00:00Hello and welcome back to another exciting TechConnect video.
00:03In this video, we are taking a deep dive into the eSight Go,
00:06taking a look at its buttons and features,
00:09just waiting for Corey so we can start the video.
00:11Oh wait, there he is. Let's go.
00:14As Luke mentioned,
00:22we are taking a look at the brand new eSight Go.
00:26If you've been following our channel or at least
00:28the evolution of the eSight device,
00:30you will know that this is the fifth iteration, I would say.
00:33We have a number of videos on the past eSight devices.
00:37We actually had an unboxing of the brand new eSight Go.
00:41So when you're done with this one,
00:42or maybe even pause this one and go check out that first.
00:45Yeah, because then you get an idea of what comes
00:46included with it and what we thought about the box.
00:49Yeah.
00:49How many ply card the box was.
00:51Sixteen, I believe is what we just determined.
00:53Well, you have to watch the video and find out.
00:55Also, we did a great interview with Jeanette,
00:59who works for Gen Techs,
01:00who now owns, who purchased eSight.
01:04Go check that out. It was one of
01:06our most recent Tech Connect Lives.
01:08We spent about 45 minutes or more talking with her.
01:11She's an employee, but also a user and has been for
01:14a lot of years and provided a lot of great information.
01:17But today, as we promised,
01:19everybody has been asking for it.
01:21We are going to dive deep into the eSight Go,
01:24and we have a lot of tests that we are going to cover today.
01:28First, we're going to talk about the hardware overview.
01:32We'll just give a little brief synopsis of the device,
01:35the button layout.
01:36Then we're going to run some tests.
01:37We're going to do a close-up test.
01:40So reading a book, some kind of material.
01:42We're going to do distance using it,
01:45looking at far in the distance.
01:46Different distances as well.
01:48We will do multiple distances under one test though.
01:51Oh, okay.
01:52We'll also do a test on color sensitivity.
01:57We'll do a test on low-light performance.
01:59How does it work in low-light situations?
02:03We're going to take a look at how does it perform
02:04when trying to watch TV.
02:06And last, we're going to take it outside and see how it does
02:10in conditions that maybe are very sunny,
02:13although I'm not sure today is super sunny.
02:17But we're going to put it through its paces.
02:19All of these tests are feedback that we've gotten
02:22from viewers that ask questions about our other wearables.
02:25And so we want to make sure we give you everything
02:27that you're looking for.
02:28So stick with us.
02:31Before we dive into some of the tests,
02:33we should go over the hardware overview.
02:35Otherwise you're not going to know how to use it, Luke.
02:38You need to pay attention as I talk about this.
02:42There's actually two main pieces to the eSight Go.
02:44First, we're going to talk about the battery pack.
02:47So the way they've designed it this time
02:49is kind of a horseshoe design
02:51that actually fits around your neck.
02:53And then the batteries on each side
02:56and they kind of lean against your shoulder blades.
02:59Quite comfortable.
03:00I don't really feel it at all when it's on.
03:03I think it's a smart design.
03:05Keeps the weight down, especially from the headset.
03:08There's really only two main things that you need to know
03:11about the battery pack.
03:12First, on the back, there is a USB-C port.
03:16That's going to be used to both charge your battery pack,
03:19but also it's used to connect your battery pack
03:21directly to the eSight Go glasses.
03:24And then right above that,
03:26you're going to find a single button.
03:27Pressing that button will light up four LEDs.
03:30Yes, you got it.
03:31And that will let you know your battery status visually.
03:35But the eSight Go will also show you your battery status
03:38on the glasses and speak it out verbally.
03:41But if you don't have your eSight Go glasses connected,
03:44then you can just get a quick overview
03:46of what your battery status looks like.
03:48Interestingly, with the previous eSight,
03:50you could shake the batteries to see the LED indicators.
03:53Is that right?
03:54I didn't even know they did that.
03:54Yeah, it was actually really hard to do though.
03:55So I'm glad that they put a button on this one instead.
03:57I think too many people shook it
03:59and they flew out of their hands and broke a window.
04:01So it's probably good that they did that.
04:03Moving on to the second piece
04:05and obviously probably the most important piece,
04:07that is the eSight Go glasses themselves.
04:10I find these to be pretty good.
04:12Now, are they traditional sunglasses or glasses?
04:16No, we're not there yet.
04:18But I would say it's getting pretty close
04:20and these might be one of the closest there.
04:23I think the arms are a little thicker than you would expect
04:26and the glasses themselves are still thicker.
04:28But all in all, it's a pretty light device and comfortable.
04:33I believe the headset and the battery pack together
04:37weighs a little over 13 ounces.
04:39So it's pretty light all in all.
