00:00Recently, this was uncovered in northern Peru.
00:07It's a massive mural inside what experts believe is an ancient throne room.
00:11Now archaeologists say not only does it depict a woman ruling over the area over a thousand
00:15years ago, but they add this space could have been used by the leader.
00:18The throne room mural depicts a woman amongst sea creatures and a crescent moon.
00:22The images also appear to show the female leader presiding over and receiving visitors,
00:27among other iconography.
00:28The archaeologists say that the mural was made in the 7th century AD, meaning it was
00:33made some 1300 years ago.
00:35And the most amazing thing is that the excavators say they have also identified wear and tear
00:40to the room, which they say means at some point, it was likely occupied, not simply
00:44built for ornament or ceremony.
00:46However, the archaeologists add it is also of great importance, as they say it predates
00:50the Hispanic introduction to the Americas, with the researchers noting, quote, we are
00:54finding new iconography of the pre-Hispanic world.
00:57This iconography has no antecedents.
