00:36the opposite in Sumcayit 45 miles north of the Azerbaijan capital Baku where the
00:44match has to be played behind closed doors it will be eerily quiet
00:49Manojla's hearts target their first win in five months
01:19Dinamo Minsk make one change to Saturday's starting 11 which brought them their
01:29fourth 2-0 win in five games and kept them on track for back-to-back
01:33Belarusian titles club captain Sergei Politevich replaces Denis Polyakov in
01:39central defense 21 year old goalkeeper Fedor Lapukov has broken through to the
01:45Belarus national team and Nigerian Stephen Alfred leads the attack for the
01:51home team

02:27Lauren Shankland carrying so much responsibility for hearts as ever got
02:34his goals up and running at the weekend three changes for hearts and interim

02:47County on Saturday but 19 year old Adam Forrester who made his debut in that
02:53game keeps his place at right back James Penrose replaces Stephen Kingsley left
02:59back George Grant and Kenneth Vargas left out income Blair Spittel and Barry

03:08on and Shanklin looking to add to his tally of six European goals
03:21where do you begin to tell the story of this sorry season for hearts they
03:26finished 12 points clear in the third place in the Premiership at the end of
03:30the last campaign and kicked off this time around with an opening day draw
03:35against Rangers that was followed by eight straight defeats and the sacking
03:41of head coach Stephen Naismith hearts knocked out of the League Cup failed to
03:46qualify for the Europa League they've had their worst start to a league season
03:50since the 1970s two points from seven games and their quest to replace Naismith
03:58is clearly still at an early stage ten days after he was shown the door
04:08the sound of silence in Azerbaijan as hearts prepare to get us started
04:21their conference league campaign begins right here
04:33how will they adjust to empty seats around the ground these hearts players
04:40are used to playing in front of a crackling atmosphere
04:51underway
04:55and soon Kate and it's not bizarre atmosphere where you can hear all the
05:05shouts on the pitch you're gonna hear everything Michael Stewart as well from
05:08the technical areas yeah I mean it's a bizarre occasion to be opening the
05:14European campaign in these circumstances where there is no fans there's no
05:19atmosphere the players are going to have to bring that energy to the game
05:22themselves it's obviously very reminiscent of the Covid times when
05:27there was no fans in the in the stadium and it's not easy it's going to add to
05:33the task here in Azerbaijan to bring a good performance to the game and
05:41and try and reignite this at the season
05:47Dino Mominsk won the league title in Belarus last season for the first time
05:52in nearly 20 years Bate Borisov dominating over the last couple of
05:58decades but Dino back on track to do same again this season there are three
06:04points off the top of the Premier League in Belarus but with three games in hand
06:11a total of ten matches to go their season having started in March pretty
06:16much going through the calendar year
06:24not much doubt about the free kick for the challenge and Kami Devlin yeah just
06:29got in front of Demchenko there you can see getting his body in front looks as
06:33if he maybe just rocked his ankle a little bit there fortunately he's back
06:36up and he's okay he's somebody that obviously plays with a lot of energy and
06:40that type of performance is going to be needed here you just feel it's so
06:47important that hearts get off to a good start
06:49Penrice leaves it Barry McKay swings it in and it's way off target you know
06:57that's it sort of thing is as far from from him helpful Skripchenko the head
07:04coach of Dino Mominsk will be very happy that that's just drifted away from any
07:09danger there you know the start of the game it's important that hearts try and
07:18force things a little bit in terms of territory and get the game into Dino
07:22Mominsk's half and the confidence is going to be so fragile for hearts because
07:28the start of the campaign they've had you know a late goal against Ross
07:31County to try and eventually get a point at home they've got to try and build on
07:36that and starting brightly is the key to that
07:39Alan Forrest and Adam Forrester just off balance as he got maybe caught in two
07:46minds as well between crossing and shooting but it was nicely worked by
07:50hearts and Blair Spittel centrally involved in that build-up as well
07:54yeah well they countered pretty well give a young Adam Forrester a wee get out there
08:01maybe just bobbled up ever so slightly Tim Liam Fox knows exactly what Adam
08:06Forrester can do he's the the B team captain and of course folks promoted up
08:11to running the first team at the moment after the sacking of Stephen Naismith
08:17here come Dino Mominsk looking to create for the first time it was Bonny Amian
08:25Ivory Coast midfielder just stumbling at the key moment
08:35yeah well obviously just going back to the fact that Liam Fox is in charge it's
08:40a great occasion for him he's obviously not being considered for the post full
08:46time but it means that the opportunity for Adam Forrester presents itself with
08:52Gerard Taylor being injured and and hopefully he can make an impact here and
08:57and perhaps whoever it is that comes into the club he can be in there you
09:01know thinking because you know previous to this Gerard Taylor was a first choice
09:06but and Oyegoke who was brought in from from Brentford in the summer he is
09:13you know the backup he's he's clearly been decided that Adam Forrester is the
09:19one that's going to get the nod ahead of him and and from a youth team
09:24perspective that's that's very positive but it does pose questions about you
09:30know the recruitment as much as the chief executive is talking about there's
09:34no criticism of the recruitment in the summer not so much about the players
09:37that were brought in for me and the guys were touching on this before the game
09:41it's more about the omissions and the areas of the park that they didn't go and
09:44recruit no second strike at the backup Lauren Shanklin no pace in the wide
09:49areas these are the defining problems in the in the window for me
09:55it's a big talking point at the moment for Hearts fans as they wait and wonder