04:41Yeah, just one quick thing as well,
04:43for those who aren't familiar with wearables,
04:45this device has got a camera in the front
04:47and video screens on the inside.
04:48And so as you are wearing the device,
04:50you are seeing on the video screens
04:52what the camera is looking at
04:53and then you can adjust the image through magnification
04:55and various other features.
04:57Yeah, which will be shown.
04:57I do believe the camera is mounted right in the center,
05:00right above my nose.
05:01And as Luke said, there's screens in front of each of my eyes
05:07which obviously makes the glass,
05:09the front part thicker than you would expect
05:11because it's housing all that electronics in there.
05:14While the glasses are on,
05:15they are pretty comfortable all in all.
05:19If you saw our unboxing,
05:21you notice it came with four different ear pieces.
05:24Ear pieces?
05:24Nose pieces is what I meant to say.
05:27So you wanna make sure you adjust and get the right one
05:29so that the glasses are kind of seated correctly
05:33on your face so that their screens
05:35are lined up with your eyes.
05:37Or if it's feeling uncomfortable,
05:38make sure that you have the right nose piece in.
05:43Buttons, on the left arm,
05:45we have starting from my ear and moving towards the front.
05:49The first thing we come to is not a button,
05:51but actually the USB-C port.
05:53As I mentioned on the battery pack,
05:57there's a USB-C port.
05:58So we're gonna run a short USB cable
06:01from our eSight Go glasses to the battery pack
06:05and that's how they're powered.
06:07Moving towards my temple,
06:10we're gonna have one single button
06:13and that's our power button.
06:14Holding it down will wake it up
06:15and power it on or power it off.
06:19Tapping it once will either put it to sleep
06:22or wake it back up,
06:23depending on what status it's currently in.
06:26Exactly.
06:27On the right-hand side,
06:28if we start again back from my ear and move up,
06:31the first button we have is our settings button.
06:34Pressing that once brings us into settings.
06:36Holding it down freezes the image,
06:38which you'll show us later.
06:40As we continue to move away from my ear,
06:43the first button we come to now,
06:45or I should say our second button,
06:47is the volume down key or the down arrow.
06:51Depending on what mode you're in,
06:53it's going to adjust volume or color contrast,
06:57whatever you might be in or contrast, I should say.
07:00As we continue moving, we have a up button.
07:03That's obviously going to do the opposite.
07:05Opposite of the down.
07:06Very good.
07:07Our last button closest to our tempo
07:10is going to be the mode button.
07:14Pressing this is going to switch through the different modes,
07:17which Luke will be showing us in just a moment.
07:20Pressing and holding it will actually reset our view
07:23and kind of take us back to the default mode.
07:26So now that we know what all the buttons are
07:29and we know how to use the device,
07:31let's dive in and do our first test,
07:33which will be utilizing it for a closeup or reading tasks.
07:38Koei, let's go.
07:40E-Sight Go?
07:44Before we jump into our test,
07:45we did want to mention the E-Sight Go companion app.
07:49This allows you to do a couple of cool things.
07:50First, it does allow you to connect your glasses
07:53to a wifi network.
07:55You can do it from the glasses,
07:56but from the app's a little bit easier.
07:58And secondly, you can share your view.
08:01So any sighted friends or family or trainers
08:05can see what you're seeing through your glasses
08:08on their screen,
08:09making it a way for them to help you
08:12and take part in what you're seeing.
08:15And that's how we're recording the footage today, Koei,
08:17just recording from our phone screen.
08:18We are.
08:19Yep, so hopefully it's working well.
08:20And here we are going to start the first test,
08:22which is reading up close.
08:23Obviously, Koei, this is something
08:24that a lot of people want to be able to do.
08:26Yes.
08:27And it's not necessarily the easiest thing
08:29to do with wearables,
08:30because it can be hard to keep your head steady
08:32as you're trying to track sentences when they're magnified.
08:34So not necessarily the best way to read,
08:37but it is something a lot of people want to do.
08:39So to do the test with the eSight, Koei,
08:41I have my favorite book,
08:43and I'm sure you're familiar with this one.
08:44Yes.
08:45I Love You More, Baby Saw.
08:46Oh, I love you too.
08:47Oh, sorry.
08:48Yes, that is one of my favorites.
08:50So we're going to go ahead and zoom in on this book
08:52and look at some of the pictures on the text
08:54and change the colors.
08:55But Koei, we also have another nifty feature,
08:57which is unique to the eSight Go,
08:59and that would be the tilt function.
09:01And that allows us to tilt the camera down
09:03in order to see things which are kind of,
09:05you know, below our eye level
09:07without having to bend our neck so much.
