UCA revealed the behind-the-scenes of a Netflix show who filmed at the campus.
Season 3 of “Heartstopper” has returned to screens and the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has revealed what happened when Netflix came to Farnham.
UCA’s Farnham campus was transformed into the Lambert School of Art – where one of the show’s main characters, Elle played by Yasmin Finney is a student.
The University saw its illustration department turned into an art studio, green room and staging area, its music studios became a radio station.
Alice Oseman, the author of the graphic novel series told Netflix:“While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more.”
Tao Xu, played by William Gao, joined Elle in scenes shot at UCA, which also included scenes with her parents and new friends from Lambert School of Art – Naomi, played by Bel Priestley, and Felix played by Ash Self.
Ash added “To focus so much on the joy that can come with being trans in the community is so refreshing,”
UCA students also got an opportunity to get involved with the production, working as supporting actors and assisting the production team.
Ffion Austin, an acting student said: “I found the experience surprising – I wasn’t expecting it to be so friendly and chilled. When you’re not filming you're sitting with people and making new friends. I now know what to expect and how to approach the industry in the future – how to prepare, relax into it, and not worry.”
You can watch Season 3 of Heartstopper on Netflix now and tune in to episodes 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 to see UCA’s starring role!

00:00Hi my name is Fionn. Today I am doing extra work for Heartstopper on Netflix.
00:05The experience has been really really good. The cast, everyone is just really nice.
00:09Today I've been shadowing the sound department. I feel like the sound plays a
00:12really big part. It really enhances the actors and immerses you into the world
00:18that a film is in. Today we're filming Heartstopper. I'm Joseph Batten. I'm the
00:22on-set visual effects supervisor. My job on set is to get color charts,
00:26crumbles and basically everything we need. So you can take different elements,
00:30splice them together with other footage or generate totally different things in
00:34CGI and then add that in. I wasn't expecting it to be so friendly. It's just
00:40really interesting because it's giving me insight to what will be in the future.
00:44Being able to hear all the different emotions and people's voices is gonna
00:48help me a load. Filming today was really chilled out and they instruct you around
00:52chilled vibes.
