus.
06:54A forgettable count-out victory in the ascent of the Hall of Pain.
06:58Also, I like that Mark Henry's victims decreased in size
07:01as he went from Big Show to Kane to Sheamus.
07:04Just interesting.
07:052012, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth vs. The Primetime Players.
07:09Of all the thrown-together tag teams to win the tag titles in the 2010s,
07:14I think Kofi Kingston and R-Truth might have been the most thrown together.
07:18I don't think I ever saw them even have a backstage promo together.
07:222013, Bray Wyatt vs. Kane.
07:24Hey, what's an old gimmick match people found exciting we can bring back?
07:28How about an Inferno match?
07:30Great, let's do it, but no one gets set on fire.
07:33Oh, okay, well, at least it will keep it one-on-one,
07:36and let's make the Wyatts put out the fire and just get in the ring!
07:40So, just a The Ring Is Hot match, then?
07:44Yeah. Bollocks.
07:462014, Paige vs. AJ Lee.
07:49Honestly, not even a bad match.
07:51This is just a good SummerSlam and something had to take the spot.
07:53Paige and AJ Lee was a step towards having the long-running rivalries
07:57that the women's division of the time needed,
07:59but with a sub-five-minute match as the payoff, we still had a ways to go.
08:032015, The Miz vs. Big Show vs. Ryback.
08:06At one point, Big Show slams Ryback onto The Miz in this match,
08:10and I can't help but think that no one spoke up
08:13that maybe that spot should have happened the other way around.
08:15This is what you got with IC champ Ryback. Not good.
08:192016, The Miz vs. Apollo Crews.
08:22When people lose their mind over The Miz's 2016 IC title reign,
08:26I would like to remind them that this was the actual quality of most of it,
08:30not just that match with Ziggler and the Talking Smack promo.
08:332017, Big Cass vs. Big Show.
08:36The only way they could have made me want to see this match
08:39was if they both put the word big on the line.
08:41Hell, they could have had Big E in there too, for that matter.
08:44Would have been better than watching Enzo Amore oil himself up
08:47to slip through the bars of his shark cage
08:49like the world's worst leopard-printed stripper.
08:522018, Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens.
08:55This era of Kevin Owens being used to get the other projects of the time over
08:58really left a bad taste in my mouth.
09:00Braun just beat him in under two minutes, and it made me sad.
09:032019, Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton.
09:06Remember when I said having two world titles means
09:09they will just offer up a dog-shit finish for one of them at SummerSlam?
09:12This might be the most egregious example of this.
09:1517 minutes of a truthfully very boring match that just ends.
09:20And you know what? I paid to watch this one live.
09:22I didn't get to pay to watch another finish, so give me a finish!
09:262020, The Fiend vs. Braun Strowman.
09:28The Braun Strowman Universal title reign doesn't get remembered
09:31for being one of the worst title reigns ever
09:33because it was during the Empty Warehouse era,
09:35but at the very least, this match put it to rest.
09:372021, Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair.
09:41This match made Bianca Belair cry,
09:43and I don't care if it all worked out in the end at WrestleMania,
09:45you do not need to be making Bianca Belair cry.
09:48There was always going to be a better way to do this.
09:522022, Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey.
09:55I really, really, really don't like the trope
09:59of babyface champion gets pinned,
10:01but also taps out, but the referee doesn't see it.
10:04On one hand, the babyface is a loser who gave up,
10:07but is just going to pretend that didn't happen?
10:10Not very honorable, but on the other hand,
10:12just wait three more seconds!
10:15And 2023, Shayna Baszler vs. Ronda Rousey.
10:19No more worked MMA.
10:21We as a society have moved past the need for worked MMA.
10:24I'm not sure we ever had a need for worked MMA.
10:27At the very least, this Worst Match of the Year contender
10:30put to rest the year-and-a-half dreg of society
10:32that was Ronda Rousey's return run.
10:35Thank you, Summerslam!
10:37And that's our list. Make sure, of course,
10:38that you like this video, subscribe,
10:39and enable notifications to always on
10:41so you never miss a list just like it.
10:42And check out this clip from the latest episode
10:45of Worst Match Ever, available now.
10:47Mecha Mummy has gone down as one of the most ludicrous
10:50wrestling matches in history,
10:51but is it the worst match ever?
10:53Let's find out.
10:54Why is he called Ken the Box?
10:56Oh, you'll find out, Solomon!
10:58You'll find out, Solomon!
11:00Go away!
11:01Go away!
11:02Why spoil the surprise?