09:09So for reading, that's really nice
09:10because you're not having to crank your neck
09:11in order to see the book.
09:13So I'm excited to try that out.
09:14I'm going to go ahead and use my mode button here.
09:17We're going to go through to where it says tilt.
09:20And now I'm going to use the down arrow to reduce the tilt,
09:23and that will basically bring the camera down.
09:25This is a digital tilt here, not an analog tilt,
09:28but it doesn't really make a difference.
09:30I've just tilted down, and now I can see the book
09:32even though I'm holding it fairly low
09:34and I'm not actually cranking my neck at all at the moment.
09:36So this is really nice and comfortable.
09:39So I can see the title, I Love You More, Baby Saw.
09:41I'm going to switch the mode back to magnification
09:44and we'll zoom in on the title here.
09:49I'm at zoom five.
09:49This is quite large and I can read it.
09:51Now I'm not visually impaired.
09:52However, I do have a high hyperopic glasses prescription
09:55and I can't read without my glasses on.
09:57And I don't have my glasses on at the moment,
10:00but I am able to read this nice and comfortably
10:02now that I have zoomed in.
10:03The zoom goes up to 24 times, Corey,
10:06so that's best in class for these wearables.
10:08You can really make things very large, which is nice.
10:11Here's the picture of the dinosaur.
10:13We have a, I'm going to say Diplodocus,
10:15although I think they might have been renamed.
10:17Any ideas, Corey?
10:19What are Diplodocuses called these days?
10:21No.
10:22Okay, good.
10:23If you know, please put it in the comments.
10:26But the color reproduction is very nice.
10:28It looks quite naturalistic.
10:29It's not too overhyped or anything.
10:32Sometimes the overhyping of the colors can be helpful
10:35just to help you kind of see what colors there are.
10:37But this one does look really nice.
10:39I'm going to go ahead and open the page here.
10:41And again, I've got a picture here.
10:43Very nice color reproduction.
10:44Let's look at the words.
10:45Now these are a little fuzzy to me
10:46just because again, I haven't got my glasses on.
10:48So I'm going to zoom up a little bit higher.
10:50Oops.
10:51Let's get back to the zoom here.
10:54Six, six, six, nine.
10:56Okay, I'm on the zoom nine at the moment.
10:58I can read, you make my heart soar.
11:01That's S-A-U-R, dinosaur fans.
11:04Above trees and mountains too.
11:06So yes, I'm able to read that pretty good.
11:08Now there is image stabilization going on here, Corey.
11:11And so it's not, the image isn't jumping about too much,
11:14which is pretty cool because at this level of magnification,
11:18oftentimes people do struggle with the image bouncing around.
11:21And this seems to be a newer feature
11:23that's starting to be added.
11:24We saw it in the iDaptic 5, right?
11:27And now we're seeing it in the new eSight Go,
11:29this image stabilization.
11:31And I think it's going to make a big difference for wearables.
11:34That's always been an issue is that jitteriness,
11:36especially on your head when you're talking
11:38or moving your head around.
11:39Yeah, that's exactly.
11:40I think it's always been there to some extent,
11:42but it just seems to be a lot better now.
11:43Sure.
11:44I mean, I'm literally talking while wearing this
11:46and the image is staying really stable.
11:48So I think they've done a fantastic job
11:49with the image stabilization here.
11:51Let's zoom up a little higher and let's see.
11:55So I'm on the 17 times now, which is really quite high.
11:59And you can see like a little bit of fuzziness
12:02at the higher magnification levels here.
12:03That's pretty normal for this type of device.
12:05It's certainly not unusable
12:07and it's certainly a really nice size.
12:09So that's good.
12:10Let's quickly try out some of the color modes here.
12:12So I'm going to switch into the color filters mode
12:17and I'll see what colors we've got available here.
12:20Okay, so we have a gray scale.
12:21This is just black and white
12:23and that's working absolutely fine.
12:26And now we have white text on a black background.
12:29Now, unfortunately, as I move my head here,
12:32the image kind of glitches out a little bit
12:34and becomes, well, you guys should be able
12:37to see what's happening,
12:38but it's a lot of noise in the image basically.
12:41So when you don't have that noise,
12:43it looks really nice and sharp, deep blacks
12:45and sharp whites, but yeah,
12:48the noise really makes it a little unusable.
12:50Just adjusting your zoom level,
12:54if you bring your zoom level down,
12:55does that decrease the noise at all
12:57or is it sort of across the board?
12:59So let me reduce the magnification.
13:01We'll check it out here.
13:04Yeah, and I got to say, Corey,
13:05that did make a big difference.
13:06Yeah, so it's a lot better now.
13:08It is still having some funky effects
13:10around the outside of the text,
13:13which is inside like an oval.
