00:00In a new interview, Sabrina Carpenter is admitting she's no stranger to criticism,
00:03just like the pop legends before her. In a recent TIME interview cover story,
00:06the 25-year-old pop star discussed how her openness about her sexuality has led to backlash,
00:12similar to those that face similar backlash like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
00:16Known for her music videos that have quite the violence in them from the likes of Feather and
00:20even Taste with a cameo with Jenner Ortega, Carpenter has gotten a lot of critics in her
00:24time, particularly around her fashion choices. She stated, quote,
00:27You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing,
00:31and to that I just say, don't come to the show. Carpenter emphasizes that dressing how you feel
00:35is comfortable and crucial, especially when performing. The star has had a multitude of
00:39outfits turn some heads at the VMAs and so many more when she has chosen to embrace this sexuality,
00:44similar to those like Britney Spears, who also faced heat for her choices.
00:48Sabrina went on to mention in the interview that the scariest thing is getting up on stage in front
00:52of so many people. If the one thing that helps you is how you dress, then that's what you've
00:56gotta do, she mentions. She also shared her thoughts on social media criticism,
00:59saying that she is the only one seeing all the negative stuff about herself,
01:03and her friends don't see that. Despite the challenges, Carpenter continues to shine.
