Teletubbies return with art takeover world tour

The Teletubbies are back - but instead of television screens, the multicolor quartet is spreading their message of joy and inclusivity through a traveling international art project.

The first stop on the tour is London, where a Soho gallery has been transformed into a celebration of Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po.

"This weekend in London, we're kicking off 'The House of Teletubbies' world tour art takeover. The Teletubbies have been on a world tour for the past year. They're continuing this campaign into 2025, focused on themes of art, music and belonging and inclusivity," said Melissa Goodrich, director of franchise at WildBrain, who own the Teletubbies brand.

00:00Great, so this weekend in London, we're kicking off the House of Teletubbies World Tour Art
00:13Takeover.
00:14The Teletubbies have been on a world tour for the past year.
00:18They're continuing this campaign into 2025, focused on themes of art, music, and belonging
00:23and inclusivity.
00:25This weekend in London, we brought together a collective of 13 artists from around the
00:29globe, ranging from different mediums, from canvas, to photography, to sculpture, and
00:34even some decommissioned Riot spray-painted gear.
00:38They are just all about chaos and wonder, discovery.
00:43They fall down, they get messy, and it's okay.
00:45They dust themselves off, they get back up, and try again.
00:49It's all about inclusivity and belonging.
00:52Everyone is welcome into the world of Teletubbies.
00:54Artists are embraced and celebrated, and it's really all about rediscovering your
00:59inner childhood as an adult.
01:01When you're a child, it's all about that very first friend.
01:05They speak directly to the child, engage them into their world.
01:09And so we kicked off this summer with our Belonging and Inclusivity Moment, where we
01:14participated in Bangkok Pride.
01:16We went to DragCon in LA.
01:19We also did a lot around music in the digital space.
01:22The Teletubbies have such a big fandom on social media.
01:26They have over 1.5 million followers on TikTok, nearly 800,000 followers on Instagram, and
01:32it's truly your daily dose of serotonin.
01:35So the original fan base of the Teletubbies from 1997, as they are now Gen Z and young
01:41millennials, they still love to experience that world of Teletubbies and just embrace
01:46the joy and discovery that they bring.
01:49What I love what he did here is he took even the Teletubbies, you see the differences in
01:54their eye colors and all the dimension, and really brings to life the Teletubbies texture.
02:00So the artists are from all over the world.
02:03We have from the US, UK, as well as Hong Kong.
02:07And from there, we worked with Austin Call, who's known as Derivative.
02:12He does these amazing collages on canvas.
02:14So he took the four Teletubbies and did them in his medium, in his way to reimagine how
02:20he sees them.
02:22We also partnered with Christian Cowan, who did those iconic Dipsy boots that broke the
02:27internet in 2023.
02:29And he did this awesome photography in his office in New York City.
02:34We then have sculpture artist 24K, Fern Espinoza, who reimagined Tinky Winky in his avatar.
02:43And our street art collective, Mural Walls, who we've been working with at Activations
02:47beginning in 2022 when they came to Pride in London with us.
02:51So they have done a 16 by 8 foot mural of the Teletubbies.
02:56During the weekend, the street artists will be on site.
03:00Guests can come in and they can graffiti for themselves.
03:03So they'll get to learn how to do graffiti artwork with the artists themselves.
03:07We'll be taking some of the pieces with us to our next stop in Miami.
03:11We'll also be working with local artists.
03:13We want to continue to engage and grow.
03:16And what this is, is it's really an invitation to play and color outside the lines.
03:21The Teletubbies are so inspirational with their Technicolor world, all the textures
03:26and shapes that they have.
03:27There's so much fun that you can have with this brand.
03:30So we want to use this collective to really inspire.