13:15So weirdly now, outside of the oval,
13:17it's kind of glitching out,
13:18but inside the oval where the text is,
13:19it's all nice and clear.
13:20So yeah, it's kind of interesting.
13:22I mean, there is obviously some processing going on here.
13:25And so it's trying to figure out
13:27kind of how to apply this color.
13:28And it looks like maybe the algorithm
13:30needs to be tweaked a little bit
13:31just to get the most out of it,
13:32which I'm sure they could do in a future update.
13:34Let's just check out some of the other colors real quick here
13:36and see what we have available.
13:38So we're on white and black at the moment.
13:40We also have a black text on a white background
13:43and that one's actually looking pretty good,
13:45probably better than the white text on a black background.
13:48And then we have a blue text on a yellow background,
13:51yellow text on a blue background.
13:53That's probably my favorite one.
13:54Yeah, that looks really nice.
13:55And then back to normal.
13:56So not too many choices, but they've got the important ones.
13:59It's just a shame that there's that kind of weird issue
14:02with the noise there.
14:04But yeah, if you can get it so that that noise is reduced
14:07and maybe it does take reducing the magnification,
14:10then it does look pretty nice.
14:12And you've been using the buttons on the device itself
14:14to control it, but it does come with a wireless remote,
14:17which our box unfortunately had a little apology note.
14:21Yeah, it did.
14:22And then one thing I didn't mention
14:23is I talked about the companion app
14:26that if you do share your view, when you do so,
14:29you have some virtual controls that pop up on your device,
14:33your iPhone, your Android,
14:35and you can control it that way too.
14:36But you've been just using the built-in one.
14:38Yeah, just the buttons.
14:39It's really easy to operate
14:40because there's not too many buttons
14:41and there's not too many choices.
14:43I'm looking at a magazine now
14:44just to take a look at some of the pictures on here.
14:46It's a glossy magazine.
14:47And again, color reproduction, as far as I can tell, is nice.
14:50I think the colors look natural,
14:53but also they kind of do pop in it in a way,
14:55which makes it easy to see them.
14:57And we'll just quickly look at some of the text in here.
14:59This would be standard size magazine prints.
15:01So a little bit smaller
15:02than what you would get in a children's book,
15:03like I was just reading.
15:04And we'll use our zoom here.
15:06And let's get it up to 21 times.
15:10Okay, so we're really pumped up
15:12and we are starting to see some of that fuzziness
15:14a bit more now, Corey.
15:15So the image is definitely a little fuzzier,
15:18but it's still like the stabilization
15:20is still working well.
15:22Good.
15:22And I am able to read the words here.
15:25Now, obviously, results are gonna vary
15:27depending on your vision loss.
15:29But for me, this is working pretty good.
15:32So yeah, all in all, Corey,
15:35I do think it will be feasible to read with the eSight.
15:37And that's one of the challenging things for a wearable.
15:39So pretty good so far.
15:41Would you say it passed the reading test?
15:45I think it did.
15:46I think it passed the reading test.
15:47I won't ask for a grade.
15:48No, no, no.
15:49We'll do a pass fail.
15:50Yeah, yeah.
15:51And you know, obviously results will vary
15:52depending on the individual.
15:53So I don't like to say definitively
15:55that this is the answer for you.
15:57However, I did find that to work pretty well.
15:59So why don't we move on to the next test, Corey?
16:01And we can see how this thing works
16:03while looking into the distance.
16:06Okay, so we saw how this performs up close,
16:08but let's take a look into the distance.
16:10I have my lovely assistant, Corey Ballard,
16:13ready with a chart and we're going to try reading it.
16:16So first things first, let's rotate toward Corey here.
16:19And he is with the Snellen chart there.
16:21It does say for use at five feet,
16:22but we've got him at 10 feet away at the moment.
16:25I'm going to go ahead and zoom in
16:26and I'm going to see what I'm able to read on the chart.
16:28Now, just for comparison's sake,
16:30with the glasses off, I can't read anything on the chart.
16:34So that's where we're starting from.
16:36Hold on.
16:37Nope, I can't read anything either.
16:39Can't keep it checking.
16:40So let's go ahead and zoom in here.
16:43All right, I am at 10 times at the moment
16:47and I'm starting to be able to read the letters on the chart
16:50and we have an F and a P at the top and an L, F, E, D.
16:53Still a little hard for me to read though
16:55and I can't read what's under that second line.
16:57So I'm going to zoom up a little further here.
17:01Now I'm on 17 times and it really has started
17:04to become a lot clearer at this point.
17:07So I can clearly see the F and the P at the start.
17:09L, P, E, D, and then an E, D, F, C, Z, P,
17:13a D, E, F, P, O, T, E, C.
