00:00Now, a manhunt is still underway here in South Africa after 18 people were killed in a mass
00:05shooting on Friday evening in the Eastern Cape in the remote town of Lusikisiki.
00:13Authorities say that the victims were mainly women, 15 women amongst them.
00:18The youngest was a 14-year-old boy.
00:21There were six survivors, one including a two-month-old baby.
00:27The authorities say that the victims were gathering in two households on the same street,
00:32preparing for a traditional mourning ceremony for a mother and a daughter who were murdered
00:37last year when they were killed.
00:40Perpetrators are still on the loose.
00:41President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid his condolences to the families of the victims and said that
00:46these people will be caught.
00:48Now, mass shootings are uncommon in South Africa, although the country has one of the
00:54highest murder rates in the world.
00:57In fact, it's seven times higher than that in the US, which is known for its mass shootings.
01:05Relatives of those who were killed in this gruesome attack have come out and spoken to
01:10local media saying they want more control of illegal firearms and more policing, particularly
01:16in remote towns like Lusikisiki.
