00:00KTK News is your local election headquarters. A high stakes debate
00:05between Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and U. S. Senator J. D. Vance from Ohio
00:10last night. This was the first time the two vice presidential candidates faced
00:14off in the only time the candidates touched on Iran's a strike on Israel,
00:19the economy and border security. This morning on Fox 51 East Texas party
00:25chairs gave their takes on their candidates debate performance. David
00:29Stein, chair of the Smith County G. O. P. Says Senator Vance one because he
00:34focused on the issues. Take a listen. I think he was focused. I think he was
00:40prepared. He was passionate about this country. I think that he displayed that
00:46and I was pleased with how well that he did. He focused. He continued to focus
00:52my opinion on the issues on the Democratic side. Smith County Party
00:57chair Hector Garza responded to criticisms that Governor Walz was
01:02underprepared last night. As far as underprepared, I think that it was more
01:07like he's not used to it. This is barely coming in debates. He's new at
01:11it, so he could have been a little bit nervous, could have been a little bit,
01:15you know, not being used to have. He done pretty good last night as far as
01:18presentation. As far as being out there, vice presidential debates usually
01:23don't have much of an impact on the race, but this one took on more
01:27significance because it could be the final showdown on the debate stage at
01:31this election cycle since a second presidential debate between former
01:35President Trump and Kamala Harris has not been set.