17:17And underneath that, I'm struggling a little bit.
17:20Let me try and zoom in a touch more.
17:24I'm at 22 times now, almost at the maximum.
17:27I can read the next line, L, E, R, O, D, F, G, T, I think
17:33but it is a little fuzzy and the bottom line,
17:35unfortunately, I'm not able to read.
17:37But having read most of the lines there,
17:40when I couldn't read any of the lines before,
17:42that's obviously a big improvement.
17:44Now, Corey is currently at 10 feet away
17:47but let's put this thing to the limits.
17:50We're going to ask Corey to step back a few more steps
17:53and we'll see what we can do.
17:54Corey, are you able to step back a few more steps?
17:56Sure, what would you like me to go to?
17:5815?
17:59Let's try and go to 15.
17:59There is a tree behind you, so be a little bit careful.
18:01Okay, so I'm at 10.
18:02We'll do, I'm taking bigger steps.
18:06That's probably about 15.
18:07Let's go back a touch more.
18:08Touch more?
18:09Yeah, let's really try and put this to its paces.
18:11Okay, let's stop there.
18:11So we're quite far back,
18:13maybe between 15 and 20 here at the moment.
18:16And again, we'll go ahead and zoom in
18:18and just see how this works.
18:19So I'm going to go up to, all right.
18:23So at 20, then it's, you know,
18:26the larger ones are starting to be nice and comfortable.
18:28So we've got F, B, L, D, E, D, E, D, R, C, ooh, Z, P.
18:34Okay, I think that's right.
18:36And then we're going to zoom a little bit more.
18:42And okay, unfortunately, that was the third line down.
18:45I was just reading.
18:46Unfortunately, the fourth line down this time
18:49is just a little bit too fuzzy.
18:50I can see a couple of letters in E and R,
18:53G and a T maybe.
18:54But yeah, it's a little bit tricky.
18:56Now let's try and do this though.
18:58Instead of zooming in all the way
19:00and doing the live magnification,
19:01I'm actually going to do the image freeze,
19:03which Corby had mentioned before.
19:04So we can hold down the settings button
19:06that will freeze the image.
19:07So I'm going to do that.
19:08And the image is now frozen on the screen.
19:11Now at this point, I can magnify the frozen image.
19:13So I'm looking at a picture of the chart this time,
19:16and I'm going to go ahead and zoom in on the picture.
19:19Let me just do this.
19:20Okay, now I'm zooming in on the picture.
19:23I can move my head and it has got gyroscope,
19:26so it will detect my head movement.
19:27And so I can kind of look around the magnified image
19:30and I can see the F, P, L, P, E, D, E, D, F, C, Z, P.
19:35And the line underneath that is still fuzzy,
19:37but I have to say it is easier to read at distance like this
19:41because the image is a lot more stable.
19:43And so it does help me to keep everything steady
19:46as I'm trying to read.
19:47So I do think that freeze will work well
19:49for looking and trying to read things
19:51in the distance for sure.
19:53Rather than just reading from the distance,
19:55Luke, what about if you instead focused on my face,
19:59which maybe is what somebody might be doing
20:02looking at sports or something off in the distance,
20:05are you able to get any features of my handsome face?
20:09You know, I was going to do that, Corey,
20:11but I was slightly scared.
20:12But for the sake of the video, we'll give it a try.
20:14So we're at 19 times here.
20:17Corey's head is basically filling the screen here.
20:20And yeah, I can see-
20:21Sounds about right.
20:21Yeah, it's a large head.
20:23I can see you in good detail here.
20:25I have to say, yeah,
20:26like the features are coming through nicely.
20:28Again, a little bit fuzzier at the higher magnifications,
20:30but I can definitely tell it's you.
20:32So no problems there.
20:34One more thing we're going to try real quick here, Corey,
20:36is we'll try the different colors at distance.
20:39And so I'll look at the chart again here.
20:41And we're going to go to our color filter mode.
20:42Let's see if we still get that noise in the image.
20:45So we'll go ahead and flip over to...
20:49Oops, sorry, I'm on contrast there.
20:50There we go.
20:51Let's flip through to the white on black.
20:54And we'll zoom up just a little bit here.
20:57And yeah, so the white and the blacks, again,
20:59are really nice and kind of really bright whites
21:02and dark blacks.
21:04But unfortunately, the ghosting, sorry,
21:06the noise that we're getting here on the image
21:09kind of makes it unusable to read
21:11at this magnification at this distance.
21:13I can see the largest letters,
21:14but below that, unfortunately, it really gets quite messy.
21:17So again, we do seem to have that same type of issue there
21:21with those color filters, which is unfortunate.
