01:06Well we did a show last weekend and we saw The Weeknd.

01:13So you guys just announced the Vegas residency.
01:16Let's give it up for that.
01:19So cool.
01:20So exciting.
01:21How are you guys going about picking out the songs that you're going to perform for this
01:25thing?
01:26Wow.
01:27We have a long, a large catalog to choose from.
01:31Yes.
01:32And we will.
01:33And you know, it's going to be a long process of putting the show together and coming up
01:37the best ideas.
01:38And we want to try new things and fun things and of course play the hits and feel the nostalgia
01:44and all the feels that people expect at a New Kids show.
01:47But New Kids show is always fun.
01:49It's always a party.
01:50We always have a lot of surprises.
01:52So you know, everything on the set list will fit into that.
01:56Yeah.
01:57That spirit.
01:58And you know, the spirit of Vegas I would say would be one of the different things.
02:02So you can take that however you want, but there's years of Vegas history and years of
02:07New Kids history to play around with.
02:09And we kind of, we'll probably explore all of it.
02:12Is there anything that's automatically out that you guys just don't like performing or
02:16you know, you have trouble performing or everything's up for grabs?
02:21I don't think so.
02:22I mean, it might be fun to, maybe we can do one of those spin the wheel for the deep cut,
02:29spin the wheel on the deep cuts, you know?
02:31Yes.
02:33Yeah.
02:34I think we like to surprise ourselves.
02:35That's so funny you said that because Sabrina Carpenter now she's doing thing, a thing with
02:39her tour where she does spin the bottle and it picks what song she's going to cover during
02:44her set.
02:45Oh, cover songs.
02:46Yes.
02:47That's cool.
02:48So something like that would be cool.
02:49With the recording process for this most recent album, was anything vastly different from
02:56previous albums when it comes to recording?
02:59Were you guys all in there at the same time all the time or?
03:03Well, the actual, the actual recording is a lot different these days just because of
03:10technology.
03:11Yeah.
03:12We can record from our homes.
03:13We can record, you know, anywhere.
03:15And, you know, back in the day, even just like, you know, 10 years ago, five years ago,
03:21everybody had to be kind of in the studio, you know, a big, you know, place, you know,
03:28a studio.
03:29And now it's like your studio is your laptop.
03:32Yeah.
03:33So it's a lot easier.
03:34Do you prefer that now?
03:36I think there's benefits to both, you know, I think you can get a lot done.
03:39You know, I think there's, it takes a little bit more elbow grease to get everybody on
03:44the same page sometimes, you know, but again, the comfort of their home, you know what I
03:49mean?
03:50Like Jordan can cut a vocal when he's ready to cut a vocal and not be, and likewise for
03:54everybody else.
03:55And yeah, so we take advantage of it, you know, but somehow I think our last album,
04:01it's called Still Kids and we're very happy with it.
04:03It's beautiful.
04:04There's a lot of, you know, a lot of heart and a lot of soul and I think a lot of connection
04:08and it feels like we were in the same room, I think.
04:11Can I just say one thing too, to what Joey said about the heart?
04:15One thing about the album too, is it felt like, even though we were all using this technology
04:21and all spread out, we all were really committed.
04:24Yeah.
04:25And you know, we wrote the songs, we brought the songs to the table, we kind of shared
04:31them with the group and got the group reaction and everybody was invested emotionally and
04:37that felt more like what it was like when we were kids than a lot of the albums we've
04:42done since.
04:43So even though the technology changed everything, the Still Kids, that whole theme just felt
04:49like it was there if you step back and look at it.
04:53Like we did it like we were kids.
04:56Everybody's involved, everybody's singing, everybody's contributing something to the
05:00album more so than we've done in a long time and that is really special.
05:05And the technology probably allowed that to happen.
05:08Sure.
05:09Because if we had to all be in the same room, we wouldn't have been.
05:12It takes too long.
05:14So can you put a number on over the years how many unreleased New Kids songs you've
05:22accumulated?
05:24And when are they coming out?
05:26Let's start with Toasties.
05:28But even that was a bonus in Japan.
05:32I think we released most of them this past year.
05:36Okay.
05:37Yeah, we did our reunion album, The Block, which was a very special album for us as well.
05:44We put that out in 2008 and we did a lot more songs that weren't released and we reissued
05:50that on the 15th anniversary and threw a lot of them on there so I'm not sure if there
05:55are anything left.
05:57As a fan, that is a beautiful thing because, I mean, it drives people crazy when they're
06:02like, oh yeah, we got like 75 unreleased songs you're never going to hear.
06:05So this is beautiful.
06:06I love that.