11:40early on a composure there though from Blair Spital in the middle of the park
11:46all coming in and a bit of pressure good close control and laying it off yeah a
11:51little bit nervous there when Cai Rolls is shielding the ball and ushering it
11:57back to the goalkeeper I did wonder whether he was just going to try and
11:59nod it back to begin with and then it gets into that position where it's too
12:03close to do anything and is he going to be strong enough to hold the attacker
12:09off. A pukov to Sir Sivko and left back Rai Lopez Brazilian good pressure from
12:22heart yeah not like that Rob it's done in a fashion where it actually looks
12:27like it's you know done in tandem it's not players just running and alone
12:35they're doing it collectively Lauren Shanklin initially putting Lopukov
12:40under pressure Rai Lopez then the left back being under serious pressure
12:45here's that nervy moment as Craig Gordon came out to collect just about
12:54it's difficult to gauge the quality of what hearts are up against here tonight
13:08in Azerbaijan but certainly they've had a couple of good European results
13:13despite losing against top opposition the likes of Ludo Goretz and Anderlecht
13:19just beaten narrowly by those two teams

14:15I'll tell you what Rob that is a very good opportunity obviously blistering
14:21pace is not something that Barry Mackay has but he's in a position there on edge
14:25of the box 1v1 and he's got the better of the defender and you just wonder
14:30whether he would have been able to take a touch get further into the box hold
14:35the defender often and have a bit more of a controlled finish than rather than
14:39try to have the volley there it's still technically a very good player and you
14:44would be expecting to see him hitting the target there certainly well picked
14:48out by Shanklin yeah he was and I've got to say so far ten minutes in
14:53hearts look for me in a system that looks like it's it's suiting them so
14:59much more than than what we've seen it many times this season a lot made
15:04about obviously flitting between a back three and a back four and and not really
15:09looking overly comfortable so far pressing collectively winning that ball
15:14higher at the park but also just a few bits of interchange amongst the players
15:17that that looks like clearly been worked on in training and they certainly look
15:23like they're a lot more comfortable
15:29you see here the fullback Forrester just stepping in field there as well it
15:35doesn't happen by chance something that's been worked on just trying to
15:39open up that line into the wide man like there as well
15:43Baramakai getting on the ball and Penrith being further up the park on the
15:48inside
15:53but when Baramakai picks that ball up he's got to go and make something
15:56happen he's in this team for the technical ability and the quality he's
16:00got on the ball but he can't play the game standing still he needs to bring
16:05energy to the game I feel when Baramakai a game drifts on by is when he just
16:10tries to play like testimonial football everyone's too static he needs to bring
16:15a bit energy to his game as well this is 38 year old Alexander Sashivko
16:22it's a ninth European tie of the season for Dinamo Minsk hearts of course losing
16:29to Victoria Pilsen in their bid to get into the Europa group stages
16:38the challenge from the Academy graduate Forrester good to see the Swedish
16:49referee deciding that likewise it was a good challenge you can see Ray Lopez
16:57just diving up in the air making it look like he's being clattered and quite
17:04often you would see somebody being punished for modern football but he's
17:08low he wins the ball doesn't seem to me to be you know falling through on the
17:14attacker so credit to the referee because I think he's called that one spot on
17:21I was just saying Michael how difficult it is to gauge the quality of Dinamo Minsk and
17:26those results against Anderlecht and Ludegarets but against that they just
17:30scraped through against Lincoln Red Imps
17:32I mean you're absolutely spot on
17:34that it's difficult to assess it because the one thing that's clear in all is
17:39that there wasn't much in any of the games so against the better opposition
17:43that's not like they've been you know stuffed and thoroughly turned over the
17:48games have been tight but against Lincoln Red Imps it was a it was a tight one as well
17:54it's really the odd goal in all of these games really that has been in decisive
18:01so as much as you know the opening stages you're looking you think to
18:04yourself hearts look fairly comfortable and they're away from home in Europe you
18:10know that there's still going to be a difficult task to come away with a
18:13positive result be that three points or I would imagine the way things have gone
18:18this season for hearts they would snap your hand off to take a point away from
18:22home yeah getting something out of the game would definitely be a step forward