21:24Anyway, I think that's enough distance testing.
21:27We can see there that it does work pretty well
21:28for reading in the distance
21:29and looking at objects in the distance.
21:31And with the level of magnification that you get,
21:34you really can zoom up on things that are quite far away.
21:36So that's pretty nice.
21:38Next thing to do though, Corey,
21:39is test the contrast sensitivity
21:41and see what we can do
21:42if things just need a little bit more contrast.
21:46All right, so time for the contrast sensitivity test.
21:49And luckily, with the booklet that eSight provide,
21:51we do actually have some numbers on a page
21:54which are getting less and less contrasty
21:56and we can use the contrast adjustment on the eSight
21:59to hopefully make those a little easier to see.
22:01So let's see how it works.
22:02I'm going to turn toward Corey here.
22:03We are in zoom mode at the moment.
22:04So I'm going to go ahead and zoom up on this page.
22:08Here we go.
22:10Okay, and at the top of the page,
22:12we have numbers which are pretty dark here.
22:14So we're starting without needing any contrast enhancement.
22:16We can see a 2, 3, 6, 3, 5, a 3, 9, 4, 1, 7.
22:20Hey, that's my phone number.
22:22Yeah.
22:23And after that though,
22:24things are starting to get pretty difficult to see,
22:27a lot less contrast.
22:28So this is where we're going to use the contrast function
22:30of the eSight to bring those into sharper relief.
22:33I'm going to go ahead and go to the contrast mode.
22:35I'm going to hit the up arrow here
22:39and we're starting to add contrast.
22:45And I'm on contrast 4 currently.
22:47And I can definitely see a couple more lines here,
22:50nice and clearly.
22:52So I've got a 1, 3, 8, 2, 6, and a 6, 8, 9, 4, 5.
22:55Now there is one more line here that I just,
22:58it's just not quite in sharp enough relief yet.
23:00Let me see if I can increase the contrast even more.
23:06Okay, and it's not really helping on that bottom line.
23:09Let me try some magnification instead here.
23:16Yeah.
23:17So 2, 9, 4, 7, 9, could that be right?
23:21It's something like that.
23:22It's definitely still quite washed out.
23:23So we're not quite getting that bottom line,
23:25but we are, again, about 10 feet away here.
23:27So this is a distance test, remember.
23:29And this contrast could be used up close
23:31or in the distance,
23:32depending on what you're trying to look at.
23:33And it does appear like it's done a pretty good job
23:36for the most part of enhancing the contrast.
23:38Now we do have some of those kind of weird visual glitches
23:41that we've already discussed
23:43with some of those color filter modes.
23:45There is a little bit of that going on
23:47with the contrast mode here as well.
23:48And so that's something to be aware of,
23:50but it did seem to be a lot more controlled
23:52than with some of those color filters.
23:54So definitely a useful feature to have.
23:56If you need a little bit more contrast,
23:58just get into the mode and give it a try.
24:02Okay, so now for the low light test.
24:04I know a lot of people do ask for this test
24:06when we do wearable demonstrations,
24:08and we want to see how it's going to perform
24:10in low light conditions.
24:11Now I'm well lit at the moment
24:13because I have a studio light on me,
24:14but this room is actually quite dark.
24:16Corey, how dark do you think the room is right now?
24:18Very dark.
24:19Very dark.
24:20On a scale of dark to very dark,
24:22we're currently two slots down from very dark.
24:25Okay, fair enough.
24:26Now, obviously this is a camera-based device,
24:28so we do need a light in order for it to work.
24:31So we can't just make it pitch black,
24:33but it is pretty darn dark in here right now.
24:36We want to see how well the eSight does
24:39in brightening up the image for us.
24:40So Corey is still over there, bless his heart,
24:43and he's holding the booklet from eSight.
24:47And Corey, what page are we turned to at the moment?
24:49Today we're finding out if you can tell the time
24:51with an analog clock.
24:53Not many people can anymore.
24:54Yeah, I was going to say,
24:54that's a big challenge just by itself,
24:56nevermind in the dark with a wearable.
24:57But let's go ahead and zoom in on this
24:59and we'll see what this looks like.
25:03And yep, I can easily tell that that is quarter past nine.
25:07Actually, do you know what?
25:08The minute hand and the second hand look,
25:11and the hour hand, sorry, look to be the same length,
25:13so that's slightly confusing.
25:14But yeah, there's a hand on the nine
25:16and a hand on the three.
25:18I can see you, Corey, without any problem at all.
25:21And I can see what you're holding there
25:23without any problem at all.
25:24I'm looking around the room here
25:25and it's really quite bright already.
25:28Now, something that you pointed out, Corey,
25:30when we tried to film this video before.
