00:00The impact of the laser and the landing of the Chinese war ship on the fish is affecting.
00:07This is the last fishing of the fish in the West Philippine Sea in the first 6 months according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:14This is the report of Claycel Pardilla.
00:18The landing of the Chinese war ship on the two ships of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
00:24while the maritime patrols in the West Philippine Sea.
00:28And the landing of the laser in the agency's airplane while conducting a domain awareness flight last week.
00:36These are just a few of the incidents of chaos and invasion of China in the West Philippine Sea.
00:43According to BFAR, the geopolitical tension in the production of fish in the West Philippine Sea has already affected.
00:49According to the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:53101,000 metric tons of fish were caught in the West Philippine Sea in the first 6 months of 2024.
01:00Almost 7,000 metric tons smaller compared to 108,392 metric tons last year at the same time.
01:09Geopolitical situation which we can say that's one of the reasons.
01:16There are other reasons like the increase of fuel and the line that passed and affected the migration pattern of fish.
01:27We don't intend to actually ignore this fact that the contribution of the West Philippine Sea declined significantly
01:43in the overall production of our national production.
01:47So we are taking this seriously.
01:50BFAR will look at the presence of the Philippine Seas.
01:55A 50-meter steel multi-mission offshore vessel and a multi-purpose refrigerated cargo vessel
02:02which is worth one and a half million pesos will be bought by BFAR.
02:07More than Php 665 million worth of vessels and other fishing equipment
02:14is under the Bids and Procurement of BFAR which will be distributed to the Philippine Sea Program.
02:21This will increase the capacity of fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
02:26The government has exhausted all the necessary efforts to actually address the issue.
02:36We will not stop implementing programs that will help our fishermen
02:43as far as improving our capacity in terms of monitoring, controlling, and surveillance.
02:49Aside from that, our other floating assets have multi-mission ports.
02:55We want to use them for tide-loop development.
02:59Despite the situation in the West Philippine Sea, BFAR will insure it.
03:04The supply here in Metro Manila has been insufficient.
03:09This has not affected the price.
03:14Taking into account that our country has a lot of fisheries.
03:19Our source of fish is not only from the marine, but also from aquaculture.
03:28In the last quarter of the year,
03:30the implementation of the Closed Fishing Season in Davao Gulf, Palawan, and other places in the country
03:37is expected to improve the increase of fish.
03:40Although the local supply will be reduced,
03:45the arrival of imported fish approved by BFAR is expected.
03:50Kalei Zalpardilla for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