19:07you know there comes a point as well though for them for the players
19:10themselves it's obviously been very difficult disappointing confidence is
19:15low but there has to be a real sense of professional pride as well they need to
19:20start putting performances in the manager has gone and as much as the you
19:25know disappointed or perhaps some of them are relieved that all goes to one
19:31side need to focus on actually performing to their ability because they
19:36haven't done that so far this campaign there's a lot of quality in the
19:41heart side as much as my concern is that it's imbalanced and whoever it is that
19:46comes in needs to try and readdress that they've got a wonderful opportunity
19:51when you look at this a Conference League the European campaign of making a
19:56fist of it and and perhaps try to get through the playoffs as well

20:34he's somebody that makes such a big difference for Hearts well Benny
20:37Beningame in the middle of the park just that calmness apart from anything else

20:49that man at the back as well Frankie Kent talk about recruitment
20:54he had obviously the chief executive before talking about over the last few
20:57years they feel that they've done relatively well Frankie Kent has
21:01definitely been a good addition to the side
21:20Straight defeat spelled the end for Stephen Naismith
21:29who will be the replacement what is the style of manager Hearts are after all
21:35sorts of questions to be answered
21:49well it's a time where you know there's a lot of good things going on at Hearts
21:55and they're in a good position in terms of obviously competing in the Conference
21:59League as I've mentioned already they've got a great chance here but the club is
22:04a lot of crossroads here as well with regard to what direction they're going
22:07to go in a lot of things off the park it seems like they've got in place
22:11Shacklund takes the shot on just for a moment you wonder whether that was the
22:16first serious threat on goal
22:21it just sat up quite nicely for launch that one there but disappointing he
22:26wasn't able to get anywhere near the target but I was just saying Rob that
22:32they're going down a different route is what Andrew McKinley has said and time
22:38will tell I think it's a it's a big risk I think of course you you look to
22:43utilise any modern technology analytics by all means I think the club should be
22:48applauded at looking at these these modern technologies to use but
22:54certainly for me at this point I think to myself Hearts since the the club was
23:03taken out of administration with Ann Budge I don't think they've ever made what
23:08you would regard as a safe bet as a manager and you think about Robbie
23:13Nielsen originally going in very young and inexperienced but did well was
23:17replaced by Catherall which was taking a different route didn't work Craig
23:22Levine poor appointment as well Stendhal taking a different route very
23:28poor appointment then Robbie Nielsen came back in and steadied the ship a
23:33little bit Stephen Naismith was a what you would
23:36class as a risk as well now I think the club are in a position where they
23:40actually need to go and get a safe pair of hands for a couple of years to try
23:44and steady the ship there's a man sitting to Ibrox commentating on this
23:49game tonight who I think this looks as if he's being ruled out but I would be
23:52looking to go and speak to him and but the club are you know I prepared they
23:58aren't interested in that and they're going down a different route hopefully
24:02it works out but certainly for me I'd be going and speaking to Derek McInnes
24:05at least to try and see if it was something he'd be interested in John
24:11McGlynn throw him in the mix as well not to say that I would definitely be
24:15giving him the job but I think these guys are worth talking to because I
24:18think they are doing good stellar work
24:25but goes Roy Lopez to hook it clear for the home team

24:45Devlin you know I'm just finishing up that Rob as well of course you need to
24:51use the analytics to find out who else could be out there but I don't think you
24:55rule the local guys out either. Roy Lopez with the cutback and Stephen
25:03Alfred has the opening goal and 20 minutes in struggling hearts go behind

25:15well what a terrible situation for hearts to find himself in after being
25:26fairly comfortable for the first 20 minutes or so the first moment of note
25:31from Dynamo Minsk he sliced open the hearts defense
25:37you know for me this highlights the importance of getting to the byline it's
25:46not a overly complicated attack you try and get to that byline the cutback for
25:55the striker Alfred and all of a sudden the ball ends up in the back of the net
26:07once you get to that byline you start cutting balls back it becomes such a
26:11more difficult task for the defenders because they're having to change their
26:15angles not everything in front of them I'm gonna face their own goal balls
26:19getting cut back they're having to turn and things are happening so quickly it's
26:24a good smart finish from from Alfred there sweeps in his left foot at the far
26:28corner Craig Gordon's got no chance there but
26:32it's a poor goal for hearts to lose and it's gonna be a big test of what
26:36they've got about them now Michael of course as we've already touched on the
26:40fact that the confidence is so low

26:58Lopez picking out Alfred just his third goal of the season he's not exactly
27:05prolific but he's tucked that away pretty effectively sweeping it past