25:32When you called me stupid.
25:33When I may have said something unkind to you,
25:36is that the screens have adjustable brightness.
25:40And actually that does a really good job
25:42of brightening things up even more.
25:44So if we go into our settings menu here,
25:47and I'm gonna go down to the settings
25:50and we'll go to brightness.
25:52By default, it's set to auto,
25:53so the screens will automatically adjust,
25:55but I'm gonna turn that off.
25:56We're gonna go into manual here
25:58and we're gonna try our screens at 100%.
26:03And they are now super bright.
26:05Like the screens really get very bright,
26:07which I think a lot of people will like that.
26:09Now, obviously it's gonna impact your battery life,
26:11but let's see how that changes things here.
26:15For you guys watching,
26:16you're probably not gonna see the effect of this
26:18in the screen recording,
26:20because this is actually the screens inside the headset
26:22and how bright they are.
26:23But I am gonna report to you
26:24that this does make a massive difference.
26:26Things are even brighter now.
26:28It literally looks like daytime at this point.
26:30Now, the image is a little grainy
26:32and you would expect that
26:33because it's having to compensate
26:35for the low light conditions.
26:36But everything is still perfectly recognizable
26:39and I'm really quite impressed
26:40with the low light performance here.
26:43So yeah, if you're in the market for a device
26:45which improves your low light vision,
26:48then definitely give this one a try.
26:49I think it's one of the better ones.
26:52Obviously something that a lot of people like to do
26:54with their wearable is watch television.
26:56And so here I am checking out my TV.
26:59This is around a 65 or 70 inch television
27:01and I'm around 15 feet away from it.
27:03It's mounted on the wall here.
27:05Up on the screen, I have a very handsome gentleman
27:07who appears to be wearing a pair of glasses
27:09very similar to the ones that I've got on.
27:11And let's go ahead and see what this looks like.
27:13So I'm running this through my laptop
27:15actually directly to the television screen.
27:18And let's zoom up just a little bit here.
27:24Now, yeah, so this actually looks pretty nice.
27:26I'm only seeing a portion of the screen at the moment
27:29because I am obviously zoomed in on it.
27:31So I do have to move my head around
27:34in order to see things here.
27:36It does look nice.
27:36The color reproduction in particular,
27:38I think is very nice looking.
27:40I'm in a decently lit room at the moment.
27:44So this would be, I think, the amount of lighting
27:46that most people would have
27:47as they were watching television.
27:49And yeah, I'm pretty impressed.
27:51Like I'm not getting any kind of like,
27:52you know, scan lines or anything.
27:54The color reproduction is nice.
27:56There may be a little bit of fuzziness,
27:58but it's hard to tell because again,
28:00I don't have my glasses on.
28:01And so that might just be my vision here.
28:04But pretty darn impressed.
28:06Now this eSight doesn't have the ability
28:08to input video over HDMI,
28:11which previous models have done.
28:12And so if you were to watch television,
28:14you would have to be looking at the television screen.
28:16But from what I can tell here,
28:18that would work actually pretty nicely.
28:20Now, because I'm running this from my laptop,
28:21I can actually look at my laptop screen here.
28:24I'm gonna use my tilt function
28:26just to help get the camera down a little bit.
28:29And so now I'm looking at my laptop screen.
28:32That's obviously a lot closer.
28:33We're talking about a couple of feet away.
28:36And again, it's looking pretty nice at the moment.
28:39Maybe it might look a bit yellow to you.
28:42That's because I have my nightlight on.
28:43And so it's kind of reducing the amount of blue light.
28:46But yeah, it looks pretty true
28:48to what the laptop screen actually looks like.
28:50Now we've just switched into some ads here.
28:53But that certainly seems to be quite usable.
28:55So yeah, from what I can tell here,
28:58if you're looking at an electronic screen,
29:00I think the eSight Go might be a decent device for the job.
29:03Really seems to be good in terms of color reproduction
29:05and in terms of the clarity of the image as well.
29:08So if you're in the market for a wearable for television,
29:10you could do a lot worse than trying this one out.
29:15Well, here we are outside
29:16in the Vision Forward parking lot.
29:17And we're gonna test the eSight Go
29:19looking at things in the distance.
29:21First of all, I'm gonna take a look over here.
29:23And I do have a motor vehicle and it has a sign on it.
29:27So we're gonna zoom in and see how that looks.
29:31Okay, and I'm on a 21 times zoom.
29:33So I am quite zoomed in here.
29:36And I can see that it's a Vision Forward logo
29:37and it says Vision Forward.
29:38Now I'm gonna estimate I am 100 feet away from that van.
29:42What do we think?
29:43100 feet away from the van?