06:10Chapel Rhone, she recently talked about just the invasion of privacy that comes along with
06:17fame and how she's struggling with that and trying to get accustomed to that.

06:25What advice would you guys have for new artists that are really trying to come to terms with
06:31the newfound celebrity?
06:33Yeah, go ahead.
06:35Go ahead.
06:36Go ahead.
06:37It's kind of tough.
06:38Even for me, you want to be a celebrity but you want your privacy.
06:41You know what I mean?
06:42You want both things and it's really hard to do that.
06:49I don't know.
06:50I guess maybe it's more like maybe an inner thing, like to not let things get to you more
06:57so than try to find total privacy while also trying to be a celebrity.
07:04It's very difficult.
07:05Sure.
07:06I think clearly she's incredibly articulate with her feelings and where she is in her
07:12career and how it happened so fast.
07:14And it's lovely that someone could just really say that.
07:18We came from an era where if you said you weren't 100% grateful for everything you had,
07:24people would look at you like you're crazy.
07:26Right.
07:27So it is nice that I think it's part of the evolution of humans and artists to say,
07:33this is wonderful but this is what I need.
07:36And that's what she's saying.
07:37And I think we do that in our own way, maybe more quietly and because we've been in the
07:43game for so long.
07:44But it's not easy.
07:46As far as advice, you can't really give advice.
07:49I mean you can't even give your advice to your own kids.
07:52I had a great dad, right?
07:54It goes in one ear and goes out the other.
07:56You've got to learn on your own.
07:58Hopefully you have enough people around you that can cushion some of the blows that you
08:02go through.
08:03Yes.
08:04But it's an interesting world to grow up in.
08:08And before we wrap piggybacking on that, is there any misconception when it does come
08:14to mental health or therapy that you think is important to address?
08:18I would say the biggest misconception in life and specifically when it comes to mental health
08:26is that asking questions or asking for help is a weakness.
08:32It's a strength.
08:34Yes.
08:35It takes vulnerability which takes strength.
08:40Imagine telling even your closest friend your deepest, darkest secret.
08:46It's hard.
08:47And a lot of us will pass up that opportunity time and time again.
08:51Yes.
08:52And even as it relates to the last topic, we have to learn in time hopefully that asking
09:02for help, asking questions is a strength.
09:07It takes vulnerability.
09:08It takes strength to do that.
09:10And I think in that regard, we can just try to encourage everyone.
09:17And one of the reasons we're here is to encourage everyone to don't be afraid.
09:23Even us.
09:25We grew up in the music business.
09:28We became really successful as teenagers.
09:30And suddenly everyone in our life thought we had all the answers.
09:35And we were children.
09:36And it made it hard for us to say, damn, I'm struggling right now.
09:40Everyone's like, hey, man, what do I do?
09:42Some siblings of ours were like, hey, tell me how to do this.
09:46It's like, you're supposed to help me do this.
09:48I'm a kid still.
09:49Right.
09:50It's a journey for everyone.
09:53But asking for help, however vulnerable anyone feels doing it, hopefully you can find the
10:04strength to do it.
10:05Because it's a beautiful thing.
10:08And there are people out there willing to help.
10:11But they can't read our minds.
10:13They don't know.
10:14They can think we're struggling.
10:16They can assume we're dealing with some issues.
10:21But they can't read our minds.
10:23At some point it takes us to tell them we need help.
10:27Or we need just someone to talk to.
10:29Talking helps.
10:32So if people can do that, it's a great start in the right direction.
10:35And identifying it as a beautiful thing, not a weakness, is a good way to go about starting.