27:14you see that there though that's the point that you look at Frankie Kent the
27:19ball's going to the byline he feels like he's his goal side in a good enough
27:22position but within a split second the balls cut back he's having to change and
27:26turn his angle and credit to Alfred he's swept in first time and at the far
27:31corner good feet from Blair Spital just couldn't get his pass away his hearts
27:43look to respond to the nightmare start in Azerbaijan
27:51I just think that you don't want to be rushing and making you don't want to be
28:04rushing and making a you know appointments but equally it is such a
28:09huge call for for hearts this one and then the Conference League is up and
28:14running they've got an interim manager in charge it's far from ideal
28:17lovely pass from Alan Forrest to Blair Spital and it was Vladislav Kalinin
28:25who managed to get that away it's actually been a decent response to
28:32hearts from going behind in the game you know not dissimilar to what we just saw
28:38at the other end good smart run on the inside channel and behind the defense
28:42just the cut back it wasn't in a position where Shankman could get the
28:47strike away first thing given away by Alan Forrest goal scorer Alfred skipping
29:00clear again and this looking promising for the home team couldn't quite find

37:11another dangerous ball to get put in, three corners in quick succession for Harps

37:34well you've got to say that the delivery for Bari Mikay was terrible and it gave
37:40Dynamo Minsk a great opportunity to counter-attack, fortunately for Harps,
37:45turnover happened quickly and they're on their bike going forward again and
37:49Bari Mikay, he didn't venture too far back and he was still up in the attack
38:03back it goes to Craig Gordon, 25 European appearances clocked up tonight
38:16and of course back in the Scotland squad again Craig Gordon
38:20wondered if it was all going to end at 75 caps for him, quite an incredible career that just continues to

38:31and he's there on merit Rob, back in the Scotland squad, he's there on merit, he found out when he
38:38was re-added to the Scotland players group chat that was the the clue that he was going to be
38:43named in the squad for these games upcoming against Croatia and Portugal, you're back in the gang

39:47and we're just about into the last 10 minutes of the first half
39:51you know these next couple of games obviously here tonight
39:59in Azerbaijan and then straight to Aberdeen for the game of Petrograd,
40:03there are two massive games before the national break, Laurence Shankland
40:11and Adam Forrester's cross set behind by Sashivko for yet another hearts corner kick
40:19just you know looking at this game here and looking at this incident I don't think there's
40:24any question Sashivko, he's got his arms behind his back but you know you want to try and get
40:29some momentum into this season, Dinamo Minsk, this is not a European heavyweight that Hearts are up
40:36against here, going to Petrograd is not going to be easy and then you'd expect a manager would
40:41be in the door at that point, I've spoken about the Scottish guys that mentioned it's not going
40:47to be them, if I'm going to look outside the box and I've spoken about this before, I think
40:53Malmo manager Riedstrom is somebody that is inventive, thinks outside and Knudsen at
40:58Bodo Glimt as well, these are two guys that worth trying to explore, James Penrice with the
41:05delivery this time and there's your equalizer
41:08it's an own goal and it's the captain Sergei Politevich who heads in for 1-1
41:24well that's positive, massively positive, doesn't matter who it is that puts the ball
41:29in the back of the net for Hearts, getting themselves back level here
41:34hugely important, before halftime as well, as you said it looks like it's Politevich, the captain
41:41who's come back into the side here, the only change from the weekend and it is, I mean that's a
41:45terrible, terrible goal, he's looking at the teammate in front of him and suggesting that he's
41:52suggesting that he's, he's not full sight of it, Kelingen, midfielder just in front of him,
42:04he's suggesting that that's what sort of distracted him but big centre half, free header himself,
42:11that is a terrible goal for Dynamo Minsk to concede for Hearts, doesn't matter it's 1-1
42:17before halftime, that's a huge, huge slice of a good fortune there for Hearts that they've got to
42:22try and utilize and build on, yeah that can give them a massive lift, he's got it horribly wrong
42:28as the skipper but it's so important you feel that Hearts have leveled this up ahead of halftime
42:39and still time before the interval for Hearts to turn this tie on its head

42:59get the feeling Adam Forrester is settling into the game, it's a pretty daunting prospect
43:07for him, I was just gonna say you look at him physically as well he looks like a good size and
43:12on the whole, it's been not a bad game so far for the youngster, it's also adjusting
43:20to this atmosphere, I mean for all of us it's a little bit strange to be operating without a crowd
43:30so
43:39Lapukov, the goalkeeper, swings it out wide and Hearts can start to look upon the positives here
43:46so far, it's not as if it's been a glittering performance but they're well on the ascendancy
43:52in terms of the possession, they've had more passes, have had more attempts at goal,
43:59they've had more corners, all these things that would suggest they've been the team on top but
44:05most importantly they've got themselves level in the scoreline here and it's
44:10it's something that they can start to build from