29:46It's looking a little bit more like 92 and a half.
29:49Okay, Corey says 92 and a half and Jonathan says 80.
29:52I'm probably gonna go with the 80 on this one.
29:54Sorry, Corey.
29:55So about 80 feet away and I'm at almost the maximum zoom.
29:59And yes, it is a little fuzzy, but I can make it out.
30:01Now there's a number of signs down here
30:03that are at the end of parking spaces.
30:05And the one that's at the same distance away from the car,
30:08unfortunately, it's too fuzzy.
30:10I'm not able to say what it says.
30:11So let's start looking down the line here.
30:14And as I look down the line, they are getting closer.
30:17And I'm able to read one, let's see,
30:20that's probably, I'm gonna say 40 or 35 feet in front of me.
30:25I can read that that's a reserved parking sign.
30:28Now it is still a little bit fuzzy,
30:30but I am able to make out what it is.
30:31And yeah, there's a sign even closer here
30:34and that one is even sharper.
30:37So little difficult to read in the distance
30:39if it's a long way away, as you might expect.
30:41But just looking around at the cars and things like that,
30:44I'm able to obviously make out the shapes
30:46of the cars pretty nicely.
30:47No big problems there.
30:48And I can see the screens pretty clearly.
30:51Now it's not the sunniest of days here at the moment.
30:54So that probably plays a part,
30:57but the screens are easily visible.
30:59And of course I could go into the settings here
31:02and I could change the brightness of the screens as well.
31:04And so if it was a brighter day,
31:07I always have the option of setting manually
31:10the brightness of the screens
31:11just to see if that makes a difference.
31:14So I just changed them manually to 100%,
31:17but I think they were actually already at 100%
31:21because it looks pretty much the same here.
31:23So maybe this is as bright as they go.
31:25But yeah, certainly not too bad.
31:27Again, results may vary,
31:29but it does seem to be working pretty well
31:32on this particular day, which is a little bit overcast.
31:36All right, we have performed all of our tests.
31:38Do you remember how many tests you did?
31:40I believe that was a total of eight, nine tests.
31:43Well, number one was the overview and then eight tests.
31:47So you were right and wrong at the same time.
31:49Very good, very good.
31:50So all of our tests are done.
31:52We gave a grade at the end of the reading
31:55and then we never gave another grade.
31:57So now that it's all over, what would you give?
31:59Pass, fail?
32:00Overall pass, definitely.
32:02I'm a fan of the eSight.
32:03Some of the things that I liked,
32:04the screen brightness is very good.
32:06You can get the screens nice and bright.
32:07Magnification level up to 24 times,
32:09which is a lot of magnification.
32:11Good image stabilization.
32:13I think the design is nice.
32:14It looks basically like a pair of sunglasses.
32:16It was comfortable to wear.
32:18And they've got the basic modes that you would want,
32:20not too complicated.
32:21You know, it's got an easy to understand button layout
32:24and it's simple to do what you want to do.
32:25So overall, Corey, I was pretty impressed.
32:28Good.
32:29Good.
32:31One of the things I think is important to remember
32:33with all wearables is it's really important
32:35to get hands on yourself.
32:36You can watch our video.
32:38We do our best to at least bring you a sampling
32:41of what the device is like.
32:43But at the end of the day,
32:45we're capturing from a phone screen,
32:47from a wifi connection.
32:49And so you might not, you know,
32:50the demos that we show today might not be exactly
32:54what you would get when you put it on yourself.
32:57Plus it doesn't work for everybody.
32:59So it's really important to get hands on.
33:01If you're in the Wisconsin area,
33:03or even if you're not, fly out to Wisconsin, to Milwaukee.
33:07I think I did say in the last unboxing video
33:09that I would buy anyone who came a McDonald's lunch.
33:11You did, yeah.
33:12I might even up the game.
33:13If you mentioned this video and fly in,
33:16I might buy you a lunch from Denny's.
33:19What does one have to do to get a steak and dinner?
33:22You need to fly out, demo, and then buy three of them.
33:27Which you can buy from our Vision Forward store.
33:29But no, most importantly, find a place that does demos
33:33and be able to try them out yourself
33:35to ensure that it is the right device for you.
33:37Just a real quick, Corey,
33:38for those wondering about the field of view,
33:40it is pretty wide.
33:41As long as the headset is sat up by your face,
33:45like fitted properly,
33:45then it is pretty wide field of view,
33:47but not as wide as some of the VR headsets
33:49that we've seen in the past, of course.
33:51Gotcha.
33:52So with all that being said,
33:52well, Corey, we have something else going on.
33:54As well as our produce videos,
33:55we do a live show, TechConnect Live.

35:14I don't know that it matters that much, but.
